Larry Bird wants $5 Mil and Part of the Team?

Anyone know what Petrie makes/made?

I read recently in the Bee that Petrie was making $1 million/yr. At the beginning of his tenure, Petrie was making 500K/yr.

I had a dream last night that I went into what looked to be a Quiznos for lunch, somewhere in the greater Sacramento area. Eating in the corner was Bird, Russell, Jerry Reynolds and slew of private security and a minority owner. Larry knew my first name, asked me to sit down with them. They had special meals ordered with tasters (I guess they were afraid of being poisoned) they order something for me. We prayed (that was odd, I'm not religious). I asked asked the table a simple "how's everything going" to which Larry replied, I know what you want to know and I wont say anything. We ate, had some small talk, I had to get back to work and I was escorted to my car by the minority owner. He assured me they were doing everything they could, but went no further than that.

I don't know why Larry Bird knew me and why they had secret service style private security.

I have to stop reading this site and twitter right before bed.

I think people are getting way too caught up in the "did he rebuild or did he wait too long" debate regarding Bird's record. The fact of the matter is that the Kings have a potentially winning core right now in Tyreke and Demarcus, who are 23 and 22 respectively. We won't have to rebuild and tank for a very long time, probably past Bird's desirable length of tenure.

The question I'm asking when it comes to Larry Bird is if he can build a winner around Tyreke and Demarcus with complementary pieces. I'm looking at his draft record, his trade record, and his FA record, and I have zero doubts in his ability to do so. Paul George at pick #10? Roy Hibbert at pick #16? Lance Stevenson at #40? Yes PLEASE!

And I think this is exactly the right mindset to have. Bird has an eye for talent just as Petrie did but he also has a much greater willingness to wheel and deal in order to make pieces fit. And that's exactly what the Kings need right now - to clear out some mismatched parts and bring back cogs and gears that will mesh. Bird's highest draft pick with the Pacers was #10 when he picked up George. Other Bird picks include Granger, Hibbert, Stephenson, Hansbrough. He also drafted Jerryd Bayless and Kawhi Leonard but we can assume they were not his picks since they were dealt in draft day trades. His worst draft picks were probably his gamble on big man project David Harrison (29th pick) who never developed and Shawne Williams (17th pick) who was a talented and promising prospect whose threw away his career with poor discipline and drug related arrests.

I think Bird could shape this roster pretty quickly and efficiently. And I have a LOT more confidence in his drafting skills than Wallace.

So let's take a guess and say that his paycut wasn't more than 50%. So at most then he would be making $2 million/year at his peak.

I believe what's really making this franchise attractive is Vivek's plan for globalization of the Kings brand. That's the real game changer and the smart ones know it. Larry is smart.

Go tell CP3 that LBird agreed to sign as our GM and go tell Larry we got CP3 agreed to sign with us. Then signed both at the same time and we got superstar/gm in one CON move. Just need to prevent communication between the two until the deal is done.
