Marc Stein: Big Don Nelson to the Kings?

Not even about this current team for me -- its about Artest. Like it or not, Artest IS the franchise now. And certainly could rip us apart if he lost it again. And Rick is somebody with stature who has managed to coexist with a lot of problem personalities over the years. Changes the Rick returning equation considerably, although it still may not be up to us.

Yes! However, there have been far worse disagreements or conflicts or whatever between a coach and management and things have been patched up. Seriously, there is no better person out there than RA to coach this team. If not for Horry's shot or a few more made ft's in Game 7, RA would have a title and be perceived completely different when in reality he would be the same identical coach as he is today. My vote is to pay Rick what he deserves and bring him back...unless everything goes to pot from here on out.

It worked against the Nuggets. If it doesn't work against another team the Kings can give them a different look. If that doesn't work they can try something else. The beauty of the system is that it is not just "throw it into the post and stand around," it has inherent flexibility that makes it very difficult for teams to adequately defend.

Let's not forget both of those guys are getting about into the groove of things. Bonzi's percentage was higher before he left and I have no problem with him taking those shots. And neither do I have a problem with artest taking those shots. You haven't seen his best shooting yet. That you can bank on.

I don't put too much stock into anything Marc Stein says. The guy is too busy sucking up to Kobe Bryant and the Lakers to actually know anything about future coaching changes for the Kings. The way I see it, he's just trying to stir up some sh**.

yup. marc stein is a d*****bag. he's just trying to start more drama between adelman and the maloofs.

we need a keep adelman thread!!

Please no Don Nelson; we need to get better defensively. Don is not going to get us anywhere near where we need to be defensively

I heard this same talk in Northern Texas around X-mas. But it just doesn't make sense, especially as Bricklayer said, now with Artest and Bonzi, the last thing we need is a head coach w/ a big ego. Also, could you imagine "little Donnie" barking away at refs and players in hopes that he'll be successor? BTW, Nellie did have some serious health concerns while coaching in allas and he'd probably keel over if he had the reins to Sacto. I mean, on a personal level, doesn't he look totally happy in that picture? Stay retired Don! Keep your million per year as consultant and enjoy life for a while!

I do not think that I would EVER take nellie over Adleman. He really is not an upgrade. If we can convince Adleman to stay, I think it will be best for our team right now. We need someone with Rick's apparent talent of "reforming" guys. I just do not know if the Maloofs will ba able to talk him into it. I am not even sure they want to. They have confused me this past season and a half- so who knows what they are thinking!

If we do not keep Adleman, I HAVE NO CLUE who we should go after, BUT I am sure that it should NOT be Nellie.

First of all I always have trouble believing any words that follow the by line Mark Stein. From my seat the only rational reason to dump Adelman and hire Nelly is to placate disgruntled fans after a loosing season. Please don't bother telling me why this move will hurt the team and that Nelly will never win anything, you are right and you miss the point. IF the team fails to rally ends the year under .500 and fans are grumbling the front office will be MUCH less concerned with long range plans, which is frankly been a hell of a luxury the Owners have enjoyed for many years. Never mind the bad old days when the team stank but the fans were loyal, this is a new era and the fans have expectations... so savvy owners have to do something visible and in the end when your tem is under .500 and you already brought in a super star to turn the team around the ONLY move is to fire the coach. IF the villagers of Sacramento gather outside Arco with torches and Pitch forks look for Mad Doctor Petrie to throw Adeleman to the crowd... never mind that he never meant to hurt the old man, or any other facts; this is business.

So once RA is gone then who do you hire? If you want to placate the quick tempered slow witted fans that demand trades or coaching changes on line after each and every loss one smart move might be to bring a guy that will win a lot of games. Settle for a season or two of winning records with early exits from the play offs then when a better guy is found make the move. Of course anticipating a Geoff Petrie move is always easier said than done so even if word to Ax RA comes down from on high I would not put a lot of weight on the Nelly possibility.

but I'm sure Pauly is just swamped with job ops right now.

Well I do know one thing. If Pauly Shore ran the team he would ensure that we had the hottest dance squad in the league.

Resign Rick Adelman as soon as possible, if he will sign. Any other coach would be a step down, including Phil Jackson.

I dunno about "hottest dance squad"... all NBA dance squads are pretty ridiculously hot... it's more about having the hottest DANCES... :)

AND the skimpist uniforms. ;)

I actually needed to read this article.

Once again, poor Marc Stein is the victim of his own ego. Does he honestly believe that Don Nelson, he of the bulging forehead veins and reddish face, could get the most of players like Bonzi and Artest? There's a reason the "black sheep" players come to Sacramento and flourish. That reason is RICK ADELMAN.

A lot of us may have some problems with his style, but it's pretty much undeniable that he can bond with the players Petrie brings in and get them to play up to their potential better than possibly anyone else in the NBA.

Don Nelson? Lord, no...

No, no, no, no, no...

and in case you're still wondering what my opinion is, it's NO!

It's been said by some that Rick Adelman may want to leave and go elsewhere, so the decision may not entirely be up to the Maloof brothers. A part of me wants to keep Adelman since I think he's good for players like Artest and Bonzi. The other part of me says that Adelman's strong point has always been offense and we may need a newer coach to emphasize more defense. How about Eric Musselman? He did ok with Golden State and has a good track record in the CBA.

If they want to keep him, its is up to them and GP to make him feel wanted here. (something that it SEEMS like they have not been trying to do much lately)

JVG?? The offense-killer? Step up defensively maybe, but he just stifles the offense.

How bout Stan Van gundy?
no thanks, I'd rather have Nellie. Nellie CAN coach a defensive minded team...the 1st team he built, the Milwaukee Bucks of the early-mid 80's were one of the best defensive teams of their era...He got Paul Pressey and Alvin Robertson, and he had his cornerstones...kinda like we have here in Bonzi and Ron. So he CAN bring energy and charisma to a defensive team...I just think he got caught up in wanting to get attention, because offensive minded teams get all the glitz, and I think he liked it. But I think he would realize what he has here with the Kings if he was to come here. But, for the record, if Adelman would start making smarter substitution decisions, now that the team has turned the corner as far as style of play...then I see no reason to look elsewhere for a coach, give Rick a raise and extension.

Artest would absolutley hate JVGs offense. Actually so would everybody else. But Artest is the only one that might snap, paint his face blue, take off all his clothes and run through the stands shouting "trade me! trade me!".

JVG is kind of like an unorignal Carlisle on offense. Walk it up, call every play, make sure no more than two people are involved on any play. Strangle, stifle. I might hire him as a defensive coordinator, but never never never should he be allowed to a coach offense again,

was about to say the same exact thing. I wouldnt want either Van Gundy, over Adelman, or Nellie, for that matter.

That's a great bottle of wine right there in the picture. Tinagnello, a super-Tuscan. Judging by the label late 90's. We can use some of that.

As for Don - no.
