Maloofs have Infuriated other owners

The Big Lie - contorted philosophy/theory. The more you repeat it, the more people just might believe it, and the more you convince yourself it's right/justified. People in desperate financial trouble, in foreclosure, with debt collectors at their doorstep, often act very irrational. Interesting how Joe Maloof when asked about the families financial condition (Voisin interview) had so little to hang his hat on in response - mostly talking up their "Wells Fargo stock." They've got to now be one of, if not the most ragged bunch of no longer rich and famous owners in major league professional sports. Don't they realize that owning such a major sports franchise is not a way to get rich, but is just an exclusive rich mans hobby? Laughable, pathetic and tragic, all at the same time!

This is probably the key point here. I just don't see how the deal wouldn't be profitable for the Maloofs. Would the NBA really negotiate a deal for one of their teams that would see them consistently lose money? Its seems to me that the Maloofs just wouldn't be profitable enough for their standards. Especially since they would have to pay back loans to the city and NBA.

And don't forget about the revenue sharing that was included in the new CBA.

If the deal was so bad for them, like they claim, I would like them to release specific data showing that this deal would lose them money. But that is going to happen.

This is what I'm confused about. Stern says that the arena "is not gonna happen" and KJ has said that it's "pretty much dead". I'm talking purely hypothetical but what if the Maloofs wake up tomorrow and finally realize that they have no future in the league and decide to sell to Burkle? Wouldn't the arena deal still be good? Or have they already scrapped it and all the council votes mean nothing since the original ownership group that agreed to pay $75 million are out of the picture.

In short, do we have to go over this whole process again or is the original framework still good in the hopeful event of Burkle coming to town?

That's a good question and I suspect it depends on what is going on behind the scenes right now. Kevin Johnson needs votes on the council to put the deal through and convert the parking assets into usable capital. That means there's a timeline after which this current deal will no longer be feasible. There's also an independent development going on at the railyards site which might have to be altered if there is no ESC to make room for. That's why I hope they are able to come up with a source for the remaining $73 million which will keep this current project moving forward. After all the work that Mayor Johnson and league representatives put in over the last year, I would hope that they're working on alternative means to keep this deal alive in some form.

I'm not sure we can take those quotes from Stern and Johnson at face value. The deal agreed to by all parties at Orlando is dead. We have to assume the Maloofs aren't going to change their mind about that again because they need to be cut out of the decision-making process entirely if it's ever going to happen. But a revised arena plan isn't out of the question and indeed I suspect, for the reasons I listed above, that this is what Kevin Johnson is working on. His message when he came off the plane in Sacramento was "don't give up". Those are the words I would take to heart.

not just Grant, everyone at 1140 has to be reserved on what they about the magoofs, their former producer, John Dickenson, who now works in the bay area tweeted about how controlling the magoofs are about what goes on at the station.

Don mentioned that on Friday while they were playing the Maloof presser. That KHTK employees take it easy on the Maloofs. He even mentioned that he was getting messages from CBS brass that he needed to tone down the Maloof hate while they were on the air.

I would think if Burkle came to town that it would be fast tracked pretty quick through City Council. I would think it would even gain more favor now that "The Unreliables" are out of the picture, and it's being backed by a big money dude. Just a guess.

Not to mention the fact that Burkle uses 73 million dollars to wipe every time he uses the restroom.

To be fair, Dickenson is @#$% who always has to take the "alternative" view. Hes one of those people you listen to and you imagine their head as a melon and you squash it!

My suspicion is that the REAL sticking point is a 50mil no colateral, pay it when or if you feel like it loan. I think Samueli is willing to give this money pretty much no strings attatched. If the Maloof don't get that there is no way they sign because they feel they can get that in OC.

Samueli won't give the loan "no strings attached". Samueli wants to own the Kings, not just host them in his building. He wants to offer the Maloofs a loan they can't repay with the team as collateral, and nothing else.

Exactly.

I recall reading the Honda Center lease terms. Miss a payment and the entire balance is due immediately. Might have been some exceptions like for a lockout, etc. But Samueli had them by the balls if they miss a payment. I thought it seemed rather harsh, but I figured they agreed to that either because they were really dumb or it was always the plan to have Samueli buy the team before too long down there anyway.
