Kevin Martin has left a mark on the city of Zanesville. Wednesday he was thanked for it.

At a special ceremony, Grover Cleveland Middle School renamed it's new gym "Kevin Martin Gymnasium," with the honoree in attendence.

A 2001 graduate of Zanesville High School, Martin was drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings in 2004, recently wrapping up his third season in the league. As the starting shooting guard he averaged a team-best 20.2 points per game.

Zanesville mayor Howard Zwelling was in attendence at the special ceremony where he announced that May 30th become "Kevin Martin Appreciation Day."

Former coaches and teachers entertained the crowd with stories about Martin growing up. From cracking jokes about his thin frame to his former elementary teacher telling how Martin used to say he'd play in the NBA someday even at a young age.

Those dignitaries in attendence included Martin's assistant coach at Western Carolina Duggar Baucom and his agent Jason Levien, who flew in from Miami Florida.

Afterward, Martin signed autographs for those in attendence. Currently, Martin is working out at Zanesville High School while visiting family. He also plans to play on team Domino's at this weekend's Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Zanesville.
