Now they will get the right coach to really let the genius of Isaiah Thomas shine through.

Phil Jackson has always wanted to coach the Knicks. He has never built a championship team but if they get him, the Knicks would be an instant hit.

I'll agree with part of this assessment. It's been widely speculated that if PJ surfaced anywhere again it would be in New York, one of the few cities big enough for his ego. I won't be surprised if he's next on the Knicks list at all.

Hey NY is an ugy croud. Folks are paying $1,900 for court side seats and need someone to blame. Given the bloated contracts they hold trades are not likely so... bye bye Lenny. Iwould hate to be the next guy they hire.

I want to see Phil Jackson walk into that quagmire. :D

If he can pull a championship team out of that mess, I might have to reevaluate my long-standing opinion of him.

But will he? I doubt it.

To get paid the kind of money coaches get paid these days, to be around the NBA, all that goes with it? You'd be crazy to turn it down.

I would go for him if I were Thomas. He's not a builder though. I doubt he'd want to take on the challenge.

For any coach who has not already cemented his rep that crew of over paid knuckel heads will be the kiss of death for his career. Which is why smart young coachaes like Muscelamn will steer clear. You may be right that PJ will get the call, but I would be both supprised and impressed if PJ actuly took the job. PJ has NEVER coached a team that did not have a big advantage on the competiton, so unless the Knics can trade for Wade, Shaq and Oakafor just don't see it. Not sure who will get the job but like I siad it is likely to be someone who has made his bones already.

Phil is the logical next step for the coaching position at NY. If might just be me, but I really think NY could be pretty good. Of course, this is assuming that they trade both of the Thomas' for a decent/good big man. I silently root for the Knicks for no other reason than that I like the city. Actually, to tell you the truth, Denver is the overall best fit for the Zen Master. Loads of talent just needing coaxing before they become big time contenders.

PT - Do you really think Phil Jackson will walk into a situation like New York? After all, they don't even have a superstar or two in their line-up. Their payroll exceeds some third-world countries.

There just isn't any motivation IMHO for PJ to go in there and risk ruining his reputation and win/loss record. And he certainly doesn't need the money.

;)

I say what I say assuming that Isiah is going to ship Kurt and/or Tim Thomas out of town for a decent big like Jamaal Magloire or Nene. They have their playmaker in place, who can penetrate almost at will and then dish it out to the perimeter to his two shooters, but those are his only options. They need someone who can clear out lanes for Marbury, grab rebounds for their shooter's misses, and also provide some semblance of a post-presence. Think Seattle, but better. ;) I believe that's a situation that Phil would willingly walk into.

Marbury <<< Kobe
Nene/Magliore <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Shaq

Phil better think long and hard about whether he really wants this one.

Plus the guy recently had a heart attack. Coaching a NY pro team is not good for the old ticker. Of course, if he can stay calm while 10 million NYers are screaming for his blood, he really is the Zenmaster.
