Musselman press conference - Oct. 22

I did not see any player interviews. My video stream was just Muss. Petrie and Maloofs. What did Bibby have to say?
I didn't see one either BUT when I watched the Live News10 broadcast (which was way better quality btw) someone made mention that it was Bibby's idea to bring the team up and stand behind the coach. I think it was made off camera but I heard it.

Oh there is a Bibby interview on News10.... http://news10.net/storyfull2.aspx?storyid=20862

On the right under Video.

And yeah that was a good interview by Mike.
Definitely one of the better interviews of Mike's I've seen. I thought he handled it very well.

I am glad to see the team standing behind Musselman. I am sure that many of the players have at one point or another gotten behind the wheel when they were close to/at/over the legal limit. It doesn't make it right, by any means, but it does mean that they probably understand the situation and accept it for what its worth. While he made a serious judgement in error, it is very different than if he had beat his wife, or raped or killed someone.

That said, he got lucky. Thank God there wasn't an accident with someone innocent injured or killed. That would be a whole different story, and unfortunately with drinking and driving it's not uncommon.

Coming from a person who was put in a coma and had my entire right hip shattered in an auto accident(as a passenger), among other injuries I suffered...I am very thankful that there was no accident, especially since he was reported to have cut off another car in the process of getting pulled over by CHP. Who knows what might have happened to himself, his passengers, and other motorists/citizens had he not been stopped. We all can only hope that Eric has learned from this emmensly, and that this was only an isolated incident, and nothing that he does on a regular basis, and just hasnt been caught doing until now. I wish Eric all the strength in the world in getting through this, as I'm sure this just adds to his already pressure-packed personal life aside from basketball, as it is.

Ture, but they have to be in the adversity all together -- the common opponent thing. I don't think this is the sort of thing that will necessarily tear us apart, but this is Muss's adversity, not the team as a whole's. And in the NBA you also often see the opposing sharks smelling blood in the water phenomenon where an embattled coach (for whatever reason) finds his troops less and less cooperative as they sense weakness. I would say the current incident kind of shifts the balance of power a bit between the coach and the players -- Muss is weakened, both owing the players for their support and needing their support.
I completely agree.

Now my thoughts;
I will say the play by play above sounds like the right things were said. IMO it was a mistake and time to move on and get ready for some BBall

Think of the times we've all messed up. It makes a huge difference when your friends and family are behind you.

How many other coaches or players would have seen their entire team there? Most press conferences like this that I can remember showed someone who was virtually alone.

Absolutely correct stance by the Maloofs and Petrie.

And as for Musselman "owing" the team, a coach ALWAYS does that. If they play hard and stick together for you, then you stay. If not, pack your bags.

Damn, sorry to hear about what happened to you. Hope everything is ok for you now.

But in terms of everything else yousaid, you're right on. You can only hope he turns this into a learning experience rather than just an incident in his life. I'm sure he'll pick himself and learn from this.

Well, what happened to me was a freak occurance that didnt involve alchohol or any foul play, we were just in the right place at the wrong time, and boom...it happened. So whenever I hear about people getting hit with DUI, I say...damn I'm glad they got what they had coming to them, because there's enough death and injuries that can occur WITHOUT being under the influence, so why make the odds greater of something tragic happening by drinking/smoking dope and then driving? I cant imagine the remorse that Eric probably is feeling right now, even as strong-willed as he seems to be, I'm sure it is hard to just 'move on'. Time heals everything, and I'm just glad for Eric's sake, and everyone that was in his vicinity the other morning when he was drinking and driving, that all he has to worry about is what COULD have happened, and not something more tragic.
