AdelmanKINGS HEAD COACH RICK ADELMAN: “They’re a hard team. We really moved the ball well tonight. We still did not shoot as well as I think we can. They’re a hard team to guard. We knew they were going to make a run, they always do here. We were fortunate we made a couple stops we needed to get. Shareef made two good plays down the stretch to give us the lead. Our two big guys had 15 assists, that’s pretty good. Any win like this is huge. We just need to build off this and stay with it. I’m disappointed but not surprised that we struggled a little down the stretch. They’ve got a lot of flexibility with the line-up they throw out there. With Marion and (Boris) Diaw, they’re very athletic and they can take a lot of things away from you and switch a lot of things.”

BibbyKINGS GUARD MIKE BIBBY: “We started getting down big, but came back and hung in there. We got another tough game coming up on Tuesday. We got a good team coming in and we have to keep building. It was good Peja got hot in the third. We were scoring almost every time down the court and we were getting stops defensively. I told Bonzi we don’t want to come all this way and give this to them. We hung in there.”

StojakovicKINGS FORWARD PEJA STOJAKOVIC: “We still have a lot of things to work on. It was a great win for us to get over the hump and raise our confidence, but we still have to work on our game. We are still learning about each other. We still have to find out what our strengths are and how to finish games. We stuck together and may have gotten a little lucky at the end, but we’re going home finally and this is going to be a good month. We have to build on this and get better.”

That pic cracks me up. It has always looked to me like someone drew the moustache on Peja...

:)

SUNS HEAD COACH MIKE D’ANTONI: “It was a great game both ways. We played pretty well, but we couldn’t stop them in the third quarter. [Sacramento] got hot and Peja [Stojakovic] wasn’t missing anything. [Shareef Abdur] Rahim down low was a handful, but we figured it out in the fourth quarter. We made a great comeback again and our bench did a great job to get us back in the game. There were a couple things here and there, and a call here and there that just didn’t go our way. We had a chance to win in the end. I don’t know if we blew it or they won it, but probably a combination of the two.”

SUNS FORWARD SHAWN MARION (16 pts, 14 rebs): “I think, for the most part, we were neck-in-neck with them tonight. They came out shooting the ball and they shot the way they’ve been expecting to shoot — because they’ve been struggling from the field. For some reason they came in on fire tonight.”

kurt_thomas.jpg

SUNS CENTER KURT THOMAS (11 pts, 2 rebs): “We were battling for loose balls, and I just happened to come up with the foul called on me at the end. We just have to keep playing hard no matter what the situation is, and we can’t worry about how the referees call the game. We just hate to lose on a tough call that could have gone either way. We’re still playing hard, playing with a lot of confidence, and we’re in games — that’s the main thing. We just have to build on this home stretch, but we can’t let games slip away from us.

“We’re a young team, there are a lot of new faces on this team. We just have to learn from our mistakes. This was a tough game we should have won.”

SUNS GUARD STEVE NASH (18 pts, 13 asts): “There were some unfortunate breaks for us. We certainly didn’t get any calls, but I think the bottom line is that we showed some heart, fought back, and I thought the second unit was great again. We just didn’t play quite well enough to beat them tonight. I think part of that was that they haven’t played well at all yet this year and they were due. They’re a talented group of players and Shareef [Abdur-Rahim] got a little freedom in there, got his rhythm and obviously Peja [Stojakovic] was hot. So, when they have that inside-outside going — the rest of their guys are potent, too. They were kind of due, and at the same time we didn’t play well enough to win.”

(On Barbosa’s performance)
“Leandro had an amazing game. He’s a big part of our team, and I think this is what we’ve kind of been waiting for. We’ve been patient and tried to see if we could make him play both guard positions. He’s so athletic he can play both positions.”

Yes, for some strange reason Shawn. Couldn't have anything to do with your team's defense could it? ;)

Hey Bib, at what point was this? I mean, did you actually attend the same game I watched?

I wonder if there's another team easy to guard.

Bonzi, Shareef?

My favorite quote was from D'Antoni: "Rahim down low was a handful, but we figured it out in the fourth quarter."

Yeah, Mike. Good think you figured him out in that last minute.
