I wonder how much of the problem is play calling? We're generally pretty good in the first half and Shanahan is developing a reputation for outsmarting himself in the fourth quarter and going away from what's been working the first three. It's possible Trey Lance will be a huge upgrade but it's also possible he's not and the same problems persist. It would be nice if we could at least threaten deep field plays though which is presumably why we traded up to get a new QB.

I don't know. There have been games where the running game wasn't that great early/before halftime and then they finally start running some better plays to get more yards on the ground. It's almost like sometimes he's using a reduced/simplified playbook with the run game until that doesn't work and then breaks out the good stuff? Strange.
