Maxime Raynaud

Who knows how long it would have taken to discover Max and Cardwell with JV still backing up Sabonis and eventually starting due to injury? I'll give Perry credit for that, though I didn't like the trade at all in the moment. Helped the "tank" too
I agree it opened up opportunities for our rookies that otherwise would have been less existent, but trading JV for scraps still makes me question Perry’s decision making.

Gotta remember that the only reason JV is playing in the NBA at all this year is because Denver threatened him with litigation if he left for his big Europe deal this summer

Okay, I knew there was talk of his returning to Europe but didn’t realise Denver had applied the thumbscrews.

maxime raynaud got that dawg in him 💪😤

Kings finally got an enforcer but he’s a 22 year old French rocket scientist who went to Stanford lol

Stuff like this gives me hope he can improve on the defensive end. If you're a Dragan Bender level wussy, you have no chance. Max has the fight and the want, he's just gotta keep working on his frame.

It's crazy how this relatively small amount of attitude from a rookie is noticeable. As much as I loved the beam team, they were very very soft (outside of a brief Trey Lyles losing his mind and choking Lopez moment).

Doug finally using Max in his post Domas actions and the kid is thriving in them. He’s also really good at back tapping the o-boards to teammates unlike a certain other former Kings big man/ex-GM.
If the Kings were to able to move Domas this summer for some younger players/ draft picks, I would be comfortable with a Maxime / Cardwell center rotation going forward. Good offense / defensive combo with solid rebounding from both players.

Wembanyama eviscerated Raynaud last night. He has a long ways to go to match up with the top centers in the league.

Wemby eviscerates 99.99% of the centers in the league. No one can really stop him and he is an outlier. Most other centers in the league are not aliens from another planet.
the best you can do is hope to slow him down. That’s all you can do against superstars. It’s like saying someone has a long way to go because he couldn’t stop Steph Curry.

Here are his stats in the last fifteen games, all losses, against all kinds of NBA centers:

He does have a long way to go. His defensive rating in the past 15 games is 121.2. Not to say that anyone else other than Cardwell, at 112.3, is doing much better on defense at this point. But the comparison to Cardwell is stark by any statistical measure.

You didn't say “last 15 games,” you said Wemby. No one is going to argue that Raynaud is a good defender. Could he be at least above average? Possibly, he has the athletic tools, he just needs better coaching.

5. Maxime Raynaud, Sacramento Kings

Season stats: 10.1 ppg, 7 rpg, 1.1 apg
Last Ladder: No. 5 ↔️
Draft pick: No. 42

In his past 10 games, all since Kings fans hollered about Raynaud’s “snub” from Rising Stars consideration, the 7-foot-1 Frenchman has averaged 13.1 points and 9.9 rebounds, with five double-doubles. He leads his rookie class with 11 overall and is second in rebounds (357) only to the Pelicans’ Derik Queen.

Maxime Raynaud over his last 10 games:
- 15.6 PPG
- 10.6 RPG
- 61% FG%
- 65% TS%

He’s the first rookie in 7 YEARS to average 15 and 10 on 60% shooting over a 10 game span.

Max has some work to do on defense, but he's a tremendous hit, even if he doesn't get better than he is right now.

Obviously Ayton was a pretty big bust at #1 overall but getting Ayton-level production at #42 would be a steal

Big difference is Max actually tries and cares out there. Was noticeable from day 1 of SL where he would not stop talking on defense.

Maybe he never develops into a starting caliber defender, but he's got that "want" to do so. That's a big factor in anyone taking that next leap
