More reason to hate the Lakers

Man, the over-exaggerating sarcastic response on this forum is epidemic.

Who said DMC sucked in the last 2 games?

Please, quote or use support instead of Straw Manning.

I doubt DMC's last 2 games' statlines fill people with confidence that he can dominate against big opponents:
Shooting 9 for 33 and getting half those rebounds on his own misses is different than the statlines he was putting up the previous weeks.

Agree, or disagree?

You know what else is "epidemic"? You deciding to be the final arbiter on what this forum is...and isn't.

You can make your points without passing judgment on the board. You might consider trying it. Lighten up, dude. It's a message board.

Go put your words in other people's mouths.

That's the nice thing about logical fallacies (Straw Man) - they aren't subjective.

You're welcome to try and show how I Straw Man'ed.
Go ahead.
Try.

Until you can, then you objectively cannot say I'm Straw Manning.
I simply stated my opinion, and wasn't replying to or representing anyone else's argument.

However, Section 101 did provably Straw Man:
http://www.theskepticsguide.org/resources/logicalfallacies.aspx

I provably didn't say Cousins sucked in his last 2 games, or that he should get 30/30.

But by all means, have other long-time members come out of the woodwork and attack me for saying DMC's last 2 games were weaker than his previous ones (9 for 33, people).
Gee, I wonder what the agenda here is, when even saying that objective statement gets posters to attack me.

Directly quoting you and saying it was an exaggeration isn't a strawman at all. You didn't say his games were weaker. I quoted you almost word for word. Can you not even read what you wrote?

I didn't accuse you of using a strawman at all. Actually, you created the strawman by accusing me of saying something I didn't, while you accuse Glenn of putting words in your mouth you just put words in mine. Damn you're a hypocrite.

DMC's 5th and 6th game on the road were weaker and during the last game I said he looked very tired. I'm not sure how important it is that a 270 pound man tires out on a 9 day road trip. I would expect him to tire and I still think he's pretty darn good.

In an amusing turn of events I actually agree with ifat1st, despite his unique ability to pee everybody off. Mentally has not been quite there for DeMarcus the last few, really ever since the big effort in Detroit.

Just to pee everybody off myself I wonder if IT's emergence could have had an effect , or too many close losses got him distracted, or the All Star game certainly on this last one.

Read the note directly above yours and you will find the definitive answer. I agreed with IfAt1st also but you can see how far that gets you. I just don't agree that it has any significance at all. Snap. Snarl. Everybody's an enemy if they don't quote perfectly.

I agree Cousins played poorly. i'd say that's kind of obvious. Just don't agree he wasn't trying hard. I saw dead legs, not lack of effort. He'd have had a monster game against Wash if he didn't sit the 4th.

Brick could be right about the IT effect. Have to see a little more though.

I cosign this post!

As kobe puts it, "Andrew f***ing Bynum". It seems he is still the same ol immature player that likes to knock out players in mid air.

When the local LA media asked bynum on his reaction of being selected as an all star, his answer was surprisingly humble as he said "Yao Ming has been the dominant center in the west for a long time. With him out, someone has to make it anyways."

At the end of the day, even the currently improved bynum doesn't match up in the slightest bit to the era of dominant centers with Hakeem, Ewing, Admiral, young Shaq, Zo etc. He would be a puppy playing in that era.

Cousins has a very high potential to reach the level of those guys I named. bynum is already maxed out, an injury prone physically dominating center who has only a few post moves and uses his weight and length to score on little guys. Cousins will be a much much much better player and will be an all star next year.

DMC can shout bynum's mouth up in their upcoming game very soon.

Barring a setback, I think Cousins is a lock for the team next year. He won't get voted in unless he's the overwhelmingly obvious choice, but he'll make the team as a coaches selection. He's on his way to a 16.5/11.5 season...79% of the 16.5/11.5 seasons ever were put in by Hall of Famers or shoe-ins (Duncan, Shaq, Garnett...). It's going to be hard to ignore his production from here on out.

Demarcus's response:

Cousins didn't take much from Bynum's statement.

"Those are words coming from another man's mouth," Cousins said. "I don't know where he got the idea from. I guess you can take it as a compliment.

"Sacramento is where I want to be. I want to bring the organization back and start back winning. I love the city of Sacramento. That's where I want to be. End of story," Cousins said.

Hey Maloofs, Cuz wants to stay in Sac. You should follow his lead.

Well that is the best possible response he could have given. No insults, and standing up for the city. Really hope he sticks to his word because he can make this franchise relevant again, and it will be all the sweeter for him if he does it with the team that drafted him and believed in him, and the fanbase that's loyal to him.

In a way Bynum is half right. Its NOT a shame that Cousins is in Sacramento....that in itself is a GREAT thing BUT its a shame he is playing for a team that is run by owners that are broke in NBA terms. If the Maloofs are not prepared to spend to have a winner (and you need to pony up some major cash if you want to be a contender, let alone be a champion team) then it is an absolute waste of Cousins' talent to be on a perennial lottery team.

Bottom line: The team needs new owners who can afford to spend the money needed in order to have a perennial winner on the court. In that environment, Cousins is thriving and would be a certainty for a hall of fame once he hangs up the sneakers.

It has been mentioned before that a lot of what a player achieves is measured by the number of rings he wears. I think that is ridiculous but give us Burkle so Cuz goes down in history the way he should. I don't know if Bynum has enough brain power to think these things through but he's right as to where Cuz may go down in history. Assuming a whole bunch of things, if Cuz was on the Lakers, he would go down as one of the best. To follow on what Čarolija said, Cuz needs the team to fall into new hands.

Bynum shouldn't even be playing this season after the muay thai elbow he nailed JJ Barea with in the playoffs last year!! That could have had Rudy Tomjonavich effects had it hit a few inches higher on Barea's face. Yeah D*CK is an understatement!

That was one of the most terrible things I have seen on a basketball court, it had nothing to do with basketball and was in fact an attempt to blatantly hurt another player. Probably the worst case of judgment and poor decision making ever. Any surprise it came from a Laker?

You are obviously very young -- watch Karl Malone's flying elbow to the face of a slashing Isiah Thomas to see how its done. Or perhaps McHale's flying clotheline on Rambis on the break.

Yeah, its amazing how people think plays like that are dirty/aggressive in the context of today's much softer game. Watching plays from the 80's and early 90's is such a shock for how brutal things got, and were sometimes not even called fouls.

33 next month...but Malone's elbow was dirty and everything but he was still playing basketball....same with the clothesline of Rambis, it was a basketball play, a hard foul and unnecessary, but they were still going for the ball per se. Bynum threw a blatant elbow into Barea's side, not even attempting to mask it as going for the ball.

Here's a quote from WIKIPEDIA

"Kermit Alan Washington (born September 17, 1951 in Washington, D.C.) is an American former professional basketball player. Washington is best remembered for punching opposing player Rudy Tomjanovich during an on-court fight in 1977. The punch nearly killed Tomjanovich, and it resulted in severe medical problems that ultimately ended his playing career. During his pro years and after his retirement, Washington has struggled with the negative perception of him that resulted from the punch."

I started watching basketball when I was 7, 1986. I grew up in the era of Detroits bad boys, Charles Oakley and other 'physical' players. You could always argue that they were making a play on the ball, a very unnecessarily hard play on the ball but still going for it. Was Bynum?

Very well aware of that incident. Pretty damn ugly too to hear about. However, there was already a fight going on and Tomjanovich was running at Washington, Washington had no idea it was on a peacekeeping mission. Someone running at me in the heat of a fight is going to get popped regardless.
