If you want to point to the hiring of Karl as the end result dysfunction I won't argue with you there. That was a decision made in the media that got forced on ownership if you ask me. As for the firing of George that was an understandable decision with two clear sides. I personally felt he should go but I understand the considerations both financially and in terms of stability that led to at best giving him a chance to right the ship or at worst making him comfortable saying some final goodbyes before taking him Upstate to the farm with all the other old coaches. But most importantly they're still common factor in both these situations and his name is George. You know the guy we found in the parking lot with this sign that said will coach for food. You mean the coach that was about to be fired, until ownership disputes get in the way? (similar to the bizarrely drawn-out process when said coach was hired?).
Isn't this true of any assistant coach though? This isn't the military, it's a basketball team. Presumably you hire assistant coaches so you can delegate responsibilities and take advantage of their expertise. If Vivek passes Nancy in the hallway and asks "how's it going in the locker room" and she says "not so good Vivek..." that's not a breach of the chain of command, it's a co-worker giving their honest opinion. Sweeping problems under the rug doesn't help anybody. If something isn't working mature people talk about it and figure out a solution. I can see why George Karl might feel threatened if he feels like one of his assistant coaches has a better relationship with the owner than he does -- particularly when there were already reports mid-season that Nancy might be Vivek's preference to take over if George Karl is fired. But if there are real problems in the locker room, the right thing to do is to get them out in the open and fix them. "Keep it in house" shouldn't extend to coaches hiding things from the owner of the team. And whatever the underlying cause might be, "unofficial exile" is not a mature or appropriate response.
This organization is a lot more messed up than most people think.
I don't know if that is even possible.
Well put. Almost poetic.I agree with you in theory but we don't know the specifics of what transpired that led to this "unofficial exile". We can only speculate. One thing I can say in defense of Karl is he was receptive enough to bring in Thibs for 3-4 days as consultant. That does not seem someone threatened by another high status coach or differing opinion. So where his relationship with Nancy took a negative turn is speculative.
Regardless Karl has lost it. He doesn't have passion or energy or voice to coach in the NBA. The health issues have rendered him impotent. The vitality is barely palpable and the fire in the belly is a flicker. He said time away from game had rejuvenated him. This was misrepresentation to secure $12 million. Karl on the sidelines of a NBA game reminds of an old guy sitting on a park bench feeding the birds. The only thing he is missing is the bread crumbs. And the birds.
Everyone knows what is going on because everyone can see it. He's a feeble guy. This has led to lack of confidence from top to bottom. A team takes on the persona of its coach and this team reflects that: lifeless. This performance has opened him to second guessing and relationship turmoil that perhaps would not otherwise exist. He wouldn't be more liked necessarily if he was more energized. But he would be more respected. Bottom line it is a cluster f**k that should have ended months ago but will end soon enough.
I just assume they're employed by Karl's agent. Obviously I have no factual reason to believe this or to support this claim nor do I even assume it's actually true. It just helps me cope with the insanityThe Karl apologist on this board are making me sick! The cult like blind faith is disturbing.
I just saw the article about this on STR. No team can win under these circumstances. You hire a coach at 4.5 mil a year and allow him to be undermined. Yes I know Karl is probably not mother Teresa. But you should know what you are getting going in and be prepared to work with that. Then you have this dynamic of hiring a woman in a man's league. She falls out of favor with Karl and she should be fired or disciplined. But how can you fire her? It would look sexist. But I think if it comes down firing Lieberman or Walberg, you have to fire Lieberman, right? I mean you almost publicly fire the HC but keep him. Then you fire his trusted assistant and keep the coach on the outs. Then it all gets laid out for the world to see. This should be filed under "How to undermine any authority in your organization". Mismanagement is all that can be said.
I am ignoring everything that has to do with Karl or Cousins. No matter the source of the info, it is getting irrational. How many years can we discuss the same subjects? I have no interest in Karl and am totally worn out on player tirades.
Carry on.
Considering how smart Vivek wanted everyone to think he is, it is just absolutely mind boggling what a mess he's turned this team into. Every time I think of how he fired Malone, it makes me hate him all over again.

Wish Vivek could use some of his touted Big Bang like nerd powers to build a damn time machine and tell his past self to chill the eff out and let Malone do his thing and kick to the curb Flat Top and Rat Boy.+1 billion
