I got all carried away and told those nitpickers on sacbee to move out of Sacramento. My comment seems to have disappeared.
Maybe I should listen to VF21 and lower my blood pressure by not looking at their comments.
The sacbee forums have been a major cesspool since day 1. They'll allow all the naysayers to totally take over a conversation but if anyone steps up and challenges them, it's the challenger whose post disappears.
Let those people pick all the nits they like. They'll benefit from a new entertainment venue just like everyone else; they just need something to grouse about.
I'm so excited...
And the idea of a NEW State Fair, which hopefully will return to looking like an old-fashioned state fair and not like the current abomination of concrete, steel, etc. that was the "EXPO" theme when it was built, really makes me happy. I loved the OLD fairgrounds and have hated Cal Expo since the first day it was opened. I'll be very happy to see it gone.
I think major thanks have to go to Kevin Johnson in this, too, as he has been a breath of fresh air in the whole process. I hope they name a building after him, if for no other reason than to irritate Heather Fargo.
Okay, I know that last part was just mean-spirited, but I don't care.

Besides the bank in Australia putting in money, John Moah is saying that the Kings will pay 300,000,000 towards a new arena and sign a 30 year lease!!!! THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!

I checked out the comments on that sacbee article, and man, nothing will please some people. It's like why don't we all just stop using electricity and go back to candle light?
Public funding was the big hoo-ha issue, and that is (as far as we know right now) not a problem. And still, people find something to complain about. Guess what: just because you may not be a fan of the Kings does NOT mean there is no benefit to the city.

I only heard about the money about the maloofs through MIke Lamb. It was from the NBA press conference in support of the deal and details.

I'm hearing though on the radio it's confirmed. The Maloofs are putting up 300 mill to go with whatever the Australian bank is putting up.

It's integrated with a rail system, just like the new Arco would be.

Its a three team trade!
The railyards have always been my personal choice for the site of a new arena, it is very accessible via freeway, still close enough to downtown but not too close to create any major traffic problems.

The beauty here is that the state technically doesn't have to be involved in the process to get it off of the ground. The Cal Expo sale and movement can occur in it's own, separate time frame. The railyards can be prepared for construction now, and Natomas can be vacant and ready for the state whenever the state is ready.

But......if someone in the Legislature(especially someone in SoCal) hears that Cal Expo is involved in a land swap to help the Kings build a nice new arena don't you think they would raise a stink???

Of course, that's part of what they get paid to do: ask questions. The Cal Expo board (that consists of a former state governor and legislators) seems okay with it. And if they can turn a profit for the state in the sale there should be no problem. I need a lot more info before I continue to pretend it should all go off without a hitch though.
