Locked into 4 seed ??

I'll be posting my first season projections in the next week or so, it takes about 40% of a season to get to where you can reasonably project the rest.

But looking at Phoenix I am starting to think the Kings are locked into the 4 seed. I am assuming they are still using the system where the winner of each division is a 1 2 or 3 seed.

So it may be the Kings get to late season and for once have nothing to fight for, which might actually be good in terms of resting players.

way too early to make hat assumption. Kings are fullycapible of putting to gether a long win streak and moving into the 2 or 3 slot wih no problem at all. Or dropping a a few and setteling down in the 5 or 6...

Potentially, but I think that the team with the best record will end up getting homecourt advantage no matter the seed, so even if the Kings get stuck behind a ridiculously hot Suns team, they want to chase the other two division winners in the event they have to face such teams in the WCF.

Excellent point, 4cwebb!!! The seeding will do nothing but determine who plays who in the various rounds. It has nothing to do with home court advantage. Even if we remain behind Phoenix, we could conceivably have a better record than the 1st place winners in the other divisions, especially because Seattle has yet to have their annual "fade".

And, like the Celt says, we could fall to a lower position. Nothing is "a lock". Kings still have a lot of business to take care of.

i agree, its way too early.

minni is struggling right now, but they could easily get back on track and put us down a spot. plus we have too many games left against phoenix, dallas, minni, etc before you can get a clear idea of where the kings will finish in the top 8.

Its way too early, every tram will have their slump or losing streak. Sonics are getting on eright now, sooner or later the Spurs and the Suns will have one too.

I really doubt the Spurs will have any slump late in the season. Suns and Sonics for sure. But baring injuries to their mvp, they will be playing tight heading into the playoff. For me, a 2nd seed is desirable, but a 3rd or 4th seed still is satisfiable, as long as the hca is there.

Speaking of slumps late in the season, the Kings 03-04 ended the year losing something like 10 of the last 12 or 12 of 15. In 02-03 the finished on a big win streak and coulda-shoulda won it all. This year the Kings had an early season win streak, which I discount due to it being so early in the season.

If Adelman has to push the starting 5 to 35-40+ min a night just to beat a 5-26 team (barely) after they could not beat a 11-22 team, you have to wonder if they can even beat a 2-29 team.

The last 15-20 games of the regular season will determine the Kings seeding. Catching the Suns will be tough. But it is hard to image them keeping their streak going much longer. Seattle is beginning to wait for the Kings. Now if the Suns will do the same and the Kings get some production off the bench, there is hope for a higher seeding.

Well said. Hopefully this year we wont go into any slump at the end, that really threw everything off and screwed us up at the worst time possible.

We just went in a slump because Webber came in late. Then we lost like 8 out of 16 games or something like that. i agree that did throw us off really bad.

Well I agree that we could make a run but my point was that if it's like it was before, the leader of each division gets a top/1st round HC seed. With 3 divisions that means the 1, 2 and 3 seeds go to each division leader. So unless we overtake Phoenix we can't do better than #4.

it is still way too early for these kinda predictions, cuz lets face it, sh** happens in the nba. but, if i were to participate in such a prediction (;)), then i would say 4th is probably right about where the kings will land. phoenix, SA, and seattle will all be fighting for the 1 spot by the end of the regular season, barring any major injury losses in the next coupla months. i imagine they will all have their bad games, but thru 2 months, each of those 3 teams has played too damn well and too damn consistently for me to say that they will fall off the radar. it just aint gonna happen. we're gonna get stuck playing dallas in the first round again, and minny in the second, or vice versa. (granted, thats if we make it that far. and i believe we will) go kings!!!

Wait, Im trying to understand the new scheme this year. If we are 4th, we play the first series with the home court advantage. But say we win, and the 2nd seed wins. If we have a better reg. season record than the 2nd seed, even though we are 4th do we get home court against them or not?

Yes...

The three division winners automatically get the top 3 seeds, so if Phoenix wins the Pacific, Kings can only get the 4th seed or worse. Home court is always based on record, not seeding, so if Kings have 2nd best record they get home-court advantage against everybody but the #1 team.

My prediction............the team that eventually wins the Championship will have to win games on the road, no matter the seed. I'm more concerned with Match-ups in the post season than anything else, and it's way too early to determine those from the current standings.
