New Plan Could be Gamechanger for Sacramento Kings

Bummer. I guess Crandall's claim that the money was in place was bogus. I guess now we start hoping and praying that the BOG rejects their application.

While I doubt the BOG will reject the move, obviously there is still a possibility.

I think the Maloofs really made up their minds a while ago already. Most likely the weeks before they talked to KJ. They are just waiting for the season to end and present to the BOG. From the reaction they get at the meeting, they will know if they will get it approved or not. Thats why there is 3 days after the meetings for them to make that decision. If they actually file, they will get approved. I just don't think they would file if there is a chance for them to get rejected.

I still can't believe they're gonna take this deal. It's only decent in the best case scenario (arguable whether it's even much of an improvement from their present situation) and a disaster in the worst case scenario. With the current state of things and so much effort going into it, they'd almost surely get an arena built here if they'd just stick it out a few more years. Then they'd be in a best case scenario, new arena in a market they have all to themselves. Could they really be that shortsighted that they'd go chase a pie in the sky in Anaheim rather than cooperate with a city that's doing everything in its power to keep them here? Or is it just that they're going broke fast and are in search of a quick financial bandage? Either way, it really sucks for Sacramento. A more level headed owner with some foresight wouldn't be jumping ship like this for a deal like Anaheim.

So the financing isn't in place, which means it was never in place, which means Crandell was making s*** up from the beginning, and once again leading fans in the wrong direction and providing false hope based on nothing.

God Damnit! Crandell should be fired for this! How many times did he say the funding was in place? That's why we were all hopeful. Turns out it was a big f****** lie.

What pIssed me off from the beginning of this episode is that this just makes everybody involved look bad for no reason. Jim Crandell had really no regard for consequences when he stirred up this non-story. It is a old idea, it did not have Maloof support or interest, and it did not have funding. Renovating Arco has been discussed and dismissed with finality in the past. For someone to waste the Maloof's time and the Sacramento fans emotional energy on this was just so reckless - and this is at the core of why I think so poorly of Jim Crandell. He is just a reckless narcissist. His goal was to be at the center of some buzz... that's IT... and he is smirking at all the people who had not learned not to trust him yet ... just a real classic douche.

As soon as I realized that the 'plan' was most likely to renovate the current arena, I knew we were doomed. Even if the funding was in place, the current arena was written off years ago in their eyes...

Well put. Not as obscene as I would have liked but it will do.

Anybody up for revenge? This deserves something.

Brac-o-matic hits the crucial item.

I'm too pissed at The Maloofs to even worry about what Crandell did. It's possible he was led to believe the money was in place. I don't really blame him for breaking the story like he did. He may have been led to believe that it was something the Maloofs would go for.

Crandell is not the problem. I personally would not have gone with what he was given. It was never going to fly to renovate the building under any circumstances. But at least someone was trying. The problem is our city leaders failed us over the years and continue to fail today. It's on them, not us.

I've been as hard on the Maloofs as anybody, but they didn't do anything wrong here - which is what makes Crandell SUCH a turd. The Maloofs have said no to renovating Arco for a long time now, in no uncertain terms, and there was NO basis to believe it would fly now. For once, and I can hardly believe I'm saying this, I empathize with the Maloofs and I bet they are pissed to be backed into the corner of 'rejecting' a proposal that was never meaningfully in play in the first place.

Didn't Stern also say renovating wasn't even a possibility in the past?

I'm pissed at them because they're walking out on the mayor, the city, and the fans for a half *** deal in Anaheim, not that they didn't go for a renovation plan. As far as I know, the NBA wouldn't even approve a renovation so i understand that's out of their hands. I just can't believe any group would think a renovation plan had a chance when it's been common knowledge for sometime that they said they weren't interested in renovation.

I think there should be an anti-Crandell message in the Bee ad we're all paying for. Get it out there, and let everyone see it. What a low life, sausage sucking, female dog.

I know this is a family message board, but I hope Crandell dies a long, slow death.

Don't shoot the messenger. Blame the clowns who gave this "plan" to Crandall in the first place. It's not like he made this **** up.

They had the Ducks winning a Stanley Cup and they couldn't even sell that out lol..
All the games were sold out. I couldn't get in and watched them at the Yard House at the Irvine Spectrum. Granted, not everybody in the place cared about it, so the points about the fan base are valid. But I wanted to correct the record regarding the 2007 SCF.

And I felt lucky to buy a ticket to a first round playoff game against the Jazz that entitled me to stand in a painted square on the upper concourse. Would do it again in a heartbeat too.
But yeah I'm happy Anaheim won one for the Gipper in a Stanley Cup Championship game and filled the building.

The season they won they had like 20 sellouts during the regular season and were middle of the pack attendance wise. I'm not talking about the playoffs. Any team (even timbucktu) should sell out a playoff game.

The year following they had a buttload of sellouts, but then it's decreased since then and now they are near the bottom of the league in attendance again even though they are a playoff team.. That was NEVER the Kings case. Every year we were in the playoffs we had a whole year of sellouts. Anaheim is not going to be kind to the Kings.. .

Cosigned. I dont see how you can be that angry at Crandell. He ran with the story they gave him, and to be fair we still don't know exactly what the plan was.
Although I think the true dumb asses are the citizens of Sacramento, here'a little reporting 101. If you have a source that can be named, run it. If you have an anonymous source double check the info. Get another source even if it is anonymous. How do we know the source isn't Crandell? That's why real reporters are not sloppy. They want to be credible. He CAN be blamed for that. I think he should be fired although this seems status quo for anything with the Fox brand on it. Just remember that Fox is for entertainment and not for information.

This is what I said on Thursday and Friday morning, and I was ripped for being negative for the sake of being negative.

We don’t have to speculate why he did it. Crandell has admitted on air for engaging in "activist journalism” on this story to improve the mood in town.

He ran with 1/4 a story, that he did not vet or fact check. Moreover, he vaguely exaggerated two “talking points” without any supporting facts, and falsely a third that was completely false. The funding was NOT in place, which the purported development got everybody excited.

A fifth grader could have determined with some basic follow up questions, that they group didn’t have funding “in place.” Like, how much funding and where did you get it from. Also, anybody who’s followed this story for a distance would know that “the Maloofs would NOT be interested” in a remodel.

Crandell just lost all credibility on this issue. Carmichael Dave also gets a big black mark for the 100% true supporting tweet.
