Do you guys think the fact that this is Landry's contract year has any effect on the way he's been playing?

In the Sac bee, he has admitted to pondering about what this year could mean for him, and that at times he feels like he snatches rebounds from his teammates and takes some forced shots. I have actually begun to notice this on the court, and which is why I ask you guys? Last year, he played within the offense 24/7. A consistent player who plays within himself. This year he's taken a lot more jumpshots and is more hesitant to pass the ball. That's just my opinion.

Now Mandry on the other hand, is nice.

I think its our deeper front court. He has to assert himself a bit more. I dont really notice anthing different, besides the fact that we give him a lot more iso plays which may put pressure on him to score.

Landry doesn't look to pass at all, unless he's resetting the offens with a guard on the perimeter. If he catches the ball within 18 ft, it's going up. He's passed up Cousins in the post numerous times already, and never looks for cutters, never swings the ball. Things is, I wouldn't mind so much if he was in the post, but he's doing this crap 18 ft from the basket.

As far as snatching rebounds from teammates goes. Isn't the problem he doesn't rebound enough?

Based on his own words, it sounds like FA is affecting his mental approach to the game. You'd think, though, that if a guy wanted to make big $ in FA he'd go out and play some D. His D has ranged from non-existant to mediocre, however. Doesn't make sense to me...I still think (and hope) that he won't be a King next year.

If this front office has any smarts at all, they will know by the trade deadline if they want him back next year. If they dont, they better trade him for something.

I hope we trade him. Dunno what for. A lot of playoff teams would love to have a guy like him off the bench though, so maybe we can snag a vet shooter or another youngster for him. If we trade him straight up I dont think we're getting much back, but its better than letting him walk this offseason, and waaaaaaaay better than resigning him (although a resign wouldnt surprise me, we all know how Petrie loves his offensively talented, non rebounding, midget PFs).

Landry as a throw-in or as part of a multiteam trade could get us something better. I'm hoping he's gone by the deadline personally. JT is probably the guy getting shipped out though. Because who wants a 6'11 rebounder when you have a 6'7 jumpshooter at PF?

Landry is a black hole on offense. he is a 6'7" PF that doesn't play defense and for the most part doesn't rebound well. he would never be a starter on a legit playoff team and will prolly demand a way higher salary that he's worth in this offseason. which means that we likely won't pay him. which means if we don't trade this poor defending offensive black hole who would be great off the bench but shouldn't be a starter we get nothing for him.

Of course. That is a given.

But I think that more than anything, his contract year is affecting mostly how the coaching staff is using him.

Landry is being show-cased as our legitimate starter at the PF when most of us knows it is not the best way to utilize him with the kind of roster we have. A lot of professional basketball thinkers say we are not going to the playoffs. We are a very young team and winning the Championship (or even just the playoffs) is out of the question anyways. So it looks like it does not harm the team if Westphal and Petrie show-case him a little bit this early.

Maybe they want to help him increase his worth for his personal gain or as trade chip?

Along the way of rebuilding, each games are not always about winning.

I have posted quotes in another thread but GP does see him as vital to the rebuild so i very much doubt we will see him traded. One can hope hes seen as a key role player in a title push seasons on much like Cisco is currently

I think there could be some truth to that. Jason Thompson might be another guy that is being played not only for what he does on the court, but also to showcase for a trade.
