The Orlando Magic have reached an agreement with free agent guard Keyon Dooling, sweetening their offer to four years and an estimated $11 million, according to NBA sources today.

Dooling will sign with the Magic when the league and its players finalize their collective bargaining agreement, which is expected to happen before August 1.

Dooling played as a reserve last season in Miami, where he averaged 5.2 points, 1.8 assists in just 16 minutes.

The Magic originally drafted Dooling in 2000 from the University of Missouri, but they traded his rights with Corey Maggette and Derek Strong as part of a salary cap clearing move.

According to sources, Dooling was promised a "chance to start,'' which is something that he didn't receive in Miami last season.

Orlando is going nowhere this year.
Nope. But their time is coming next summer when they are going to have a Clevelandesque pile of money to throw at people. Seems to happen every so often in Orlando. Of course last time it did not quite work out (the TMac/Hill year).

He ain't a starter either. I think Brick is right, actually. If they tank bad enough this year, they can get a high draft pick and a haul of free agents. If their front office plays it right, they could be back in the mix in a few years.

dooling is another clueless ballhog. francis, hill, dooling and to some extent hedo will all demand the ball and howard will struggle. and i believe this means bad news for jameer nelson who was hoping to start.

Why is Dooling going to a team where *if* he gets to start he will be stuck behind Francis, Howard and Hill? His whole game is predicated on offense, and he's going to be 4th option. I'm not saying he's proven that he's better at this point, but I just don't see him starting with the Magic, and then when they are terrible, he's going to wonder why he's only playing 16 to 20 minutes per game for a terrible team instead of a potential title contender.

Jameer Nelson is better than Dooling, a lot better. What are the Magic thinking? A Dooling + Francis backcourt will be a disaster if that's what they're going with to start the season.

Nelson himself is a big ballhog. I don't like his game one bit, he is only good as a bench player IMO.
