That would actually give Bron what he wants though. For some reason he's always wanted a "real" PG. It's almost odd as to why.
CP3 isn't really any good anymore though. The Warriors looked worse every single time he was on the floor for them last season AND the Lakers still have Gabe Vincent on the books for the next two seasons to pretty much be the role playing low usage 3-and-D point guard that has been a staple of every single good team Lebron has ever been on.

The wild thing is that they could've had Mike Conley Jr when they did the Jazz trade last season but they flipped him to Minnesota for D-Lo instead, who is neither a pure point guard or particularly good at anything aside from being a rich man's Buddy Hield.

(On a completely different note, until I was looking over the Lakers salary chart to see how much longer they have Russell and Vincent on their roster, I had forgotten the Lakers had signed Vanderbilt to a 4-year, 48 million dollar extension before the season that looked good at the time but now looks terrible since it feels like he's just never going to play basketball again.)

saw that Victor made 1st team defense, I get it...he had a lot of blocks but I wonder, was he actually a good 1 v 1 defender?
I mean 4/5 of the first team all defense squad is big men with Bam being the only one of those who isn’t terrible when guarding anyone shorter than 6’10” so I dunno why you’re singling Wemby out here lol.

I'm just trying to determine whether he's actually a good defender or if he is just a really tall human who doesn't have to jump to block shots and as a result, gets all defense recognition

He’s still a rookie so it’s hard to tell and he’s just not physically strong enough in some situations but he’s definitely better against switches than Gobert or AD

The move is nothing more than a Rondo type where it's to placate Bron anyway. Will CP3 really help them? Probably not, but Bron will be happy and that's all that matters I guess lol.

We mock and make jokes, but the thing that needs to be remembered is that the Buss family is one of the few ownership groups in all of sports, and maybe the only one in the NBA, where their primary source of revenue is the team itself; they don't have any other businesses, just the lakers. So, whatever keeps the money coming in is probably the smart move for them to make, and whatever keeps LeBron in a lakers jersey keeps the money coming in.

Apropos of the above, thanks to an unexpected internet rabbit hole, TIL that the Great Western Forum was so named because of a naming rights deal. Not being a native of California, I was previously unaware of the existence of Great Western Bank.
Yes. When I was a child, though I must have known of Great Western Bank, I was completely unaware that it was a naming rights deal. I believe it was one of the first such, if not the very first.

It's hard for me to say whether it was a good naming rights deal or a bad one. The name "Great Western Forum" just straight up sounds like a kinda high-falutin' non-sponsored name for a building. So, in the one sense, it's extremely natural and everybody uses it reflexively, forever. But on the other hand, if you don't realize the connection, the advertisement doesn't really work.

According to Greg Lukenbill, Arco was the first. Not sure if that tracks but he says so.

Two-And-A-Half-Decade Kings Fan Whiffs On Easy Trivia Question About Franchise History, details at 11
I used to go to cotillion dances with his daughter and sat next to them at games when my mom had the good tickets. He was next-door neighbor to my first real girlfriend. Nice guy, but full of stories. If they are remotely true, Sacramento could have looked much different. I'm sure you saw it but I posted last year about a Sac Historical Society talk he gave last year.

Yes, I recall that post.

I guess that thing about dating two girls who were next-door neighbors didn't work out so well? ;)

Oh I never dated the daughter but I was really close to the girlfriend's step-sister before we got together, and everything came to a head the night of my Senior Ball. That's probably a story for a trip to G1C. lol

I'm sorry, did you say cotillion? What was it like living in California before it was acquired from Mexico?

In 1980s Sacramento, all the private middle schools had a combined school dance called cotillion. There was maybe one per season. But it was a huge deal and this all seemed very normal to me when I was 12 and 13 but I'm judging myself as I type this.

Utah basically got Collins for free from what I recall, did his value improve? Only thing of note from his season in my mind was that he got viciously dunked on by Anthony Edwards (and to be fair (1) I appreciate that he at least challenged the drive and (2) Edwards looked like he poked Collins in the face first).

What do the Kings offer? Barnes and Duarte?

His value did not improve. Barnes and Duarte would be the offer especially if we have to settle for a player who pushes Duarte down the depth chart in the draft, but I think we want something back in return. Pick swap our 13 for their 10 but Ainge would never do it.

Still I like this because he get 18 months to prove he isn't empty stats and if not you move him at the 2026 deadline as an expiring.
