KOZ Thank you thread

Wow Jim Koz was laid off, I feel bad for Koz. he was the reason I watched the pre game and post game shows. very down to earth guy. I wish him and his family the best of luck! He will be missed!

I always looked at Koz as the successor to Gary Gerlad's thrown whenever he retired or passed away. Koz has the same quirckyness about him, and has some hokey phrases just like the G man.

Damn shame that he was whacked.

wow...

that is truly shocking, and extremely shortsighted on the part of the organization. there is consistent talk of creating a well-balanced team of good character guys on the court, but that should extend to areas of the organization off the court, as well. having met jim kozimor once, i can say that he was one of the most friendly, big-hearted, and intelligent kings fans i've met. he loves the game. he loves the kings. you couldn't ask for a better tv/radio personality at his price...

not to mention koz has paid his dues. remember when he was just the goofy guy who did the stupid interviews on the concourse at halftime? i didn't think much of him then, but was glad to watch him climb the broadcasting ranks. his light sense of humor and critical stance endeared him to me in a way that, say, grant napear never could. grant is a classic defamer with an intensely pervasive new york attitude. jim kozimor is a sacramento man who always managed to create enough distance between himself and his organization to talk about kings basketball smartly...

thank you so much for your time with the kings, koz!! like so many who the fans have watched depart from the franchise--often unfairly and only to be sorely missed afterward--i can genuinely say that you offered something the kings needed...

He’s definitely not somebody I see taking the place of the G Man. The G-man is in his own level.

I wonder if Koz is going to head back to 1140 – since he’s not going to be on TV anymore.

I've met him and he's a really nice guy. I wish him luck.

I understand the need to layoff employee's in this tough economic period, but I can't come up with a logical explanation for letting Koz go. What a bad mo.ve. I will definately miss him. The Maloofs should have let Angela Tsia go, as she is a complete moron, or Mike Lamb. I don't always agree with Grant, but he is very knowledgable and can be entertaining to listen to. Grants show would be just fine without Lamb. And this is nothing against Lamb, but both he and Tsai should have gotten the axe before Koz. I would have thought that if anyone's jobs were safe, it would be Gary G, Grant, and Koz.

Well, best of luck Koz. You are far too talented to not land on your feet somewhere else in a good situation.

That's too bad...

Koz & Kayte developed some good chemistry as well as an interesting half/post-game show. Yeah, he was kind of an idiot, but he was likeable.

Also, Koz also seemed like an actual fan of the Kings & NBA, unlike current Maloof employees Angela Tsai & Grant Napear.

Seriously, ask Angela what an And 1 is...I bet she'll probably say it's a t-shirt she bought for her little brother.

Wow. I sure will miss him. Although I don't think he will be out of a job very long. I think he will get picked up somewhere soon. They let go the wrong person, should have been Angela Tsia.

I read somewhere that their doing away with House Party Live. I don't know if that means their replacing it with something else or what. Maybe the John Wiz halftime show. As far as Koz goes, maybe because I grew up back east and I'm used to more caustic anouncers, Koz was just more fluff than substance to me. Its just a matter of taste. Nothing personal in it, and I wish him well. I'm sure he'll land a new gig.

As far as being a sacramento boy, I thought he came from Houston before here. Maybe I just dreamed that.

I agree about Koz - really like him and his work and sad to see him go. I think there may have been better ways to trim some costs, but it isn't my decision.

Good luck Koz!

Seriously. I didn't really care for Koz for years but he grew into the position. Any replacement is going to have similar growing pains and some may never gain fan acceptance. I understand hard times are hard times but why not get rid of the people that are bad at their jobs first?

Koz is an amazing person and I wish that he would stay.

Why not get rid of Grant or Angela for him...

The G man is on his own level, because he's the only voice we've ever heard attached to the Kings on the Radio primarily. He's also classy.

Koz is another recognizable voice. He's covered the radio portion many times. Part of being an announcer is growing yourself into the position where your voice is a famiar one. It's comforting in a way. Koz has that.

I would have to disagree that Grant's who is fine by himself. It's very dry when it's just him. He also seems a little uncomfortable when he's by himself. He tends to rush things along, it doesn't seem smooth like normal.

Mike Lamb by himself isn't bad, but you miss the other perspective. Grant and Mike compliment themselves. While I think Grant is an pompous *** at times, togehter they compliment and contrast each other.

I've seen a lot of people comment on Angela. While I dont necessarily agree (although she's hot ;)) I'm guessing she makes significantly less than Koz. So Angela does not equal Koz when it comes to salary. They'd have to fire probably 3 Angela's or more to have it be equal.

Yeah, my guess is she comes cheap compared to Koz, but if they want to cut costs, I wouldn't cry if they cut her.

I believe that Lamb works only for KHTK and not MSE, so they can't fire someone else's employee. ;) Grant works for both.

I am sorry to see Koz go. I will miss him. He was a great Kings and Monarchs fan/supporter. Double whammy. :( I do however, wish him and his family all the best, where ever they go.

Fire her anyways...

Actually, I think Grant was much better by himself. He did the show for years without help. Mike tends to go on and on about things to the point I just want to turn off the radio. You either love Grant or you hate him. Personally, I'm one of those that likes him. I like a no nonsense type that calls out BS when he hears it. As I said before, its just a matter of taste.

I never cease to be fascinated by the psychology of sports: only in sports and politics are people so cavalier about other peoples' jobs and livelihoods...

Thanks for all the great insight, Koz. Part of my enjoyment of seeing the Kings in person back in the day was heading upstairs to the lounge for your after-game show. When they created HousePartyLive, I'm glad I was able to come down to the studio several times to enjoy the show. Having you stand in on the radio when Gary G. couldn't be around was also a big plus.

You will be missed. And, though it may not mean much to you right now, you will be remembered - for your humor, your wit, your camaraderie and your knowledge of the Kings and the game of basketball.

Good luck in all your future endeavors.
