Kings waive Caron Butler

You forgot to mention Duje Dukan as well. ;)

But yes, odd timing unless again Caron requested it so he could go chase money. Such a sharp sharp break now from last season you gotta trust the coaching staff completely, because its going to be a brand new lockerroom. Cuz and Omri may be the only survivors.

I just thought it was odd when he picked up his option in the first place. Could be he's looking for greener pastures could also be the office is trying to free up a couple spare million to make a lopsided trade work

Or roster spots ...................

With adding 4 FA and 4 Draft picks we would have been at 17 , so dukan saves a little cap
and butler could guess without any 2 for 1 trades he could be waived as 4th SF, so kings
accomidated Caron , maybe helps him get a min contr. Anyway gets us back to 15 bodies
before trades (yes I know no limit til reg season )

At this point, trust must be earned.
Indeed. But there is no choice here. It bothers me because it feels so reactionary, but for better or worse its going to be nearly 100% a new structure next year apparently, new philosophy, completely new lockerroom too. Its almost impossible to make any sort of principled prediction, and talentwise its not going to be overwhelmingly impressive. So all you can do is wait and see and trust that there is a vision for all this. Because its not just the big pieces now. We've also gone out of our way now to dump and jettison the little guys around the edges like Butler or Curry who could have provided low level continuity. Instead its a complete takeover/doover, at least if we go forward with Rudy/Ben/Kosta trades.

So I can guess how its supposed to work, but no way to know how it will at all. Just gotta trust that the F.O. and especially the coach thinks he knows the answer.

totally reactionary given caron just picked up his option.

taking a soft stace you could argue that we owned it to him after the farce of last year to keep him and move forward together but hey this is a business.

My concern is that now cutting Caron, letting rondo walk - there isnt anyone beyond coach DJ that you could argue could pull Demarcus into line - i dont subscribe to that whole demarcus needs a keeper or its only a matter of time before he loses his mind but i do feel we need strong vets around. Barnes could potentially fill that void but hey, im not sure thats his thing.

Butler showed last season what a consummate pro he was and is.

So maybe Gay is staying afterall, Kings just got Barnes to be a vet presence, that Boogie trusts, and Kings accomodated Caron's desire to look for playing time around the league, while some roster spots/PT are still out there.

With Omri (21.2min and 27.2min the last 2 years) and Barnes (ranging from 25.7min to 29.9min the last 4 years), there really isn't much for anybody else.

I think it's pretty simple. Caron opted in, hoping that a new staff and system would mean a bigger role for him and since he's not likely to get more than the vet minimum anywhere, it meant he didn't have to pack up and move.

Then after the Kings signed a few wings, he saw the number crunch and was let go and/or asked to be let go so he could catch on elsewhere.

The Kings don't gain any caproom or save any money by waiving him (I don't think) and there are no roster size constraints until the deadline in the preseason.

Hopefully he lands a spot somewhere. Sort of a raw deal here, a guy who has been around as long as is supposed to have a bit more clarity in how his last job is going to be.

Sure, but if he clears waivers and then signs, we're still on the hook for his contract? Like Seth... there is nothing to be gained by doing it this early in the offseason unless there's a team waiting to pick him up before he clears.
