Larry Bird wants $5 Mil and Part of the Team?

Even if we don't get Larry Bird, the fact that we're talking to him has to make some people say "Those guys in Sacramento are serious." Gotta be a good thing. (And if we do get him, even better.) Go Vivek!

I love Leslie, but I hate hearing that we will get Bird when pigs fly.... I can just see hundreds of Sacramento farmers throwing pigs with wings off of the barn roof!

Why would she say that if Vivek just met him and the discussion went so far as terms?

Could she be saying that Vescey is full of sh*t - maybe Vivek told her "yeah Larry and I talked, and we talked money, but this 'percent of team' stuff is invented by Vescey"?

It would appear she is debunking Vescey's story.

Yeah, that would annoy me if this all was a ruse, Vescey, to the many who have rehashed this story.. It sounded funny to me because I believe Bird left Indiana on his own volition, and some say he only wanted to remain there if he were to return

She is Vivek's PR person saying it's not true about the meeting.

Yes.

Leslie is clever and apparently an approved clever mouthpiece. I like her now that I know who she is.

Sounds like she is saying pigs are flying we may get bird.

That's a very optimistic interpretation.

The only question in my mind about her text is whether it's "Larry Bird will get $5 mil and a piece of the team when pigs fly" or "Larry Bird will be the GM of the Kings when pigs fly".

But again, if at the very least Vivek is meeting with guys it gives him a few different viewpoints on what people would do to get the Kings competitive again which is a good thing. And he's taking the right approach of going after candidates who have had sustained success with smaller market teams.

And I'd vastly prefer Bird to Wallace. Instant credibility and more importantly a very solid track record both in the draft and in terms of trades and acquisitions.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Why would she nip a high profile GM search in the butt? That makes no sense. The publicity of this alone helps us. Going on twitter and basically saying, yeah right, us getting Brid is the equivalent to pigs flying would not be a smart PR move. Not at all. Actually, it'd be the opposite.

Has anyone other than Vescy and his parrot confirmed that a meeting with Bird DID take place? It sounds to me that the WHOLE story was made up by Vescey.

well she also retweeted this when a follower suggested vecey was full of it. looks like there was no meeting with bird.

So umm.
I really, really, REALLY like having Leslie Moore out there to subtly shoot down stupid rumors. It's such a nice change from the ever-popular "no comment" we've been having to settle for.

She seems to be saying that just because Vescey said something, it's not necessarily true.

Time will tell whether she is calling BS on the reported compensation package Bird requires or the prospect of meeting/getting with Bird altogether. Hopefully the compensation piece is the only BS from Vescey

Larry did a great job making the Pacers a top team in the East. And considering he did it in a small market make me optimistic that if he joined our team, he'd be able to create something special here for Sacramento.

Actually, I don't know what she's implying or what she apparently shot down.

That Vivek had a meeting with Bird? That Bird is interested? Or that Bird wants part ownership of the team?

From Jason Jones:

Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive has been in conversations with NBA legend Larry Bird about a role in running basketball operations, The Bee has learned.

But contrary to a report earlier today, Ranadive did not meet with Bird today.

Ranadive continues to explore candidates to replace basketball president Geoff Petrie, whose contract expires at the end of the month.

Bird had been a coach and executive with the Indiana Pacers. Bird brought in many of the players that were a part of this season’s Pacers that lost in seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Kings have also had discussions about bringing in former star Chris Webber to the organization in some role. Webber is not a candidate to be the team’s general manager.

Still, if talks with Vivek and Bird were substantial, or there was a meeting for a different day, I don't know if Vivek's PR rep would have came out as strong as she did, which is disappointing (pigs flying?). I normally don't care about rumors at all, or hacks like Vecsey/Bucher/Amico etc., but this one came right at our achilles hill, the GM situation and the pool of candidates we are faced with.. Bird offered an escape.

Wow, didn't dare dream this could happen. I sure wouldn't hesitate to give Larry anything he wanted, hell, giving him a piece of the team would just make him more vested in the team and area. A proven GM who has been the best as a player, coach, and exec? Yes please.

But sadly, looks like just another rumor atm :*(*

I was actually following her before I ever knew who she was because I was following all sorts of people while the Kings/Seattle saga was happening. Started following her because she had very witty and thought provoking comments on twitter not knowing who she was. She is very cool!
