Yeah....MT comes to mind regarding the body language. If these guys can grind out another win tonight or tomorrow then it would go a long ways to being more confident as a team. I really like the leadership skills from Malone....he holds them accountable but not in a demeaning way.....part cheerleader, part disciplinarian, good natural mix. Knows what he's doing unlike our last few coaches.

Probably, but to be fair it's not just aimed at him. DeMarcus was doing it quite a lot, which was unusual given that he was dominating. I know his demeanour isn't sunshine and lollipops anyway, but it seemed more pronounced than usual against Denver. Maybe because he had almost no help offensively, but you'd still like to see him encouraging players rather than shaking his head and hanging it.

I can't tell if MT is unhappy of if that's just the way he is. He might just have that "I'm pissed off" look all the time. I can't remember the last time that he smiled while playing.

It isn't just aimed at Thornton. Malone has an excellent way about him of communicating his points, unlike some posters here. You CANNOT insult or demean a player when your asking them to change behavior, not matter how bad that behavior is. The underlying key in Malone's approach is that his whole tone has an underlying tone of respecting the players, even while saying they need to change. He appeals to reason, not authority (his).

This coach is right on the money. What I like is that he's talking about this issue after a win. He's focused on playing the right way and having the right mentallity regardless of whether they win or lose or whatever the particular circumstances may be. Enough with the drama queens. It's come from just about every player on the team, some more than others. Time to change.

Malone is doing it right. George Hill was right about the Kings in the past few years. here is an excerpt from the article linked above:

Some Kings didn't like it when Indiana's George Hill said after a win in Sacramento last December that the key to beating them was to "punish the criers" by running down the court for easy scores while they moaned to officials.

But Hill was on target. The Kings spent an inordinate amount of time whining or bickering with each other when they could have been getting back on defense."

time will tell how good of a head coach mike malone will become, but the early signs are all so positive. he certainly says the right things but, more importantly, he implements the right things: defense, rebounding, attitude. the kings' current roster is not defensively inclined, nor are they exceptional rebounders, outside of DMC. but sheer effort coupled with a severe adjustment in attitude and culture can go a long way towards improving both the team defense and the team rebounding (in the opener, the kings tied the nuggets in the rebound battle, 41-41)...

mostly agreed. I do think that Malone might have some Skiles-like burnout potential down the road, but right now, he seems to be the perfect guy to whip this roster into shape, attitude-wise.

This an example of good coaching. Basketball is a mental game more than many people believe. IT is an example of a player with a positive outlook. Several players on the team are not. G Hill's comment is very important to the Kings' future. Start thinking about the next play as soon as you finish this one.

I'd like to see the Kings basically ignore the refs. I believe if they did this to a large extent, they would gain a ton of respect and over time, many more calls. Should be a team goal to have no techs, if they really want to prove how much their attitude is changing. As much as I loved our 'golden era' teams, this was one area where they fell short a in a big way, with almost constant interaction with the officials

Malone is already leading by example in this regard, I've noticed him a couple times already..where he just bit his lip and said nothing at all about a questionable call. He also walked over to Cousins after his tech, and escorted him over to the bench in a fully composed manner. Great stuff. I love our coach so far, in all areas...including his post game insight and interest in sharing with the fans. He gets it

It will be a work in progress unless we get rid of some of the dead weight Petrie has left Alessandro. I really dislike Salmons' body language in general. He looks like he absolutely could care less.

Suggesting that winning cures slumping does nothing to address the current problem which is likely to remain without some coaching. It is very early in the season but I think Coach Malone understands his business at many different levels. He is very composed so far. Let's hope it continues and rubs off on the other coaches and players.

Ownership knows what they have in Malone. The roster still needs improvement. Main issue is lack of length at multiple positions. Basketball is a tall men's sport and it's difficult to win consistently with short players. The defensive rotations look much better already. They forced the Warriors into a lot of turnovers. If not for Curry and Klay bombing from 27 feet out, that game would have been much closer.

I like most of what i hear him say my self, but he is direct to the point of bluntness, and says the first thing that enters his mind. Such as "we don't have great players and I am not a great coach" Now he may be right and I may even at some level agree with him but there are oh so many other ways to communicate this idea that do lot leave you with those sound bites forever out there. Again how he addresses players behind close doors and what you say about them with film rolling are two different things. He may get better at PR or he just have to go Popivch/Adelman and say little let the chips fall. The latter is a bold move for an unproven new coach.

Maybe, but I don't think some of his public statements were helpful. I know a little something about communication and to me it seemed like a guy who's only communication style is direct and off the top of his head. A man with only a hammer sees every problem as a nail. (Maslow paraphrased)

players r grown men. they need to see it like it is. upgrading talent takes time. upgrading ur work ethics and locker room culture can start now.

He wants them to play as a team. Individually they may not be the greatest but if they play together then collectively they won't be the worse. When they are on the same page, it's possible for the whole to be greater than the sum of the parts individually.

What may it accomplish? Hopefully to get the mindset from me to we.

If you're saying Michael Malone so far, has been similar to the last few coaches, then I just disagree. He's been great and exactly what we need.

As for why he might want those kinds of comments heard. Maybe they want find out who can handle the truth with composure and pride and an ability to step up when things aren't going their way. The quickest way to find out who is really committed to the team, is to observe reactions to adversity.

The big points so far have been "culture" and "attitude". If someone can't handle the truth at the highest level of competition in this game, then they won't be an asset to this team for what's it priorities are
