NBA approves sale!

Bibby10AZ

G-League
NBA owners met via conference call to “vote” on the sale this weekend and approved the purchase, the vote nothing but a formality but still a required task to complete the sale. The passed vote was the final requirement to transfer ownership from the Maloof family to the Ranadive group, who will now take over the struggling franchise.

Time to buy some more kings stuff.

EDIT: Added quote for clarification. - VF21

EDIT 2 - I edited the title of the thread as it now appears the story was based on a tweet that has since been removed. One of the problems with basing a story on a Twitter note. - VF21

When is the new arena is going to be constructed-2016?

According to Mark Friedman construction will not even begin until October 2014. Scheduled to be completed over 24 months, thus presumably opening for beginning of 2016-17 season. Why no shovels in the ground until over 18 months from now? Because it takes too fricking long in this state, this county, this city to get an EIR study done, signed off. Plus, huge section of downtown plaza has to be raised before the actual new arena can have its foundation laid and real work can begin.

IMO, it will be minor miracle if the new sports and entertainment facility is open for first regular season game in 2016.

Wow. Are we so shell-shocked as a fanbase that the pessimism has to start immediately after the best news in franchise history? There are going to be a lot of smart people with a lot of construction experience driving this project. Until evidence tells me otherwise, I'm going to assume that they can deliver on their timetable.

It's not about pessimism but realism. The project is not just about smart people with construction experience (like amazing Mark Freidman) but about government mandated and EVERYONE agrees way to slow EIR process in this state. State Sen. Steinberg says he's working on getting it sped up. That's great since he's in a powerful position as State Senate head to do something about it - but it's just words until something actually happens legislatively to make it happen way faster.

Geez, dude. You could wait a bit before allowing the cynicism to leak through. You're making Debbie Downer look like some kind of optimist.

No, it's pretty blatant pessimism. Saying you're being realistic is just an excuse.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand...

It is a great day for all Kings fans. The era of the Maloofs is over and the reign of Vivek Ranadive has begun. There is already a feeling among MOST of the Kings fans I know of optimism, hope and excitement. People are talking about the Kings again with a positive outlook. It's nice.

I can truly believe what I've said for a long time... Once, now and FOREVER - GO KINGS!!!!!

this all still feels surreal to me. team staying, Maloofs gone, Owners with $$$ to spend, new downtown arena.... like its too good to be true, only this time it is true

Point of Clarification on Mayor's tweet that Vivek is "confirmed". He's confirmed to appear in person @ the Kings rally on Thursday.

Some thought "confirmed" meant as an owner by the NBA BOG. That will happen later this week.

Did you check the article listed in the OP? It says:

Actually...

That article is on a website I've never even heard of, and it based the entire story on a Brian Windhorst tweet that has now been deleted. It appears that Windhorst misinterpreted a KJ tweet as pointed out by Brian May.

So it looks like the conference call hasn't happened yet.

Oops. I'll adjust the thread title... ;)

Look at it this way, kings fans have until the 16-17 season to finally see a game at Arco (sleep train) arena! I'm actually excited about that as I've only been able to see the kings play in LA (clippers).

That timeline is very doable. There is a lot of padding on both the October 2014 and the 2016 dates. There are too many VERY wealthy and/or powerful people involved in this for it to not get done. Unless they run into an ancient burial ground under DTP, or some endangered species habitat, this gets done.

You be a funny person, Jose!

It's just excitement to get this thing going. And CA is known for hamstringing (and sometimes killing) projects with time consuming EIR's.
I was wondering how the 49ers got their stadium going so quick. They are working at a feverish pace. From the time Santa Clara approved the stadium to the golden shovels breaking ground it hasn't seemed like they've been at it for very long.

I wanna see our stadium go up just as quick. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

Kings owner George Maloof disputes that team has been sold, suggests that valuation may have changed as trees in the parking lot have come into bloom.
