Lukenbill wants kings to stay in Sac

THAT is interesting. From the points that neither the Maloofs or the city have talked to him to the idea that he might try to get an arena built. That WAS the underlying thought, wasn't it? We need one year.

Lukenbill was the genius that brought the Kings to Sacramento. Forbes magazine still says great things about the greater Sacramento area in terms of growth potential and market viability. I think if they ever DO get an arena built in this area, that the NBA will flourish here for many many years to come. That is if the world doesn't end in 2012 that is :-)

He lived next door to my GF in the early 90s, his daughter was roughly my age (attended the same dances) and I sat a few seats from him at a handful of games, all that time I never realized he was so young when he brought the team here. Kind of makes it more impressive. Not at all surprised he wants them to stay.

Obviosuly he would want them to stay given that he was the guy who brought them here in the first place.

LOL. This before or after they listed Sacramento (and four other cities in our area) as the most MISERABLE in the NATION?

That was, in part, based on a losing team in the Kings.

Also, the new census date that has been coming out showed that the Sacramento Region's population grew 20% between 2000 and 2010. That far out-stripped the pace of any other part of California. So it is a growing market.

The Sacramento region grew twice as fast as the rest of the state during the last decade, adding 350,000 residents, an increase of 20 percent, according to Census 2010 figures released Tuesday.

But Sacramento city is not growing nearly as fast as surrounding county of Sac and especially Placer and El Dorado. That remains a big issue - the lack of coordination (or better yet consolidation) of at least some of "2 million population" in the area with paltry 450,000 or so that's under control of Mayor KJ and city council of Sac city.
