New Arena Corporate Sponsor & Name

CAN SOMEONE TITLE THIS "idea of new arena corporate sponsor & name" please? Thanks!

We have seen a lot of possibilities on our wish list for a new arena corporate sponsor and arena name such as Comcast and Comcast Arena.

My wife and I were discussing the awful name of Power Balance Pavilion and she came up with a great idea.

Since the plans are to build the new arena downtown in the rail yards, why not talk to Amtrak and see if we can name it the Amtrak Arena? It is pretty close to our old beloved name of ARCO Arena.

It goes with the theme of the rail yards area and it just feels right. Plus they're well known across the country too.

What does everyone else think?

About Amtrak: As the nation's intercity passenger rail operator, Amtrak connects America in safer, greener and healthier ways. Last fiscal year (FY 2010), the railroad carried over 28.7 million passengers, making it the best year in the company's history. With 21,000 route miles in 46 states, the District of Columbia and three Canadian provinces, Amtrak operates more than 300 trains each day—at speeds up to 150 mph (241 kph) —to more than 500 destinations. Amtrak also is the partner of choice for state-supported corridor services in 15 states and for several commuter rail agencies. Visit Amtrak.com or call 800-USA-RAIL for schedules, fares and more information.

I'm not sure Amtrak buying arena naming rights is a great idea since it is government owned and I'm pretty sure loses money routinely. It would be fitting. Wells Fargo would be for some reason too, I guess the Stage Coach logo, but they already have rights to some smaller arena, at least I think it is. Not that one company can't sponsor two arenas, hello AAA/AAC NBA Finals!

Too bad Tower Records died. Intel would be nice.

Amtrak did sign a 3-year deal with Prudential Center in Nov. 2010.

According to their web site: "Branding of the Acela Club gives Amtrak exposure and a great opportunity to reach their target market, the northeast traveler," said Larry Rothstein, President of Source Communications."

Imagine a discount Amtrak ticket if you purchase a ticket to an event at Amtrack Arena. Folks can take the train from other cities instead of driving and it will drop you off very near by the arena.

I kind of doubt Tower ever had the cash flow to be a naming-rights level sponsor.

Intel would also be fantastic. As an additional note, when the developers/city council talk about what could potentially be done with the current Natomas land in the event of a new arena in the railyards, one of the ideas is that it could be used as a campus for a tech company like Intel. If Intel were to be interested in putting in a campus there, the two-birds-with-one-stone aspect would be intriguing.

Nice thoughts. But heck, if they get this built already, in my eyes they can get whatever corporate sponsor they want. Playtex Arena, Trojan Arena, Charmin Arena....nothing's off limits, as long as it gets done. :)

Well probably not but for the longest time they were a Sacramento company that had a presence in all the big cities. I do remember about 10 years ago going into the Tower in Boston on a work trip and having it sadly dawn on me as I rode up the escalator that it had become a Virgin Megastore during my absence. Not sure what it is now.

I feel like one of the last people around that love Amtrak and I would be thrilled to see them name the Sacramento arena after it. Afterall, that's sort of how I get to a Kings game. I hang out at my favorite eateries in the east bay, take BART to Richmond then hop over to the Richmond Amtrak platform and take the capitol corridor to Sacramento before getting ripped off by a cabbie on my way to ARCO although I've come around to just asking them if they can take me there for $20 and they usually say yes.

The problem is that Amtrak is federally funded and I just don't see the govt. pouring any good money into a sports facility and even if they do, I have to think there will be higher bids.

I'm also guessing that naming rights will play a role in getting this thing funded and since the govt. will probably get outbid, I'm not liking Amtrak's odds:(

If Amtrak sponsored a lounge or something that would be cool. But yeah I don't see them paying the big cost of naming rights. And it would probably cause national outrage by some annoying people.

I still think that Comcast may be our best option. I think the Comcast Railyard has a decent ring to it.

I think there's a few ideal possibilities for naming rights logically:

1. Comcast(best case scenario)
2. Metro PCS(yes, sounds funny, but they're big locally, and I'm sure have decent capital...hey, if AT&T and Verizon can have naming rights...)
3. Vision Service Plan(VSP)...respectable option
4. Sutter(healthcare/hospitals)
5. Wells Fargo(good local presence)
6. Bank of the West(great local presence)

I think all 6 of these are viable options and I think if you're looking to grow this thing locally, you have to look at all of these. All these companies have the $$$ to do a naming rights deal longterm...that would transcend to the new arena, as well. I think KJ should be present with the Maloofs to discuss this issue to make sure it's in the best interest of both parties, beings that the NEW arena will be owned by the city, and should have a naming sponsor that they choose.

Ooh...never thought about selling naming rights for the whole Railyard DISTRICT/NEIGHBORHOOD...hey, sounds pretty cool to me...would bring in BIG $$$, IMO! Now THAT is pretty innovative and progressive in thinking! Sounds like a Joe Serna-esqe idea...like when he got $250,000 for the city from Pepsi for signage during city council meetings...and he almost made a HUGE deal with Pepsi called 'Capital Spirit', before he passed away. That would have netted the city about $24 million(1999 dollar value) over the life of the deal...sure our local schools, police and firefighters could use that money now, eh? Unfortunately after he passed away, it never was brought up again...and was forgotten altogether by Heather Fargo.

Careful what you wish for. Clownfart.com Center just doesn't sound like it would attract the same kind of FA players that Intel Arena™ (With Intel Inside!) would.

Aerojet has to be a bigger option than all of those.

Aerojet is a leader in the development and manufacture of aerospace propulsion systems; precision tactical weapon systems; and armament systems, including warhead and munitions applications. Aerojet is the second leading provider in both the solid and liquid propulsion market areas, as well as the number one provider in the tactical segment area of solid propulsion.

They closely work with Nasa and the military and are based in Sacramento.

I think HP or Intel would make the most sense. They are probably the two biggest know names in the region as far as large employers go.

I doubt it will be a computer company sponsor, they aren't really big in the Sac valley, just Bay Area...not sure how many Apple employs in Laguna, but I know it isn't that many...or as many as they used to. I don't know of anything big, stadium/arena-wise that they really put $$$ into.

They may not be headquartered in sac, but they have large campuses. Unless we get they state to sponsor us or a hospital, its all we have locally with big money. Blue diamond? McDonalds has a large presence here as we'll. Wonder how much they would pay to let put the golden arches on top of the arena.

I kind of like the Blue Diamond idea...I guess you could say we'd officially gone nuts then if we plaster their name on the arena.

I like it. My family has Blue Diamond almond growers up north. Maybe I'd be able to use the corporate seats. You could shape the arena like a diamond, then it would just be called "The Blue Diamond."

Selfish AND clever. A unique combination of character traits. :)
