larry brown wants to coach again

No! The timing of this article makes me believe it is his way of saying, "I want to coach the NY Knicks again". Thomas is obviously on the way out, and this would give Coach Brown the ultimate big market gig. I know they fired him, but things have done from bad to apocalyptic. It won't happen, but I would love to see the fan reaction if it did.

if he wants to win another championship (or at least contentd for it) he should go with the kings. the knicks are in complete tear down gear. removing Isaiah isnt enough, they have to wipe out everyone from the starting lineup to the waterboys. the kings' younger guys are developing pretty well. no doubt we'll have a winning record next year if we sign brown

Brown is one of those coaches that works with only a certain type of team with a certain type of mindset. Often times he clashes with players - he is also famous for abandoning teams at whim and for conflicts with players. Brown is the type of coach that is perfect for college but too overbearing for NBA egos. The style he coaches - low possession, no creativity on offense, complete defensive focus - has given him some success but also limited his teams in the sense that it doesn't do much to get the most out of its offensive players.

Good for Larry!

...just not here. This isn't the team for him at this point. Prior to Muss would have been the best situation for him. This team is years away from serious contention.

i disagree. i said the celtics are years away from contention. until they signed garnett. teams can change in the blink of an eye. i think brown would be perfect for this team. he's a defensive coach, we have ron artest, kevin martin is our rip hamilton, beno is our chauncey. why not?

Larry needs to...just go away. He has turned into a passive-aggressive egomaniacal monster in his later years, and his years are late.

And certainly not here.

And its almost impossible to see in New York either -- you never know what wacky conditions an idiot like Dolan might have agreed too, but the roster hates Larry and is largely unmoveable, and if he showed his face back in this town the fans would probably stone him. Not to mention of course things got very personal wiht Dolan the east time Larry stole his money. This being the Knicks you never know, and the timing really could mean maybe Larry is looking to get a free ride back from Walsh. But then again, maybe not -- the season is almost over, and there will be more than one struggling team looking for a new coach in a few weeks. I doubt that will include us.

Beno is our what??

And Ron...you do remember who was the coach on the opposing sidelines when ron went nutso in the Palace right?

I love Larry from way back when I was in New Orleans and he was the rookie starting point guard for the New Orleans Buccaneers in the first year of the ABA, but I agree with Spike.

Pass.

Reggie will do just fine, and defense is the hardest thing to bring along. Reggie is still riding the negative wave of momentum from the last couple years of poor D. But he has taken the first step, getting increased hustle on D, utilizing more zone D (which has led to significant D runs in games that gave us wins), and overall better rotations, although that still needs tons of work.

On the first step that starts the rotations, covering a screen and roll attempt, I still feel that our bigs are not trusting enough (of who is covering behind them) in holding their doubles on guards at the top to make them pick up their dribbles first or turn away from the basket before releasing to get back on their men. Almost every time they hold, unless a superior to miracle pass is made, the Kings wind up giving the opposition problems in scoring on that possession.

you make it sound like they had a fist brawl themselves. he's an aggressive coach, ron is an aggressive player. which is why i think itll be a perfect combination. can you name a college coach that has come to the NBA and won a title in his 1st 3 years? enfourcing curfews, calling timeouts with a 40 point deficit in the 4th doesnt make you a coach. pulling rookies after 2 minutes of playing time for 1 mistake doesnt make you a coach. having a dry erase board doesnt make you a coach. i would kill to see what those dry erase boards look like in those huddles. the angle he's taking is just ridiculous.

you're a glass half-full kinda person, aren't ya? :p

Anybody else notice that Kevin Martin went from being "Lightswitch" to consistent improvement, ever since Reggie took it upon himself to be a personal mentor? Reggie's a keeper.

I noticed that too. I think Reggie should stick around because he has potential to do greater things than what we've seen this season and the Kevin's improving consistensy is just a preview of his coaching abilities.

Wow....... Someone has their beer goggles on a bit early in the day. Why not give Theus a chance before we bring in a 100 year old man to replace him.

100-year-old, cranky man, whose last two bosses had to pay him millions to NOT coach.

"BEING YELLOW DOESN'T MAKE IT LEMONADE"

And being Larry Brown doesn't make him chocolate.

Even a year ago, I wasn't desperate enough to consider that. I don't know whether he's right for any team at this point, but I don't think he's right for ours.

Besides, we're still paying Muss, Reggie hasn't bombed, Reggie seems to be well-liked by the Maloofs, and I have a very hard time imagining him being replaced any time soon. He may be pretty awful at playing the kids, and the pointless garbage time timeouts are kind of annoying, but he doesn't seem to be terrible at the basics. I would be in favor of hiring a consultant (Rudy T?) to help him improve and overcome his bad habits, but I don't think anything more extreme than that would be justified. He's a rookie as far as the NBA's concerned, and, like a rookie player, deserves a chance to learn and develop. Even if he, himself, doesn't seem to believe it's important to let rookies learn and develop...

no. he doesnt know the basics. you said he's just having a tough time playing the kids. but what does he do when they're in the game? yanks them after a few minutes. he's also having a hard time understanding that we cant run plays through mikki moore. and set up shots for garcia with 3 seconds left on the shotclock. the guy is a moron.

wish i knew how to add a poll to this thread. some are actually satisfied with reggie and dont want him replaced??? good grief

We can put up a Reggie poll if you want? I was going to wait until after the season to do it, but the other Reggie polls were pretty much 80% in favor and 18% undecided, and 2% against....

That's a pretty damn good approval rating. I think it might have fallen a bit, but I don't think people are looking to get rid of him like you want. Your ideas about wanting Brown are just..... well.. you know.. Why not bring in Margaret Thatcher as the GM, Larry Brown to coach, and the ghosts of Larry Moe and Curly to assist.
