Stories continue that Carmelo only will resign in NY which may force Denver's hand by the deadline.

Landry Fields is doing some interesting things as a starting SG shooting 52%, 10.3 PT with 7.6 rebounds. Denver needs to save 13M to get under the tax line. Potential to facilitate with our cap space and snag Fields?

Why for us:
Curry's remaining salary at the deadline should only be in the 4-5M range. With the 3M cash we'll only have to absorb 1M or so. Fields has size, shooting, is an excellent rebounder, and is the right age. Not a great 3Pt shooter though or facilitator.

Why for Den:
Not fair value but may have little choice. Receive 2 solid lotto picks and 1 future pick. Also get the monster trade exception and get below the tax line saving them over 20M this year alone. Clear out some middling vet contracts that they won't need if they go young. Trade Billups in a different trade and they can be players in FA as soon as this summer with substantial cap space.

Why for NY:
Get the prize in Carmelo obviously and vet depth in needed spots up front. Gallinari won't be missed with Carmelo in town.

heh...I'm bored today and half serious. Chances of this happening approach 0%. This is sort of like moving half the league around for Afflalo.

If persistent rumors are to be believed Denver and NY may be forced into dealing at the deadline however. Would we take a 1M cash hit and give up our unused cap space to get a look at Landry Fields? I would say yeah. Denver is supposedly wanting tax relief so that part is not out of the realm of possibility

so why would new york just give us curry and fields? it's not like we're sending them anything. and if they want to get rid of cap space, they might as well just send it denver's way.

NY doesn't have cap space to give Denver via an uneven trade. We do.

My main problem with this is, I don't think the Knicks need to nor will they give that much away.

Carmelo is the guy with the cards in his hands, and i'll disagree with anyone who says otherwise - cause he will get his money, and even if it's a little less, we've seen players leave money on the table this summer already, he will get huge endorsment deals in NY, and his wife job and work is in the city - not to mention NY is a hometown for him.

The absolute maximum deal I can see Denver getting from NY - and bare in mind that everyday that goes by the package Denver will get will have less and less value, is :

Curry, Anthony randolph, and one of Gallo/Wilson Chandler(and possibly Fields if Denver insist on him, but I doubt it).

They got no reason to trade anyone else from the Denver roster cause they don't need the extra salary... and as a Knicks fan I can tell you that sending Landry Fields away will be devestating to the team, and i'm sure the frontoffice knows it and won't make such a thing.

I have no dog in the Denver / NY negotiation but chances are decent that something happens there at the deadline. Point was mainly that if Denver really wants the space to get under the tax they need a 3rd team to swing Curry to that can give them major cap space. We have more than anyone. No one is going to take Curry for cap space without an asset attached.

As a side note: Knick fans also are absolutely insane with overvaluing their assets. All fan bases do it, but never do I see crazier valuations of players than I do with Knick fans.

But whichever value they'll deside Fields has I will agree with them, I love this guy and he's just an amazing glue player and a must in every team.
