Moving to Arizona

#1
I've accepted a position with Kingman Regional Medical Center in Arizona. I'll be moving to Lake Havasu City. Unfortunately you all won't be getting rid of me, since they still have internet in the desert :p.

NBA League Pass is in my future, so I can still watch the Kings, and NFL Sunday ticket is in my future, so I can watch 49er games.

Well at least you managed to find the one spot of water in that entire desert.

On the other hand you are moving to...Arizona. :p

Welcome to AZ Doc, you shall be joining me in the friendly weathers that Arizona has to provide. Let me first off just say that we have one of the best winters, the weather is just awesome! You will see for yourself soon enough. As for the League Pass, I'm with ya on that one, I've been ordering it for the past couple of seasons and have not missed a Kings game and if I do, the good thing is they have repeats of the games later that night, another plus that league pass has added from last year.

Thanks Kingsboi. I've been hearing about the awesome winters. I was a bit concerned, because I do enjoy snowboarding, but I was thrilled to learn about the Arizona Snow Bowl in Flagstaff just a few hours away.

@Doc: Yeah that's what people do all the time when they want to snowboard/ski they head up to Flagstaff. Also, if you like camping and what not they got some places in Sedona for that. They have multiple lakes for fishing, boating or swimming.

Sedona is absolutely gorgeous. We want to go visit again.

Yeah you should for sure. Did you check out the Grand Canyon while you were in town as well?
We took a trip in July (this year) and did Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Route 66, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Meteor Crater, Mesa Verde, Arches, Bryce Canyon, and Zion. It was quite a trip! We enjoyed everything!

Sounds like you had a blast, good for you. You can't go wrong with Vegas. I've never heard of Route 66, Meteor Crater, Mesa Verde, Arches, Bryce Canyon & Zion. How long did your whole trip take anyways?

Er..how can you be in Phoenix and have never heard of those places? How long have you been there?

P.S. Warhawk sounds similar to the itineraries that my dad put together for us when we were young. Would always take two weeks off surround Easter, and head out on big circles through the West.

10 days. We were moving pretty quickly. ;)

Do yourself a favor and use that internet-thingy and look these things up. Learn a little bit about the world around your neck of the woods. Better yet, go visit some of these spots!

Brick - Yeah, same here. In fact, that is what inspired me to do it, the fun I had on those trips with the parents. Our little guy is 7 and traveled well on this one.

@Brick: How? I don't really care for them. I've never heard anybody mention it and I've never heard of it on television/net. I've been here 12 years.

@War: 10 days is pretty quick. As long as you saw everything you wanted to see. I would look them up but I don't have much interest in these things, I've been here long enough to not care for anything around me really, I prefer out of state places.

Um, Mesa Verde, Arches, Bryce Canyon & Zion are out of state for you. ;)

Route 66 is the historic roadway from Chicago to LA.
Meteor Crater is just that, a huge meteor crater just outside Flagstaff. Very cool to see.
Mesa Verde is one of the many places where Native Americans built cliff dwellings into the sides of tall mesas - you can walk through some of them and gain insight into the lives of these people.
Arches is a park filled with natural stone arches and balanced rocks.
Bryce Canyon is another park with unique rock features called hoodoos.
Zion is a park similar to Yosemite in California in many ways.

Really, the Grand Canyon might be bigger, but some of these parks are more beautiful and have unique features you really won't see in many other places.

The photos above are: Bryce Canyon, Meteor Crater, Mesa Verde, Route 66, Zion, and Arches

No wonder I never heard of them. Since their out of state, like I've mentioned I don't really care for much but what I know. None the less, those photos look very nice indeed, the third image looks pretty cool.

Mesa Verde is in Colorado; Arches, Bryce, and Zion are in Utah.

Man, I don't know what it is with kids nowadays. I can't wait to get in a car and go check out something I've never seen before. ;)

I first hit Arizona and New Mexico as a Boy Scout going to Philmont Scout ranch in the Sangre de Christo Mountains near Cimarron, New Mexico back in 1986. That 50-mile backpack trip helped open my eyes to the beauty of the Southwest. There are so many things to go see and do you just can't get anywhere else.

Go check it out man, you won't be disappointed spending a little time discovering the beautiful natural wonders you are surrounded by down there.

I've never been in Colorado & Utah myself, but I hear very often how beautiful Colorado can be.

I would check it out and all, but I'm not that type of person where I can go and explore my surroundings, I do enjoy nature & the beauty around it and what not but it's not something I can see myself doing just out of the blue because it's "intriguing" or what not. It really depends on how the person wants to approach it and what he/she wants to see.

Don't forget about the excellent mountain biking trails in Arizona. Arizona is such a fantastic place to live. Shoot, I would move there just for the mountain biking (I would need to find a job there first). Congrats on your job offer!!

^ There's that plus a lot of places where you can go hiking. Camping sites aren't too far away and they have lots of lakes you can go to, even a salt river.

DocHolliday: Congratulations on the new job! :) I've heard of that medical center. My brother and SIL have spent quite a bit of time in AZ and certainly enjoy many places there. They're retired and live the vagabond life in an RV. They just got back from a summer in Alaska.

Warhawk: Your family vacations sound like some of mine. Other vacations were to visit relatives and that was fun, too.

Love the pictures and I'd like to see so many of those places. The southwest was one of my Mom's favorite places. Zion, Canyonlands, Arches, Bryce, Four Corners, etc. I've been to Cedar Breaks in Utah and saw a lot of northern New Mexico with my brother. Saw Chaco Canyon ruins and slipped over to AZ to see Canyon De Chelly ruins, too. There's actually a Las Vegas, NM, where we stayed in a great old historic hotel.

I'm with you, I'll never get to all the places I'd love to go and see.
