Lil Walker?

The WNBA.com Offseason Blog

Finally this weekend... a rumor is floating around the league about an All-Star out West who may or may not be pregnant. Until this is confirmed or denied, we'll leave it up to you to guess just who we're talking about.

http://www.wnba.com/voices/offseasonblog.html

Despite early speculation that the player in question was the newly married Lisa Leslie, it now seems to be all but confirmed that it is in fact our very own Miss DeMya Walker who is expecting. This is of course gossip courtesy of some posters at another board who consistantly provide inside info on the league.

So, congrats to DeMya! (If it is her) But boy will we miss her! And, of course, the season is starting earlier than normal...so that will have an effect on her return status.

Well, if it *IS* her, then congratulations. I wonder who the father is, though.

BTW, is DeMya married? Or does her "significant other" also play b-ball?

This was so unexpected, when I read it on wnba.com. If it is DWalk then aww!! Congrats mama!!! That's great news! but not so great for the Monarchs. But, it might not be DeMya, it could very well be Lisa Leslie, she just got married... honeymoon?! like we all don't know what goes down there.
StevenHW, DeMya has a boyfriend, Ben Perkins. Mr. Sexy, that was with her at the Meet The Monarchs gathering, he sat with her niece Khia beside the Monarchs bench for the majority of the season. he plays basketball overseas.

I was over at ARCO after work today and had a nice chat with Yo. She didn't say anything about DeMya, but I don't suppose she would say anything if she knew anyway. She did mention that both Ticha and DeMya are over playing in Russia.

Yo's knee has finally been rehabilitated. She is headed to Russia in a matter of days where she will play for about a month and then be home for the Christmas holidays.

And where is that "another board" located? Is it RebKell?

Due in April

It's true.....just got this from my ticket rep:

MONARCHS FORWARD DEMYA WALKER ANNOUNCES SHE'S HAVING A BABY
Walker is Due in April

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., NOV. 15, 2005 - Sacramento Monarchs forward DeMya
Walker announces that she is having a baby and is due in April. Walker
is both thrilled and excited and plans to be back and ready to go for
the Monarchs 10th Anniversary season in 2006.

"I'm very excited about having a baby," said Walker. "Being a mother
is something I'm really looking forward to."

Walker recently finished her third season with the Monarchs after being
selected by the franchise as the fifth overall pick in the 2003 WNBA
Dispersal Draft. Despite having to sit out 12 games this past season due
to a right knee injury, Walker led the Monarchs averaging 14.1 points
per game. She appeared in 22 games with 19 starts and also averaged 5.3
rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.6 blocks and 27.2 minutes per
game. Additionally, the 2005 WNBA All-Star selection was an integral part
of the Monarchs winning their first ever WNBA Championship.

Be a part of the Monarchs 10th Anniversary season. 2006 Sacramento
Monarchs Season Tickets are on sale now, please call (916) 419-WNBA. For
more information, please visit the Monarchs website at

I don't think its odd that there is no mention of the father in this press release, the Monarchs front office just probably wanted to have a quote from her sounding motherly and being excited and saying she plans to play next season.

If the press release is from the Monarchs (or the WNBA) themselves, I doubt they will publicly mention the father's name. However, I have a hunch that the SacBee and other news sources are going to ask who the father is. The obvious guess is her boyfriend, Ben Perkins.

If DeMya's kid is due in April, how will this affect the Monarchs? The WNBA draft is usually held in mid-April, and the M's current players, their 2006 draft picks, free-agent signings, and tryout invitees are going to begin for the pre-season. But I don't know when practice sessions actually begin. And will DeMya be in playing shape when training camp rolls around?

Playing shape when camps open? She won't have done anything even remotely resembling playing basketball for a while, and then there's the whole carrying another human being around for 9 months thing to consider as well as giving birth. I'm sure she's determined to come back and play next year, but if she gives birth and shows up a week or two later to open camp, I'm going to be completely and utterly shocked enough to eat a hat or something. That would just seem completely incomprehensible beyond anything Tina Thompson did this year. We may see her for the ring ceremony, but she can't possibly be in uniform until much later in the season.

Yeah, probably a mid-season return for DeMya. I don't know what training camp is going to be like this season. Because of the world championships, the season is starting a few weeks earlier than usual. Who knows who will even be back from their overseas commitments...

At least DeMya is due in April! Last season Tina Thompson had her baby in May and was able to come back by July 21st.

Again, congrats to DeMya!

Well, according to this article I found a few months back I guess it is. :D

«I want to have a lot of sons!» They are going to get married officially in a year. And now they just miss each other very much and talk every day by Internet. The couple has bought a house in Houston, Texas. There five bed rooms in the house. — I dream to have a lot of children but only boys. My height is 193 cm and Ben's — 201 cm, imagine our daughter, no boys are better.

Congrats

I know I should be happy for them but I am a selffish DeMya Walker Fan. I want her on the court.

On the other hand I think she will be a great parent. So congrats to Ben and DWalk.

But this time take your time DeMya. Don't rush back... Take Care of yourself and Lil DWalk Perkins.
