Need 1 More!! - KingsFans Official Fantasy Basketball 2007

The traditionally named KingsFans Official League is back again.

First dibs go to those who played last year. Second dibs go to anybody else who has played in the "KingsFans Official" fantasy basketball league before.

I'm pretty much commissioner because JSin wasn't available to do it last year and I assume this year as well. That means I have no authority and will just do what has been done in the past and make changes based on the group sentiment. So please let me know if you have preferences.

The current draft time is set for Sat Oct 27 4:15pm PDT. However, that is open to change if there are better times for everybody. Again please let me know your suggestions.

If you were in the league last year or in previous years, PM me and I'll get you all the information, including the league ID and password. Here are the settings (same as last year).

Ahem.

But by all means let's revitalize this thing. Last year was kind of a quiet year amongst all the Muss depression. Think we need a gimmick like last person in last place each week needs to buy everybody doughnuts or something. ;)

P.S. Good work on the history. Where did you get it from?

We started late last year as well, so there wasn't much time to get people involved. Hopefully a month will be enough this time.

Yahoo has the history thing set up so you can go back and look at all the leagues based on who was in the league with you. I added the ones commisioned by JSin. I was thinking of going back and PM'ing anybody who I still recognized to see if they wanted to come back. Both Mad D and JSin missed last year's league.

On the league overview it should have:

Standings | Schedule | Playoffs | All Time

Click "All Time" and you can click on each league to see the standings and playoff results. I still haven't figured out a way for people not in the league to see that information, even though I can see the leagues in 2001 and 2002 before I joined.

One former player contacted me a couple of days ago about this. He's back on the board under a new name. I sent him a link to this thread, so he might contact you here sooner or later.

P.S. one little note btw -- we were already kf by 2001. In fact we were kf when I first showed up on the board circa...2000 maybe? Jsin started the first one of these, and it might very well be the 2001 year. Remmeber he won the first year and was completely insufferable. You think I'm bad... :p

Yeah, wasn't sure about SacHoops versus KingsFans, I didn't join until 2003. The first league I found commisioned by JSin was called SacHoops League. Still recognize a lot of the names, though.

Perhaps drafting could be set up much as the NBA does it with the losers getting first choice and the perpetual winners getting later choices. Seems only fair. :) I am not being biased or anything although I think I qualify as a loser.

2001 was the first year and yes, KingsFans had been turned over to Jeremy by then.

I would love to make this a Keeper league. Yahoo doesn't do Keepers, though, at least I couldn't see any place to do that.

We would either have to switch to NBA.com (which has keepers) or some other site, or do all that work ourselves. If you don't want to have keeper players and just want to set the draft order, that isn't too hard. I think that should be done starting next year though (since I came in 2nd :p).

We were sachoops when I joined in August 2001.

;)

In the NFL, Yahoo has a keeper league under customized leagues. Or so I understand. I was invited to play in one so I assume it exists - perhaps done in an unofficial way. It's not so easy finding the rules spelled out clearly for your particular needs.

BTW, Brick, I plan on drafting Oden and Brand. How's your memory?

Dang, I'm getting old. I wouldn't argue with this but for some reason I remember the league as KingsFans. The reason I say that is that it is very unlikely I would have anything to do with Sachoops - not to be mean or anything - I just never took part in anything they did. It's easy enough to check.

..................

After checking: it was SacHoops.

For fun, here are the results for the 6 leagues I linked up to the history. In at least three of the years there were secondary leagues, and of course the bigdog and "Avis" leagues aren't here either.

The bigdog league has been around since 2004. The Avis league was formed last year to allow for the people who wanted to compete with other KF members another chance.

:)

It's always been weekly. Did it change last year?

Or maybe I'm just reading that wrong...

I think I'll play another year and continue my streak of bottom 3 finishes. Maybe I'll buy a fantasy NBA magazine or something and figure out what the heck I am doing.

Hmmm... I meant to copy the settings from last season, and I'm pretty sure that's what I clicked. But it looks like it copied settings from the other league I was in. It also didn't register my draft type selection the first time, so maybe there's a bug in the yahoo stuff.

I actually have no preference regarding daily or weekly. I'd prefer to get as many people to join as possible, especially those of you who've been playing for years. Does anybody have a preference for weekly?

I think I'll go look over the settings and update them to last year's, at least for now.

Please speak up everybody. If you don't post or send me a PM I'm just going to assume you have no preference like me.

I've advocated for Daily roster moves in the past, but the overwhelming consensus has been to keep it as weekly. Has that opinion changed? I'd prefer daily changes. Can we get a quick recap from everyone on their preference?

I strongly prefer weekly changes as it allows people to stray away from their computer for days at a time and I plan an early spring vacation out of the country.

I just went through a practice routine of setting up a league and this setting has to do with roster changes. Roster changes can be made daily and are effective the next day. In other words, I'm not thrilled. It IS daily and not weekly.

The only other time I played in KingsFans league was 2001 and we made changes weekly. I can understand the frustration of having a player injured on Mondays and no way to change him for a week but also some of us have a life away from the internet - might be difficult to believe. While daily is more "real," weekly changes cause no predictable disadvantage to anyone.

I'll be out of the country on a remote Philippines island with no internet for 2-3 weeks. Doing it weekly limits the competitive "hit" i will take by being gone.

(BTW, why can't I upload an animated avatar?) I'm not outside the size limits and I really need my eyes to function properly. I get an error message when trying to upload my animated version.)

I can respect that. And, if that's what the league regulars want, I'd like to withdraw my request for membership: I'm just too hands-on with my leagues, and I have too short an attention span (and I haven't gone a whole week without internet access since '98, even when I was on active duty) to be willing to work under those kinds of constraints.

Hope everybody else has fun, though. :)

The fact that it is currently set to Daily was an error, Yahoo (or I) imported the wrong settings. I just haven't changed it back yet because I was waiting to see what everybody thought. My guess is that we'll stick to weekly because that's how this league has done it in the past.

I've updated the first post and the league to include the settings that were originally supposed to be there. Changes will only be made if most of the people in the league want them or don't have a preference.

I just joined (thanks for the invite, uolj), and just to throw in my two cents, I definitely prefer daily roster changes in fantasy BBall leagues, but a weekly roster change format is just fine with me if that's what the commissioner and/or the greater share of team managers favor...
