Lue for Fred Jones?

Fred Jones has become a hot commodity because of his expiring contract, Frank Isola of the New York Daily News writes, with Sacramento being one team which has expressed interested in the high jumping shooting guard.

According to Isola, the Kings would be willing to trade newly acquired point guard Tyronn Lue to New York.

Jones is another off guard, while he's a good player there are a number of off guards/swingmen on this team

Fred Jones is one of those players, who, after he won the Dunk Contest in 2004, you have to wonder what just happened to him. He displayed much of his value and potential in his younger years with Indiana off the bench--but ever since he got cast into that blistering cesspool that has come to be known as the New York Knicks, he started becoming irrelevant, getting sporadic minutes and not showing much in way of efficiency. There are many things to like about Jones--he carries a great strength, speed, athleticism and wingspan combination, and as for skills he already packs in a solid foundation of slashing, jumpshooting and defensive ability. But I get the feeling, and I just don't why--he suppresses himself, much like Antonio Daniels. Sort of plays for the team's sake, rather than for his own--and casts himself very much as a role player. The skills, the tools are all there, but I think he chose to take this path as a role player, and while he's still very useful as one given that he's on the right team, sometimes you get the feeling he can do more than what he currently does.

As for a Kings fit, I think we can take a gamble on him...Fred Jones definitely has more talent and is younger than Lue, and we need to get rid of the glut of PGs seeing that Anthony Johnson's getting the minutes behind Udrih. I don't like the fact that Douby's getting less PT, and Fred Jones, as an undersized OG, may definitely cut further into that playing time. However, as an expiring contract and a temporary reprieve for production at least for this season, Jones can be a solid investment. We'll see how he plays out, and if he impresses with highlight reels and/or solid contributions, maybe he can get a new contract. However, if we do get Jones, our glut of wings or wings-wanna-bes means that one of our guys (Artest? Salmons? Garcia?) probably has to go.

I think Lue will be traded and I think that's why he is not playing. I think it's just a coincidence that he happened to strain a calf his first day of practice

It's possible to strain a calf in ANY practice, and Lue has been pretty injury prone during his career...that being said...yeah, it is a little fishy that 'coincidentally' happened, and I do think he will be moved by 1pm today.:D

Exactly. This deal is pointless unless we're getting a 2nd rounder (no reason for NY).
yeah, I'd rather keep Lue than get Jones, at least Lue can back up at the point, in case Johnson(or Beno for that matter) gets hurt or something, Jones would just add to the logjam at the end of the bench we already have at the 2/3 spots. Pointless trade.
