LA Times: NBA Execs believe Kings will be in Sacramento next season

I guess so, but, one thing is the fact that that kind of commercial development is mostly private dollars. Am I completely wrong on this? What am I missing? What the city doesn't want to help pay for infrastructure around a project that will being hordes of people's entertainment dollar downtown (referring to a development of retail/restaurant/condos/giant movie theater/hotel/convention center)? Isn't that even sometimes paid for in part by the developer themselves? I guess if it's currently not developed, that's more of an investment for the city, but you'd think they'd do an economic impact study for something if we're already talking about an arena downtown... then calculate the tax revenue to be generated.
Well, government dollars subsidize private businesses all the time and have for ages. Business and industry loans, loans to growers and producers have been done my agency for decades.

The percentage of subsidy varies. However, the raliyard is expected to take at least two decades to build out or more. And the city has already pledged provide 1 billion in subsidies over that time period. A lot of that will go to infrastructure, but there's federal money, redevelopment money, State money that can all be brought into the railyards. A lot has already been committed.

I thought it was yolo's Max Rexroad.http://twitter.com/MattRexroad
He was fueding this weekend with fans, CarmichaelDave, and Napear on twitter. Erased the majority of his tweets monday morning. He's an ***hole though.

He's not an *******. An ******* wouldn't put something like this as thier twitter welcome message:

"Matt is a businessman that serves on
the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.
if you don't like what he writes then
just press unfollow. He won't miss you."

All that means nothing if we can't get all the counties together. Theres already one placer county sup tweeting that they will not contribute one public dollar to a sacramento arena. His tweet (name escapes me at this time) was retweeted by mark kreidler.

True, but the point still remains. Fortune 500 is nice but a completely arbitrary distinction. If you have 2 Fortune 500 companies but nothing else, does that make you any better than a region with a strong base of medium-sized businesses? Not saying we have that here, but Fortune 500 is not the end all be all of quantifying the business prowess of a region.

Fantastic news! Now try telling that to those that are part of the high unemployment rate and foreclosures in the central valley.

If you read what I wrote, you will see that I acknowledged hard economic times and the housing situation. It kinda strengthened my point......

Well If the NBA decides that the kings will not relocate. The maloofs may have egg on their face and with all their efforts to move just may sell then because I am not sure they want to come around anymore after basically it was Sacramento and fans vs. the Maloofs.

Good point, I was thinking about the reception they'd get if forced back here to Sacramento. I don't think they'll be inclined to sell, but I know one sure fire way they could get back in the good graces of Kings fans/Sacramentans while we're ironing out the arena deal: put a competitive team on the floor and spend some smart money on some free agents! You don't need to have a $100 million payroll to be competitive with the rest of the league, but when you have $30 million in cap space to work with, another top draft pick, and a very good core of kids on the team already...there's no reason that you shouldn't spend the money to field a competitive team to put butts back in the seats and sell out luxury boxes in a new arena. It's going to be a VERY interesting next few months, especially when Taylor/ICON comes back in a month with that feasibility study...stay tuned!
