In another deal today, former Clipper Corey Maggette reached agreement to join the Golden State Warriors in a five-year deal worth about $50 million, according to NBA sources who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak about player movements. Maggette also opted out of the last year of his Clippers contract last week.

Apparently the Warriors think they're in win-now mode, but I just can't believe the stupidity of that. They couldn't make the playoffs with last year's roster (after trading away JRich), they lose Baron.... high time to rebuild around your young nucleus of Ellis, Biedrins, Wright and Randolph. Now they have a young nucleus surrounded by shaky character vets (Jackson, Harrington, Maggette).

Why didn't they go after Smith, Deng or Childress???

Makes no sense at all. Mullin probably saved his job with the Baron trade and was saved from his own stupidity by Indiana, but a bad GM can't hide forever.

I agree that this was idiotic, adn that the idiocy can be traced right back to Mullin. Its just blatantly an attempt to save face in the wake of Baron's defection, but it isn't going to get you anywhere. Now they basically have regained JRich, who they gave away for youth, but lost Baron, who was the straw. If you were going to rebuild before you even built, start tearing down the team after the first p[layoff season in a decade, then at least have the guts to continue on rather than making a Kingsesque we-have-to-pretend-to-be-competitive panic move.

Well, I'm referring to the fact that he clashed a lot with Dunleavy and he has tunnel vision on offense. Not an Artest level rap sheet, but he also doesn't have the reputation of a model citizen.

Somehow, I think this is mutual self-destruction. The Warriors and the Clippers somehow may become worse than they were this year.

Perhaps the warriors were afraid that Atlanta would match thereby having nothing to show for the baron davis defection.

I agree though, once baron defected to the clippers it was time to go into full rebuild mode.

I like Maggette, but agree that the Warriors made a bad move with this signing. Honestly it seems like they're trying to get back at the Clippers for prying away Baron

I'm not a big fan o Maggette, but if you look carefully at the team he and Jackson are the two oldest at 29 yrs of age. Harrington is only 27 and everyone else is younger. Jackson has been a model player since he's been there and also he's been one of thier most productive. I believe that Smith, Deng, and Childress are all restricted free agents. I personally would have rather had Smith. I'm not a big fan of Childress. Now if he were to get a haircut.

He clashed with Dunleavy because he wanted to start, and was arguably the Clippers best pure scorer. Never thought he was being utilized properly, even in a 6th man role.

I think the tunnel vision part is accurate, but I think that's more due to the fact that he was being used as a scorer off the bench. Similar to the way the Nuggets use J.R. Rider.

No one is going to call Maggette a "model citizen", but I think it's unfair to refer to him as a "shaky character vet." I think it's somewhere in the middle. And offensive-minded players seem to just love playing for Don Nelson, so I think he'll be okay up there.
