Next GM?

I saw a poll on who you want for the next Coach. Anybody have any ideas on who they think the next GM of the Kings should be? Obviously with this being the last year of Petrie's contract he will be replaced. My choice would be Thunder vice president and assistant general manager Troy Weaver. He passed on the Jazz GM job though, so I'm not sure he would come. $$$ may talk though.

I want .Petrie. I've always liked him and still do.

I liked him for a while but this roster that he's put together is not working. I think he's good at judging talent and has definately found his share of gems. As far as hiring coaches, he hired Adelman and then a ton of misses. As far as team chemistry and finding a group that feeds off each other (not since Adelman was the coach). Since then it's been pretty much a disaster. This year's lineup, while talented is not balanced at all.

so musselman who's powerpoint wowed the magoofs, theuss and westfail were all petrie's moves? dude had to pull some houdini crap with the budget he's been given. i believe westfail was given the lowest salary for a headcoach in the league. what top flight coach would come here for table scrap salary?

I love all the excuses everyone gives Petrie. The maloofs have had his hands tied behind his back for the last how many years? At some point he has to be accountable too. I can't stand the Maloofs but there are plenty of non-top flight coaches that have had much more success than the clowns petrie has hired since Adelman. Of course we have the biggest clown of all right now in Keith Smart, who got an extension last year thanks to Petrie, um er, I mean the Maloofs.

The thing is we really don't know just how much his hands were tied behind his back by the Malgoofs. GP has always been very private and tight lipped about everything. He showed that he can make all the right moves 10 years ago when the Magoofs had money and let him spend. If we get owners who let him do his job with a good budget to work with then I think he can be one of the best GM's in the league.

It's time for a fresh start. No ties to the previous regime.

Well, except for a few players.

Honestly, I like Petrie fine but I'd lean towards bringing someone new in. I'm hoping more money is invested in the front office for scouting/analytics/etc. Petrie might be able to adapt to that and flourish with better support, but I think I'd rather risk it on somebody else.

Dgeoff Petrie, Unchained

Seriously, hard to judge him with his hands tied for the last couple of years. I'd at least let him groom a new GM like the Warriors did with Riley and Myers. Let GP stay on as scouting director if he wants.

Petrie's greatest successes were hiring Adelman, trading for C-webb, drafting Peja, signing Vlade Divac, and trading for Mike Bibby. Guys, that ship sailed a long time ago. I know it's easy to blame the Maloofs for Petrie's failures. But what made that team great was the chemistry not $$$. Those guys played well together and were full of leaders and guys that knew their role. What we've had here lately is a bunch of stat guys and no leaders except maybe IT which says a lot.

Were I new owners I would look long and hard and Petrie and if he wants the job have him make an accounting of himself over the past few years. O I just don't see any experienced GM's out there looking for work so a smart coach/ex-coach will likely be the best bet.

oh, who was planning on hiring a WNBA coach? defense wins championships which is why we canned adelman?? don't overlook all the bs that has happened since the magoofs have their hand in making team personnel decisions.

We have a WNBA coach right now. And a damn good one.

whether his hands were tied or not, this unbalanced mess of a roster was Geoff Petrie's doing. he was the one filling up on undersized one-dimensional chuckers, he was the one constantly failing to recognise that team-chemistry would be a disaster with having all those guys around, he was the one who didn't put any real complimentary talent around the two potential stars that fell into his lap. the only reason that this last trade looks good right is that it uncluttered some of the mess Petrie created before and I'm still not calling it a win. Robinson might still turn out to be the best player changing teams in it.

That might be his only hope of keeping a coaching job in Sacramento! ;)

As for GM, with the ownership group we have assembled (pending of course us keeping the team) I would be compiling a long list of PROVEN GMs around the league, ranking them 1-10 and starting my headhunting from the top of the list. First call made is to R.C. Buford and if he says no, work my way down the list.

I would be willing to give Petrie an interview for the job. See if he can convince "me" that he didn't really believe in the roster he put together.

it would be interesting to hear what GPs vision is for the team and if he really does have a view as to how this should be constructed or if our past success was due to Adeleman and luck.

Not sure who I want but along with a new Gm, we need a larger scouting department and a commitment to player development.
