it means the had soft centers Domas could bully. As things stand right now we struggle to be a play in team.
Carter is not a huge defensive upgrade over Davion. That’s just silly.
Pels are not the same anymore. They don't even have a center.
Val held his own against Sabonis and Nance Jr. was surprisingly good against us. They lost Nanji Marshall and Dyson Daniels. That is 4 of their top 9 in mins played last year.

Chet and the Dallas C's. Absolutely, he punked them. Everyone else are grown ass men and in Zu, AD and Gobert's case, among the better defensive players in basketball

And also, now the Pels are more guard oriented. The Kings have far more answers for guard dominated teams next season with Keon and Carter.

Davion got stuck guarding 1's. He had incredible PoA defense, but he struggled when he got put into a switch. Carters going to be a switchable menace that brings as good of POA defense. Thus, huge defensive upgrade

Memphis is going to be very long. OKC is long and Domas won’t hammer Hartenstein like he did Chet. Pels added another long 2 way player in Murray that fits well with CJ.

Presti set the stage for what OKC is now in his very FIRST season as the GM for the Thunder.
His very first draft he took Kevin Durant and traded Ray Allen for #5 to draft Jeff Green. Maybe more importantly, he signed-and-traded Rashard Lewis for a pick that would become Serge Ibaka along with using his own pick to take Westbrook the next season. The next year he drafted James Harden. After that he was a bit hit or miss (Cole Aldrich at #11 in 2010, Reggie Jackson at #24 in 2011, Jeremy Lamb at #12 in 2012 and Steven Adams at #12 plus Andre Roberson at #26 in 2013) but that early string of monster hits is really what set everything in motion.
Those guys became superstars and (other than KD who left as a FA) gave Presti the assets to make subsequent trades and accumulate all those picks the first time. Then it was just rinse and repeat.
But it wasn't JUST embracing the tank. It was his huge run of success in the draft that gave them all the pieces they needed to truly tank and accumulate assets.
Which is why I don't love all these proposed deals to trade away years of draft picks. Drafting well is one of the only sure ways for a small market team to compete long term.

clearly generalization. But yes Gobert, AD and Chet, Dallas are all as soft as Charmin.

Memphis is starting a rookie at center and JJJ was consistently getting taken to the woodshed by Domas last season. The Pels currently don’t have a center. Denver lost all of its depth and is currently trying to figure out how to get Russ Westbrook. Dallas made a bunch of lateral moves. Aside from OKC none of the other teams in the west have made any moves to get clearly better than they were last year.

Right. Presti the rebuilding GM had the luxury of working with the assets built by… Sam Presti.
Monte, of course, did not have a similar luxury. Nor was he hired with any sort of leeway for a full rebuild, I’d imagine, given the playoff drought the franchise had been through at the time.

I would agree except his versatility is mainly 1-2 and our best defender is already shutting down 2’s. I don’t buy for a second he can slow down most 3’s and no chance on longer ones.
Presti has a truly cheap owner and was forced a bit, kudos to him for basically perfecting the process before and after "the process". If we want to emulate that it would have been trading Domas instead of extending him last year and then trading Fox right now.
And maybe if we hadn't spent two decades mired in dog poop that would have been an option. Weird that a lot of us preaching patience with this core were full on tank commanders circa 2008. Now I'll just happily settle for being a 2nd round contender with a fringe shot year after year.
I bet Presti winds up making a lot of tough choices down the road and starts all over again. Maybe they actually win one though.

Plus Davion is awful at creating turnovers, his deflections are laughable. His main ability is to stay in front of defenders. Devin should be much better in that regard
Fontecchio is a fun name I forgot about. He was great in that last stint with DET, elite spacer with good size.

Wouldn't mind seeing Monte work some type of sign and trade for Okoro.
I like the idea of a Huerter-Okoro swap.
From CLE perspective, they get a starting caliber player on a 2 year deal, that doesn't murk up their long-term cap sheet. And they desperately still need shooting an off-ball spacing, even with their acquisiton of Strus last year. They're sort of on a 2-year timeline here before Mitchell/JA/Mobley all kick in with massive raises. Huerter just stylistically fits well with that grouping.
For the Kings, they get a tough wing defender, that's still just 23. He's honestly been pretty dang consistent as a shooter the last 3 years and he'll give you a little bit of playmaking too. Very much fits the mold of a Keon/Devin Carter type that really gets after it defensively, knows his role on offense.
There are still some helpful names on that list, especially at SF.
Just reading a SI article saying Kings exploring a trade with Brooklyn for Cam Johnson. He’s on a 4 year 94 mil contract. I guess if we’re striking out in free agency that’s an option, assuming Barnes, Huerter, pick considerations can get it done.
