maybe we need to look to the d-league?

maybe we should look at gettin our back up center in the d-league for now. i think the other forums have figured out that there are really very few REALISTIC options in the nba for our ideal back-up big. i dont know about too many d-leagers though, anyone know of someone to look out for?

Golden State just brought up Chris Hunter - a big, athletic dude - and has played well for them.

Certainly a back-up/rotation quality big. He could've helped the Kings. So they are out there. Golden State has just done a better job than most NBA teams with D-Leaguers: Azubuike, CJ Watson, and now Hunter. I'd also throw Anthony Morrow in with that group, he was definitely headed to the D-League before the Warriors signed him as an undrafted rook.

We can say in this forum look at the d-league, undrafted prospects, Euro league, or everywhere and it won't matter even a bit.

I think what fans should do is bring a big placard at ARCO arena telling Petrie:

Wake-up Petrie! Coach Westphall needs another Center preferably one better than the softy Hawes!

What's wrong with you!

Fans should put more pressure on Petire.

Seriously, give Petrie credit for his recent drafting success and letting go of big contracts. This team has turned around so much since last year. Let's be happy!

If there's an opportunity to upgrade at center then all the better, but really there's no reason to worry this much about whether the roster is perfectly balanced right now. This team isn't making a serious run yet with or without another center and isn't at the point of the finishing touches. No reason to reach on another scrub just because he fits the dimensions.

i believe at this point, we could use a scrub at the center if he can play halfway decent defense. i personally dont want to see sean mays *** playing center for this team ever again. Lots of teams have gotten some great back-up players from the d-league, yet the kings NEVER pull anyone up. even last year when a d-league team might have been able to beat the damn kings, the only player we pulled up was donte, who we put there to begin with. i saw chris hunter last night for the warriors as well, and he looked like a player we could easily find playing time for.

I really like Rod Benson of the Bighorns, he's fairly tall at 6'10 and he's really quick and athletic. Although I can't see him playing the 5 where I feel like he would get dominated. But I really like what this guy has to offer, he's 25 so we would have some time left, but he wouldn't be our answer to the 5 spot but I really like his game.

It's going to be hard to find a big in the D-league. If they have any shot chances are they will be on somebody's roster. Your more likely to find a guard or small forward.

how about john bryant? he is listed as 6'11 and plays the center, and he plays for the erie bay hawks.

i dont really no much about him though, so maybe so one else can fill me in
if he would be a good fit or not
oh by the way it said that these were his averages points, rebounds, and assists.PPG15.0 RPG14.00 APG1.5EFF+ 26.00

I beleive he played for the Kings' summer league team.

d-league just isn't a likely source for a high level player that's going to immediately break into your rotation. You might b able to find a NBA level guy there, somebody to fill the bench out with and who might eventually be a good roleplayer for you or whatnot (should be noted Robert Swift is down there too). But there are no third bigs/20-25min a night Cs/PFs somehow escaping everybody else's notice down in te D-league.

What about Stromile Swift. He is out of a job right now could be another Jim Jackson type situation.

I dont think he can beat the 24 second clock getting down the court.

IMO, any undersized player should not even be entertained. We cannot use the same solution to the problem over and over again and expect it will give us a different result.

Yeah...I'm sure Petrie is totally unaware of that fact.
Yeah, he knows it right at the very beginning and upto now.

And what did he do?

He signed the undersized Sean May, Mason, and Udoka. I don't know why, but everybody knows we've got some players who can do what these 3 players can do.

Well, we've given him credit. He has been excellent as a talent scout so far. And I am so happy he's got that eye for spotting good players on drafts. But that is just part of his job and he needs to do more than just draft the best players available. I have to remind you that Petrie is not just a talent scout. He is the GM of this franchise.

Okay, I'll bite...

Exactly what do you think the duties of the General Manager are? And what else should he be doing that he isn't doing?

As far as signing Sean May goes, he was worth a shot. Mason is gone, replaced by Udoka who hasn't hurt. You have to have enough bodies to fill a roster and the guys at the end of the bench aren't expected to do much.

Procrastination, procrastination, procrastination. And I don't blame you for being too patient. Actually, I admire you. Patience is a virtue. :D

I hope I'm wrong. I have a feeling it would just be a matter of time. This team would revert back to it's old self of playing uninspired basketball once it gets frustrated from losing too many games. As a fan, I don't want that to ever happen again - even if it's temporarily. I want the momentum to keep going for the better.

BTW, nobody is suggesting to get another scrub like Sean May on this team again.

Oh, come on now.

Don't tell me Petrie does not have an iota of common sense. He may have done a lot of mistakes in the past, but I cannot believe he was thinking the way you think. This is a multimillion business and not just a small store we're talking about. He couldn't be thinking that way.

To fill-up the roster with players not expected to do much?

If that was his intention just to fill-up the roster, then he should have been wise enough to have at least filled-up one of those 3 vacant spots with a back-up center. That I think could have been more than worth the shot if you were just to waste the Maloofs' money on scrubs.

Can you not remember how a lot of fans moaned and groaned at the signing ( after signing ) of Sean May, Mason, and Udoka?

And I have yet to see anybody on this board come up with an idea for a good, available big that the Kings could realistically get, without giving up pieces we probably don't want to give up or without taking on a contract that's just to big. Some scrub in the D-League? I'm so excited.

You're just assuming GP has lots of options out there that he keeps passing on. I may be assuming he hasn't passed on a good deal. I hardly think GP is perfect, but I don't think he's congenitally stupid either and get awfully tired of people talking like he is.
