I agree, it cant be give the ball to cuz at the high or low post and watch. I imagine malone will get cousins rolling to the hoop more off of PnRs so he can have some space to create or dish like the spurs do with splitter and duncan, with zone defenses you really cant expect a center to play back to the basket or go 1v1 all game like you use too.
Yes, I'd just like for there to be more of a Spurs offense in which Cousins gets hit by the pass while on the move. He can then either take the short 5-10 footer or pass to a guy on the wing if he's covered. If he just gets the ball while he's standing there in a post up position I think the offense will suffer.

Not really the right way to think about it. Cousins isn't a Dwight Howard who can only score from the right block or in transition. The beauty of Cousins' game is that he can beat almost any matchup. If he gets matched up with a paint clogger like Dalembert, he can shoot over him from mid, or blow by him on the closeout. If he gets matched up with a Bosh, he can push him around down low. The only guys that really give him trouble at all are the mobile bruisers like Pekovic who can close on his jumper and keep him out of the paint down low. There are maybe three guys in the league like that, though.

With Evans gone, Cousins is the future of the franchise. If you want to win long-term, you teach him how to beat defenses and let players settle into roles around him.

His post up offense isn't good enough to start from a stationary position and get the ball with his back to the basket and go to work. You make it easier on the D to get prepared for him in that situation. If you want to get him easier shots, you get it to him on the move where his strength can be used that much more, or you get him to run down the floor and get as deep as possilbe in the paint for an easy chipee before the defense can set up. If Cousins' defender is squared up on him, it's much easier for that defender than if that defender is at an angle to Cousins while Cousins is going to the basket. Also, a moving Cousins is more difficult to double team. If you want to get the easiest shots possible for Cousins, you pass to him while he's in motion.

agreed. there's nothing wrong with hitting cousins in motion from time to time, but the focus of the offense should be in posting DMC on the low block. his post-up game isn't terribly refined, but it is powerful, and he can hit the short range jumper out of the low block, as well:

with the proper coaching, he'll be an absolute monster down low...

man i haven't seen the Kings play in a few months so i forgot how much of a beast DMC is. hopefully he can get his act together under this new regime, because if he does its going to be something special to see

Wow. one of the things that stands out to me just from the first couple minutes of that first video is how Cousins manages to succeed despite some glaring weaknesses both from the team (poor spacing/positioning/execution) and himself (poor screens, weak finishing). If the new coaching staff and personnel can improve the former and convince Cousins to make progress on the latter... watch out!

indeed. the success of this team is now, for better or worse, completely dependent upon the coaching staff's ability to take DMC's raw physical gifts and mold them into star-level skills. cousins is a smart kid, deeply intuitive, and immensely talented. if mike malone earns his trust, it will go a long way towards the development of cousins' post game. he'll have to be held accountable for his weaknesses, because it's the only way the kings start winning...
