Mike Malone ... Nuggets Coach

I seriously doubt PDA had any say whatsoever in the hiring, so it's not that much of a surprise. Clearly the Nuggets are going a different direction, though, after years of mediocrity with their small ball.

I don't particularly like the Nuggets but wish Mike all the best, hope he does great there. Shame he's not still here with us.

Even if PDA did have a say, it would not surprise me at all if he recommended Mike. He's the type that would do anything to make himself appear as the innocent party, even if it went against his philosophy. It's about damage control for PDA at this point. Although with that said, I genuinely don't think he had any say in the matter. He's a numbers guy now, which is all he ever should have been.

Wish him nothing but luck...but feel like that's a mine laden situation. Treadmilling, philosophical questions etc.

I think this means Nurkic is their franchise player now. Very interesting. Mike Malone always loved IT so I can see Lawson fitting there. Good luck to Malone

Extremely frustrating that he isnt still coaching the kings. Everyone had been clammoring for a good defensive team for years. Malone finally orchestrated one and before you could even crack a smile he was fired. I really hope Karl can put a winner out there. I want to start gloating about the Kings like an obnoxious pr#ck again.

I am a big Malone fan and I wish him well but this just doesn't seem like a good fit at all. But unfortunately (1) Malone isn't a hot enough commodity to be choosy about head coaching gigs and (2) he's not the type to take time away from the game if he can help it. So I'll chalk this up to "striking while the iron is hot" and hopefully he can find a way to be successful.

Drop all the drama and how poorly Malone was handled (Malone was disrespected).... in the end....WE HAVE A BETTER COACH BY FAR.... Malone will be forgotten all together in 20 years... Karl will be a HOF coach and never forgotten.... simple as that ....

Karl is WAAAAY better.... and WE ARE WAAAAAY better off with him..... Mike is a great guy and I wish him the best. I'm sure he will be good... I just don't expect greatness from him... He's very limited in creativity.

But I thought he would never work with PDA again and he'd have come back to the Kings in an instant if PDA was removed.

That narrative has taken a hit.

Well he couldn't very well come back once we hired Karl. Dude is a head coach, not somebody's doughnut runner.

And I thought the PDA hiring might scuttle things too. But the talks were already well advanced before PDA arrived and maybe he really is sidelined off in the business side of things. If I was Mike I wouldn't feel comfortable having that rat anywhere near the power structure, but there are only 30 head coaching jobs in the NBA, one of them opens up, for a team with a little talent even, you probably jump on it and get back to coaching.

No I know he wouldn't he actually come back. But that line was tweeted out by Carmichael Dave or bruski or someone recently.

Still the way it was painted by some Malone wouldn't even p on Pete if he was on fire. So it's surprising they'll be in the same building again.

The first Nuggets @ Kings game just got a lot more interesting.

Since the organization has repeatedly called this a fork in the road summer and

* We've almost swapped coaches with the Nuggets
* The Nuggets pick right behind us and I get the impression that the Kings will take a strong prospect that needs to help now, while Denver will take the best long term prospect
* In 3 years, the Kings will have either inked DMC to an extension or moved him to start over yet again
* In 3 years, the Nuggets hope they have emerged from the rebuild they are staring

So, in 2 or 3 years, it will be very interesting to take stock of both teams.

It was probably one of the guy's tactics to draw more attention. It's probably just an opinion they shared.

Let's wait until Shareef is hired in Denver, and then it will be true bizarro world.
Well, everybody in Sacramento media is claiming this means, that PDA has no say in basketball operations as was actually reported by national media from the start. National media claims, this means PDA is all white and fluffy.

P.S. I believe, Melvin Hunt is on his way to being an assistant in Sacramento then.

Indeed it has.

Or PDA really has very little power in Denver. So little he will have nothing to do with Malone.

Maybe he just wanted to have the opportunity for a little face to face payback late some night when everybody else has left the building. :p

[Midnight, Mountain Time]

New Nuggets Head Coach Michael Malone enters an office and closes the door behind him. Across the room a strange little man looks up from a wedge of cheese.

Malone: Pete, I thought we should have a little chat.
Pete: [nervous laugh] Um...sure thing Mike. Er...thing is that right now I have these...
Malone: Clear the air so to speak.
Pete: Um...
Malone: Do you remember December Pete?
Pete: [squeak!] Um...good talk!

Definitely surprised to hear this...I wish him the best of luck. Not many more coaches I'd rather see succeed out there than him. I just hope he doesn't have to deal too closely with PDA.

F PDA...I'll be pulling and watching Malone's team with interest. The one thing I do know is that Malone is miles better than Brian Shaw.....do t know much about Melvin Hunt but Denver got better.

He may have very little power now, but rest assured he's going to do everything he can to get power. And then...?

Good luck Mike!

But I thought Denver wanted to go uptempo on the offense? Ooops, I guess they changed course again.

I'm just glad that Denver is picking behind the Kings, because I have no idea what direction they are taking.

Are they trying to keep going with the current roster or are they going to blow it up and rebuild?

Does this mean Ty Lawson will be off the trade market, since Malone liked IT so much?
