Marcus Thornton

I have one:

How much is it going to cost us to keep him this offseason?

A lot more than $1.3 mil earned over his past two seasons. The situation is somewhat similar to Kings signing Beno Udrih to full mid-level exception under existing CBA. The new CBA will dictate what Marcus Thornton gets.

Mark my post, he will be getting something in the range of what Wes Mathews got from Portland last summer, hell maybe a little more depends on who will try to outbid us.

Well under the old CBA nobody would be willing to run out and drop $10+mil on a guy after a month and a half of this, so pretty much whatever they are offereing out there will be reaoasonable form our perspective. I would expect sombody to come with at least $5-6mil a year (again under old CBA). Would be surprised, but not shicked if somebody took a huge $8mil flyer. For us, any of those numbers is matchable for the #3 gun -- by the time the crunch hits with Reke and DeMarucs coming off their rookie deals, we should be free of Cisco or Beno's current deals and be able to fit everybody.

I've come around. Signing Thornton long term certainly seems just as effective, if not more, than signing a free agent. Especially when one considers who will be available. We don't need any more gunners - now we just need glue. Good, solid, veteran glue at the SF position.

Umm could you start hitting your shots earlier in the game and stop turning the ball over when you dribble. Other than that, good job.

I didn't doubt he could score, and thought he could put up some empty numbers down the stretch, like Rashad McCants.
But he's been able to do it without sacrificing fg%, and his playmaking has been a surprise. His D has been OK, but he forces turnovers and plays tough, which is all you can ask from an undersized 2.

If he improves his efficiency by just a notch, closer to 23 than 20 on 17 shots, and his passing ability is for real, he might be an all-star even in the crowded west.

Question:

If we had Thorton from day 1, how many more games do we win this season based on his clutch shots alone? If you remembered we were blowing games left and right before he showed up just because we would choke at the end every time.

I'd venture to say we'd have 7-10 more wins just based on his clutchness.

That sounds fair. Even if Thornton himself wouldn't produce 7-10 wins, you'd think the Dally/Cuz/JT groove would have been found earlier, and that cannot be understated because Landry and JT battling for minutes resulted in a virtual zero for both of them.
