It has nothing to do with luck. GP wanted yet another filler that would make little difference, and that desire to add a backup PG cost the kings the opportunity to have Blair right now.

To be fair, Blair and Brockman are the same height AND Brockman came with the added bonus of ACLs.

theres no way blairs knees are going to hold up for long.. the dudes like 300 pounds and has no cartilage in them? im surprised hes made it this far this season.

im glad we got brockness.

My point was if he were taller, although he far exceeded my expectations and I'm happy with that, nothing has to do with Blair

one point game at halftime, not bad... sergio is playing well, martin decided to score a few points, tyreke is back... so far so good. though as everyone has mentioned, blair...

It's always easy to criticize after the fact. No one thought Blair would fall that far.

Here's why that doesn't matter one bit:

Regardless of whether Blair was out of the picture, we all know that in the grand scheme, acquiring these types of players (fillers like Sergio, Mason, etc) makes NO difference. I like Sergio, but the fact remains that this team is a lottery team, and he's the 3rd string PG on it, and his contract is up after this season. So even if Blair was not there to be chosen, GP still could have had his Brockman and everything would be the same. But because he just had to make another move, the team lost out on the chance to pick Blair.

The ONLY way this move has any relevance is if Sergio (who is still only 23) is re-signed to a long term deal and is made the primary backup to Evans OR is a part of a trade for a relevant impact player.

Also, we needed help at the pg position.

The kings were targeting Evans from the start. They knew, like everybody else, that at the 4th spot, they had no hope of getting Blake. That left a bunch of guards to choose from. Acquiring another PG was not a priority.

No on ethought Beno would show up and play like a different man.

It doesn't matter, because even if Beno sucked it up this season, the team IS STILL GOING TO THE LOTTERY. It makes NO difference whether Sergio is part of this team. Making a deal to acquire him for one season means nothing.

No gm would have banked on Blair dropping into the 2nd round.

Again, it doesn't matter, because I'm talking about GP's mentality of making deals to add players that make no difference. This attitude COST the team opportunities that actually matter.

I have no problem with Brockman. I like what he brings, and it's needed for this team. But Brockman could still have been picked without the Sergio deal.

But then people would be complaining about reaching for Brockman with the 31st pick.

i like the shot distrubtion tonight. everyones getting a good amount of shots and converting. we just gotta get some stops here.

It's only reaching if he's chosen way above where he should be while leaving better players on the board. If he's the best there, it doesn't matter. But I would have liked the Kings to get every opportunity in the DRAFT for GP to work his magic, because that's where he's the best.

If thats how you feel, thats how you feel. Personally, when that trade went down on draft night, I liked it. We needed help at that position. I also think Petire would have traded Beno last summer if he had the chance.

Afterwards, yes, I would have wanted Blair. But I didn't think he would fall that far. Most didn't. Looking back on it I understand your fustration, but the probability of getting someone who can contribute in the 2nd round is not very good. We were lucky to get Brockman. We would have been even luckier to have Blair fall to us. I don't blame Petire, SA just lucked out.

For the last 2+ weeks Hawes has looked really good offensivelly. He's still got a long way to go on the glass and on D, but he's wayyyy better than he looked earlier in the season. He's leapfrogged JT for me when it comes to our future and who to keep.

It doesn't matter what you feel or I feel about Sergio. The end result is that making a deal for a rental reserve made ZERO difference. Your feeling doesn't change that fact.

This has nothing to do with hindsight and everything to do with foresight. Before the draft, this move wasn't going to make a difference.

Again, let's remove Blair from this. The team knew these things before this deal went down:

-Beno was inconsistent, but still had a significant contract. The Kings were coming off a 17 win season, so with the #4 pick, they were going to be giving their lottery star plenty of playing time in the backcourt. They also knew that with Beno's deal, it would be hard to move him if he wasn't going to improve. Thus, they knew they had a starting and reserve PG ALREADY LOCKED UP before this trade went down.

-They were going to use a #4 pick on a guard. A pick of Curry, or Jenngings, or Evans was still going to mean a guy was going to either start over, or back up Beno.

-Sergio could opt out and be a free agent after the season.

Those three things are enough to tell you and anybody else that trading FOR serg was going to make ZERO difference for this team. But that attitude of acquiring short term fillers (that is a consistent approach with GP, and not an isolated thing) actually matters with it costing the kings something in the long run.
