Dog On It!
Well, government dollars subsidize private businesses all the time and have for ages. Business and industry loans, loans to growers and producers have been done my agency for decades.I guess so, but, one thing is the fact that that kind of commercial development is mostly private dollars. Am I completely wrong on this? What am I missing? What the city doesn't want to help pay for infrastructure around a project that will being hordes of people's entertainment dollar downtown (referring to a development of retail/restaurant/condos/giant movie theater/hotel/convention center)? Isn't that even sometimes paid for in part by the developer themselves? I guess if it's currently not developed, that's more of an investment for the city, but you'd think they'd do an economic impact study for something if we're already talking about an arena downtown... then calculate the tax revenue to be generated.
The percentage of subsidy varies. However, the raliyard is expected to take at least two decades to build out or more. And the city has already pledged provide 1 billion in subsidies over that time period. A lot of that will go to infrastructure, but there's federal money, redevelopment money, State money that can all be brought into the railyards. A lot has already been committed.
