Lebron explodes for 56pts...

Kajun

G-League
...yet the Cavs lose to the Raptors (thanks to Rose' 30 pts and Marshall's 24 pts). LeBron took 36 shots (!), Gooden 16, Z 15. Combined they accounted for 82.7% of Cavs's shots.

Impressive statline though:
56 PTS (FG 18-36, 3P FG 6-12, FT 14-15), 10 REB, 5 Assists, 2ST.

Or in terms of John Hollinger's (more descriptive) stats:

EFG (Effective FG) % = (2PM + 1.5*3PM) / FGA = (12 + 1.5*6) / 36 = 0.583
TS (True Shooting) % = Pts/(2*(FGA + (.44*FTA))) = 56 / (2*(36 + 0.44*15))= 0.657

I can't imagine what he will do in a next few years. He is awesome.I am not his fan,but congratulations for this game!

Too bad they lost?? no, that's great news for the Bulls :D
they still have the chance to take the 5th or possibly even 4th seed (although its unlikely)

ooo intresting. too bad they lost

we can check that off the "what kobe has done that lebron hasn't done yet" list that garamel had on the lebron/wade/kobe thread :D ;)

He is more like MJ than I ever immagined :)

Look for 'Bron 'Bron to win his first rings after his 28th birthday, if ever.

No you can't. I never listed "score 50 points en route to a loss".

bottomline is he scored 56 points

Bottom line is that his team lost while scoring 50+...which actually would make him more Jordanesque than Kobesque. Jordan did that a handful of times while Kobe only did it once and got villified about it afterwards.

People are stupid by nature. Save for Laker fans.

Ah ha ha. Oooooooh boy...

Btw, NBA TV's take (like I suspected) was that his team lost because his teammates were standing around watching his brilliance. When Kobe scored 51 against GS in an OT loss, it was, Kobe's team lost because he got drawn into an individual scoring contest. I think you're right, KA_2.

edit: PS - exclude KOBE 2.0/Lakerman8 from your statement above. That is one pitiful waste of oxygen of a Laker fan, although he can't help that one of his hemispheres was missing at birth.

This summer, the Cavs can be $18-19 million under the cap. If they don't spend it wisely and get him a decent supporting cast, I think he leaves in the summer of '07.

you can put the scoring 50 points on there :D

he's also the youngest to do it, pretty impressive, even if it was in a loss. only 36 shots needed.

Well of course, KOBE2.0/Lakerman8 is a whole other breed of ignoramus.

Okay, let me see if I have this right: Two Laker fans are posting on a Kings board and dumping on Laker fans from a Laker board?

They come here to find the more intelligent fans. ;)

I think Kobe was something like 2-10 in the fourth quarter of that game, while Jamison was 9-9. Different scenario.

And when you're playing with the reigning MVP and most dominant player in the game, you shouldn't lose to the Golden State Warriors, and you certainly shouldn't lose if you put up 51 points.

Besides, you know that Kobe is the media whipping boy, and has been for years. But you have to admit that there's a big difference between LeBron's situation and Kobe's situation.

No I don't. Given the same scenario (18-36 in a loss), Kobe would be criticized. Guarantee it. You'd get the ol "doesn't make Chucky Atkins and Brian Grant better" spiel like over in the Laker/Jazz thread.

"Making teammates better" is the most overused and overhyped catchphrase, and is generally a poor analysis of the faults of certain superstars. If you don't have good teammates you're not going to turn them into great players, period. This isn't like Jordan making his teammates better as he won 6 titles. He didn't make Pippen or Rodman better into annual DPOY candidates and rebounding champions with his magic wand. Rodman was already a multiple DPOY/rebounding champion with the Pistons/Spurs and Pippen was already a great defender/good scorer in college. You put Kobe or AI with a prime Pippen and Rodman and some good coaching and you're going to win championships, and it'll have nothing to do with making your teammates better.

Few players make their teammates better via brilliant passing, which is generally what people mean when they say someone "makes their teammates better". Very few PGs in history have been able to elevate entire teams with their passing. And believe it or not, but any superstar that draws defensive attention away from his teammates makes them better by default.

Yes, Rodman had done those things, but years earlier in his career. He was a headcase when he joined the Bulls, and it's been openly acknowledged that Jordan was the guy who reigned him in.

And saying that Pippen was a great defender/good scorer in college is a tad misleading, as if he played at Duke or UNC. Where did he go to school? Central Arkansas (or somewhere similar) where his competition on a nightly basis consisted largely of players with 1/50th of the talent.

I'd agree with some points of your assessment, though, and I'd grant that Kobe isn't getting the fairest of shakes in the "making teammates" better arena, but it's just year 1 of the Kobe-all-by-his-lonesome experiment. He's got plenty of time to prove his doubters wrong.
