Malone fired

It just goes to show you when it comes to basketball decisions, Vivek is more incompetent than Gavin or any other owner that thinks they know basketball.

Malone was Vivek's first hire and he praised continueously how great Malone is. Why they hell would he hire a GM that has a totally different philosophy from the coach? Doesn't make sense at all. So essentially, Vivek is saying he wasted more than a year of development because he got confused when he hired them 2.

Fair enough. I don't like being labeled virtually an idiot for blindly wanting to get rid of Malone at all costs. I said plenty of negative things about Malone, but I didn't want him fired until we saw what we had post Cousins injury.

The Josh Smith thing was more in my realm, but half the team is much more than I was thinking. I was thinking McCallum/Landry/filler for Smith/ filler which I think is perfectly reasonable considering we got a much better player in Gay, a player with a ton of similar problems himself, with a bunch of mediocrity going out.

I apologize for the personal insult. Very tense and uncertain times around here and my emotions are running rampant. It's been the most rollercoaster year I could imagine a team having.....and I'm also a Raiders fan. Rough life.
That probably goes for a lot of us today. Let's just move forward.

This firing may or may not stop the Kings from getting to where they need to go.

It's simply too early to tell. We don't don't even know who the real replacement is. We haven't seen one single game under the new coach.

The Kings may emerge from this stronger and better than before or they may fall off a cliff. You simply don't know yet. All this panic, doom, and gloom is way too premature and may end up being out of proportion when we look back on it.
.
It might, but in reality is it a risk which we needed to take...? did we need to risk our immediate future on what appears to be a philosophy argument.

We were winning! It was brilliant... now uncertainly is back, i don't like that.

I'm going to disagree.

As bad as the Maloofs were at the end of their time here, they hired Rick, were patient as the team grew, allowed Petrie to make sound decisions and build a winner and were largely behind putting together a team which was top 5 in the league for multiple seasons, and could have won a ring if not for refs or Webber's knee. The Maloofs ok'd trading JWill for Bibby. Vivek would block that move and/or he has a GM in PDA who'd never consider it. If Vivek was in the Maloof's situation years ago, we'd have never had our true golden era.

Vivek hasn't shown he has anywhere near the ability to build what the Maloofs and Petrie built from 98-04.

I was thinking the same with the trade we coulda gave up our scrubs dwill, Landry, Hollis/jt/evans for smith and it would've been a good trade for us

Lol... so management hears he's coming back on Thursday.. so they dump Malone before he can get another win under his belt. Smooth.

Honestly if the maloofs didn't go broke we still would've been a solid franchise

Had to do it before the team started to win games again I guess. PDA wanted a red Porsche, so he torched the green one he already had.

"Style of play, style of play, style of play." Got it - ok, next question. Press: What about number of wins, isn't that what Vivek said was most important now? "Style of play, style of play, new building coming, new building coming."

Regardless, this mess is on Vivek.

If Vivek wanted PDA as his GM, then he should have let him go get a coach that he wanted. If PDA never wanted Malone, but Malone was already in place, then why the **** would we hire PDA??

And PDA can claim this was his decision, but Vivek signs the checks. Especially with the team showing progress this season, any final decision had to go through him.

This move HAS to work, or the team goes into the crapter again. They essentially just moved up their timeline of needing wins to a year or two to right now.

Let me edit my post, as that is what I meant. My thing is all these people ALWAYS complained about Gavin this and that back then. Look at Vivek now.

Under Gavin's watch, we drafted Tyreke and DeMarcus. I think JT was a decent pick too at #10 was it?

If the firing is totally based on difference in philosophy and not on wins/losses... why didn't he fire Malone in the off season so a new coach can have a full training camp with the players?
And that is the question. My speculation: Malone didn't want to do the idiotic stuff that Vivek and PDA wanted. Maybe they asked him to do just one more thing that he couldn't in good conscience do. That's the philosophical difference.

Also we are all assuming him saying run and gun means small ball. I'm not sure that's the case and I wouldn't call Nellie style small the same thing as putting Derrick Williams at the 4. He was projected as a stretch 4 coming out of college. Nellie would put Ben at the 4 and DWill at the 5. And to his credit he'd get his team to the playoffs year after year.

I don't even want to watch the next Kings game now. It just feels gross. I had a feeling from the beginning that Malone wasn't going to be a particularly popular coach with certain kinds of fans. He's not outgoing or outwardly enthusiastic and he doesn't orchestrate offense all that well. But I liked him right away because he radiates integrity and he knows how to teach defense. And this team was badly in need of both of those qualities. Hiring Malone in the first place was the single decision which allowed me to forgive Vivek's more outrageous basketball-related ideas because I knew he had a basketball lifer on the sideline who believes in defense and fundamental basketball down to his core. Now that the only voice I agreed with has been kicked out of the front office, I can see things going downhill in a hurry.

We had a clear path forward yesterday -- find a couple key guys to make the bench unit functional and keep working on building chemistry together as a unit. What now? I don't even know where the arrow is pointing anymore. All signs are it's pointing in the direction of zero defense gimmick-ball and that makes me sick. I do know that it gets harder and harder year after year with every bad decision for me to continue caring about this team. PDA says he genuinely does read and care about what the fans think? Well I've been a fan of the Kings since I was 10 years old and I feel like I just got punched in the face. Thanks a lot guys. From where I'm seated, I think you could probably stand to care a good deal less about the loudly outspoken and obnoxious minority who love to make their opinions known but don't know the first thing about what it takes to win a basketball game.

Lets be real here, they were as shocked as anyone that this team was winning games. That mantra of winning games coming into the year was the ground work for a coaching change.
