SUNS HEAD COACH MIKE D’ANTONI: “It was a great game both ways. We played pretty well, but we couldn’t stop them in the third quarter. [Sacramento] got hot and Peja [Stojakovic] wasn’t missing anything. [Shareef Abdur] Rahim down low was a handful, but we figured it out in the fourth quarter. We made a great comeback again and our bench did a great job to get us back in the game. There were a couple things here and there, and a call here and there that just didn’t go our way. We had a chance to win in the end. I don’t know if we blew it or they won it, but probably a combination of the two.”
SUNS FORWARD SHAWN MARION (16 pts, 14 rebs): “I think, for the most part, we were neck-in-neck with them tonight. They came out shooting the ball and they shot the way they’ve been expecting to shoot — because they’ve been struggling from the field. For some reason they came in on fire tonight.”
SUNS CENTER KURT THOMAS (11 pts, 2 rebs): “We were battling for loose balls, and I just happened to come up with the foul called on me at the end. We just have to keep playing hard no matter what the situation is, and we can’t worry about how the referees call the game. We just hate to lose on a tough call that could have gone either way. We’re still playing hard, playing with a lot of confidence, and we’re in games — that’s the main thing. We just have to build on this home stretch, but we can’t let games slip away from us.
“We’re a young team, there are a lot of new faces on this team. We just have to learn from our mistakes. This was a tough game we should have won.”
SUNS GUARD STEVE NASH (18 pts, 13 asts): “There were some unfortunate breaks for us. We certainly didn’t get any calls, but I think the bottom line is that we showed some heart, fought back, and I thought the second unit was great again. We just didn’t play quite well enough to beat them tonight. I think part of that was that they haven’t played well at all yet this year and they were due. They’re a talented group of players and Shareef [Abdur-Rahim] got a little freedom in there, got his rhythm and obviously Peja [Stojakovic] was hot. So, when they have that inside-outside going — the rest of their guys are potent, too. They were kind of due, and at the same time we didn’t play well enough to win.”

“Leandro had an amazing game. He’s a big part of our team, and I think this is what we’ve kind of been waiting for. We’ve been patient and tried to see if we could make him play both guard positions. He’s so athletic he can play both positions.”
