New Kings fan here

Hello.

I've decided that the Kings are the new team I'm gonna root for. Yes, I'm a bandwagon fan. I'll get that out of the way in my first post.

I'm a native NY'er who decided to stop rooting for the Knicks in the summer of 2010 because of my issues with their ownership and the again convoluted overall team direction, watching them hold and squander all the big-market advantages is just simply not my style. I much prefer to root for a team like the Kings, and watch a proper re-build. I was rooting for another Western conference team the last bunch of years, that ran it's course as well. I wish to watch another rose grow from the concrete and I'm pretty sure that's what the Kings are about to pull off in spectacular fashion in the coming years.

At first I was going to wait to see what happens in the draft and free agency, but with less than a month to go I'm already sure I'll like whoever's picked, this draft is super loaded, I'm sure there will be tons of talent on the board when they select at #34.

I am really hoping it's De'Aaron Fox at 5, I'm a Kentucky (and overall huge college basketball) fan and have followed him (and Skal) closely since HS.. De'Aaron Fox is the best left handed PG I've ever seen in HS, I've fo

Growing up I was always a huge Mitch Richmond fan too, and reading more about him since I'm certain he's way underrated, MJ agrees. Thanks for having me, can't wait to interact with a new fanbase and I'll be reading thru most of the recent threads shortly.

You'll notice I'm whats called a hardcore fan. I plan on watching most every game, summer league, all that. I keep a very close eye on the incoming prospects, The NBA draft is actually my favorite sporting event of the year.

I might point out that for one who is frustrated with the Knicks' ownership issues, you haven't jumped the bandwagon of a team widely regarded as being any better in that regard. You may be trading one vast and trunkless leg of stone for another!

Vivek is in a whole other league as James Dolan IMHO. He's self made. Dolan, on the other hand, is a spoiled rich kid who's seized control of his fathers riches.

There's a big difference in tactics too. The Kings are going to build thru the draft which is, by reasons explainable to me, what the Knicks have avoided doing at all costs for most of my life.
 
Err.... So to clean up the first post. (I'm either missing the option to edit the posts or there isn't one).

I had it looking nice. got an error then reloaded it and submitted an older, unedited part as the OP. Thats why the bit on De'Aaron Fox just cuts off.

To finish that; I've followed Fox for years, since his AAU days and well before Kentucky offered him a scholarship. I first saw him on Houston Hoops while checking out the then headliners of the squad, Kelly Oubre, Justise Winslow and UNC's Justin Jackson. There was also a probable lottery pick in the 2018 draft Robert Williams on that squad. It's my favorite AAU squad ever. (not that I'm some big follower of AAU ball)

I'm not a big win-now guy, thats a pitfall thats easy to obviate. Thats ignorant of the capacity of the threat presented by the Warriors IMO. Sometimes it's best to retreat for higher ground and prepare to fight for another day. Thats what I'm here for. Thats why I think the Cousins trade was the right thing to do. Especially if they can somehow land one of the top bigs in next years draft too, the issue will quickly change from lack of talent to 'how are we gonna pay all these players?'

FWIW - I'm a big-time Skal supporter, the way he was dragged thru the mud, even by Coach Cal who I love(It might have been best for Skal too in the long-run), to me, was way overkill, he was scapegoated.

It was absurd that he fell so far in the draft and the Kings were smart enough to pluck that low-hanging fruit, that's in-part why I'm here.

I remember reading about him in HS, ( His first HS in Memphis, before he was ranked #1, back when he was in the mid-teens) and they said he shot 87% from the FT stripe and took his teams technicals, I've been a fan since seeing that. If they get De'Aaron Fox too thats more than I could ever hope for, I'd love to watch these stories unfold in real-time, not just by watching the highlights.

To be fair, Vlade has drafted enough international players at this point that the bandwagon will always have at least a few dudes rooting for their countryman (plus, y'know, Vlade is an international basketgod).

I tend to think of those fans as something different than "bandwagon". And we won't even talk about Jimmermania.

I hope so. I'm about 98% sure this is the team I'm looking for. The final cut was the Suns, I really like a lot of their young talent and team direction too. I knew Devin booker was a great shooter watcing him at UK, I never could've imagined he'd be this good though so I don't really wanna piggy-back and then root for the team because of that.

I like Vlade and Vivek, I believe in the plan. We all know the video of everyone screaming Stauskas in the warroom, I truly hated that pick at the time. I do whole-heartedly believe though that lessons were learned and egregious mistakes like that won't happen again.

The chance at drafting Fox is really what I'm most excited about. Even if they miss-out a scenario like Isaac or Tatum at 5 and then Ntilikina at 10 works for me, I've seen Ntilikina play about 15 games..

I really like Malachai Richardson too, I was convinced he had 1st rd talent back when DX still had him int he 50-70 range in their freshman rankings. I thought he seemed to be of a similar talent-level as Malik Beasley from FSU, another 4-star recruit who was much more heralded at the time.

Needless to say there will be lots of stories for me to follow, which ultimately I why I like sports, the stories. I remember when Papagiannis was getting hated on by the HS recruiting services here too. His skillset is fascinating to me, I can't wait to thoroughly inspect his game vs NBA C's.

I'm in that boat, I'm that type of band-wagoner, certainly not a front-runner... More so from college/Kentucky, I follow the international draft prospects rather closely too. I watch the U16 U18 U19 tournaments and research and big-time prospects that hit the consensus radar. I love basketball, I'm a fan 365 days a year, the offseason is actually my favorite part. I fully believe in the saying "Championships are won in the offseason"

we've basically been building for the future and better days for the last decade. Things move slowly here, dont worry you're not at risk of us fliping this around to win now anytime soon. In any case whats another few building seasons when you've been spinning your wheels as a franchise for the last 10.

We have the pieces for the future but we have been here before. Retaining talent is our issue, we ship them off or let them go all for marginal returns or ill fitting pieces which keeps us rooted at the bottom.

My only wish is that the Kings make the playoffs before I die.
 
I'm still trying to work out if jumping from the Knicks to the Kings is a step up or not...:p

And I don't think I'd call you a bandwagon fan since the Kings are awful lately. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of reasons to hope around here, but the Kings haven't been good for more than a decade. Unless the bandwagon is self-hating glutton for punishment types I don't think there is one.

As far as being a bandwagon fan goes, all of us were bandwagon fans at one time (except for a couple of Rochester Royal fans). :p

If De'Aaron "The General" Fox is the pick at #5 I'm gonna buy the first jersey I've purchased in many years (since I'm a kid, now I'm 29) and I'll go to MSG or Barclays wearing it when the Kings are in town.

Born in Sac and will die in Sac so my fanhood has never been bandwagon. This is an interesting team, same for the front office, ownership, coaching staff, KHTK, The Bee and my many compatriots on this site. We miss Bricklayer and welcome you, another New Yorker. Go Kings!
 
Oh also I forgot to mention. I used to have this pair of C-Webb's. They weren't the ones with spinning rims on the side but they were comfy.

I'm actually excited to see Kosta Koufos too, as bizarre as that might sound. Ohio State had that run of 1st rd C's, with Oden, BJ Mullens and Koufos, and back then I had a sneaking suspicion that Kosta could end up better than Mullens, glad to see he's carved his niche as he's done. Solid player. I fully believe some other teams would've been better off going after him instead of overpaying for other bigs.
