Kirk Snyder to Houston...

The Rockets moved to fill their void in the backcourt on Friday with a deal to acquire shooting guard Kirk Snyder from the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.
The Rockets did not have to give up a player to add Snyder, sending cash and future draft considerations — likely no more than switching second-round draft positions — to the Hornets.

“Kirk is going to fit in very nicely on our roster,” Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said in a statement. “We were looking to get bigger at the guard position and Kirk brings not only size, but very good athletic ability and a defensive presence. He’s played in 136 games over the past two seasons and moved into a starter’s role around midseason last year.”
Snyder, the 16th pick of the 2004 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, played 68 games in each of his two NBA seasons, moving into the starting lineup with the Hornets last season. A 6-6, 225-pound shooting guard, Snyder, 23, averaged eight points on 45.3 percent shooting, playing 19.3 minutes per game last season, averaging 9.7 per game in his 45 games as a starter.

Interesting pick-up by the Rockets... I'd say this is a replacement and upgrade for Bogans, who they did extend an offer to, but the Rockets didn't match. I've been a supporter of Snyder since around he was drafted, never got to do much in Utah, and had 2 or 3 good stretches with Hornets., but had an inconsistent season overall. I like his potential as a versatile two-way wing player.. showed a bunch of that with the Hornets. Hopefully he gets a good oppurtunity to play in Houston like with the Hornets. Should fit into the Rockets defensive-style, and gives them needed youth and athleticism.

Wow, getting him for nothing is a pretty good deal. He started coming around last year for the Hornets.

Amusing really.

a) there was a story a few days ago about how bad Snyder looked during summer league, wiht Byron Scott basically taking a fairly significant shot at his play and implying he was going to lose his starter's job in Hornetland over bad SUMMER LEAGUE play. Which might have been a first.

b) The Hornets just got rid of Maj...er, however you spell his name, who obviously had a lousy year one, but could have helped fill the gap. Now they have managed to burn through all of their random young shaky talent at the spot in the space of two weeks -- Maj???, Snyder AND Smith. Unfortunately that leaves them with just Mason backed up by Bobby + they need some more bodies.

c) Meanwhile Houston just continues picking up random shaky talent after random shaky talent to throw into the big steaming dungheap that is their backcourt. Dung in, dung out.

Their back-court isn't too much much outside for T-Mac, indeed. Head had a decent season, Alston was quite a disappointment from what I've gathered, Wesley is Wesley. Snyder, I think will add to it, but still isn't that proven yet.

Hornets should try and re-sign Butler, and not let the Jazz or Nets get him.
