not necessarily true. he forced Carmelo to get his butt in the pain and post up way more than he ever did

If Cousins really wants to, so can he. can't put it all on Karl
Put it "all" on Karl?

Did you miss where I said "mainly"?

And a system is a system. If the system calls for Cuz to be on the block or off the elbow, that's where he'll be. If folks can't see the connection between handing the ball over to Rondo in a dribble drive offense and Cuz hugging the perimeter, I can't help.

That doesn't excuse Cuz for hanging out on the perimeter as much as he does. It is however a byproduct of a systematic failure.

I don't like cousins out high. Let me say that first, BUT the offense is flowing nicely and cousins down low is h
There when we need it. We have seen that for 5 years. having said that if I were coach I would use it to my advantage in changing the offense during games to put cousins down low. Change it up don't let the other team get comfortable in guarding you. If you get a team guessing as little as 3-4 possessions in a game that could make a difference how many games did we lose by 3-5 points last year?
Exactly we are still winning games and the offense flows great. It doesn't turn into a "throw cuz the ball in the post and watch him pound the ball" his stats might be as nice but the offense is looking just fine

And again, another huge red flag is Cuz with more 3 attempts than assists.

Has 12 3pt attempts this preseason, where he's 1-12 btw and a 3 total assists all preseason.

It's staring everyone right in their face. Too much perimeter crap and the low assists, a career low by far pace, a product of the offense not being run thru him.

The fact that we barely won this game with their entire rotation out hurts a tiny bit...:
Tyreke
Asik
Gordon
Pondexter
Cole
Babbit
Ajinca

At least it's nice to see Collison finish out much stronger. Casspi looks like he had a good game

When this strategy fails...and it will fail, I wonder how many games in the season it will be before it's too late to realize your two best players belong in the post.

We might see a career low FG% from Boogie this season at this rate

What I mostly see is the bench coming in and providing offense in the games and our two new big men protecting the painted area

Chubbs....watching box score....watching Anderson's stat line....waiting...waiting..to make that post :)
Almost.

Actually I rechecked the box score cause an alert said Anderson scored 20 thinking I was going to have to read nothing but Jamss should start posts for the next week.

'Twas a different Anderson. The Ryan version.

Descriptions of James Anderson as a solid veteran consistent player are pure fantasy.

I honestly don't really care about Cousins usage as long as we win games. Defintely don't want him shooting so many threes though. He's just not good at it

He's really good at the long mid range and longer two's out to about 20 feet. He's one of the guys who needs to say "forget analytics, a long two is a better shot for me than a three"

Amazing how we went 4-1 in preseason yet everybody here is second guessing Karl, DMC, etc. Let's play a few in the regular season before we get too negative...

No actually its not.

The bench is looking fine. That's confusing people and disguising the mess with the starting crew. There have been multiple preseason games where our starting lineup is getting jumped on. In this one again the starting 5 have negative +/-s and shoot a combined 17-45, .377 FG%. Last game Cuz was here it was 15-38, .395 FG%.

I agree it was a great preseason over past years. However, I too am having a hard time adjusting to DMC’s new style of play (he was just so dominant under Karl at last season’s end!)

I am hoping the preseason discussion between Karl and DMC was something along the line of “OK big fella, play like you want to play all you want during the preseason and get it out of your system.” “However, once the season starts we agree you will play to your strengths.”

On another note, I am just happy we made it through preseason without any serious injuries (the news of Lebron needing an injection for his back, and Bogut possibly facing surgery among what seems like a ton of other teams decimated by injuries so soon is alarming). We seem to have survived preseason intact and for the most part our guys really looked in great condition.

Can’t wait for the season to start!

I can't be bothered to do the legwork on this, but I do wonder how many times a team's bench has outscored its starters for a whole season, and made the playoffs?

I meant to say his stats might not look as nice

Antoine Walker's stats never looked nice.

Cuz shot .391 in the preseason. That mark included a 1-12 from 3pt land.

In addition Ben shot .278 for 6.2ppg

With Rondo and WCS roleplayers averaging 5.7pts (.500) and 5.8pts (.538) the entire weight of the starter's offense would fall upon Rudy.

Meanwhile, Malone has the Nuggets playing some mean D.

I know, I know..... it's preseason.

I just know Cuz was playing like Wilt towards the end of last season, so I dunno what the **** is happening with our offense thus far.

Still holding out hope this is all just experimentation, or getting the guys used to schemes that won't be heavily relied upon.

I guess we'll just have to see what happens when the season starts. If we win 50 games with Cousins shooting 39% from the field, then who cares.

Side note, Derrick Thrilliams averaged 17 points on 59% shooting and 47% from 3.

How did Cuz get 13 FTA in 24 minutes if he hung out at the perimeter all game? That's an absurd FT rate and there's absolutely nothing wrong with him scoring 19 on 13 shots.

We still really haven't seen what the rotations are going to look like. None of our starters have really gone past 30 MPG this preseason; I imagine that will change once real games come around.

This was my first Kings game and I got to watch it at Rupp Arena. Wow. What a dream come true for me. One thing I noticed about watching the game tonight was that Collison was much better than Rondo at getting to the rim and scoring in isolation. Rondo was masterful at coming into the game and moving everyone around in screens, cuts, and curls. When Collison was out there everyone seemed to spread out and stand still.

Alonzo Gee played great defense on Belinelli and made life miserable for Marco. Davis got hot at the start of the game when guarded by Kosta. Davis cooled off when Kosta decided to respect his outside shooting.

Probably the most interesting thing for me in this game was what happened on bench and not the game itself. Every time there was a stoppage of play and the team went to the sidelines, all of the coaches except Nancy huddled together and the players plus Nancy huddle together. Rondo would hold the chalkboard and draw up plays while Nancy looked over his shoulder. Rondo would be pointing at people and then pointing to the chalkboard. Then at some point all the coaches would come over and Karl would sit down, look at the chalkboard, erase nothing and write nothing and say very little until the buzzer sounded off and the team got back on the court. It is apparent to me, that at least for that game, Karl completely put the game in Rondo's hands to sink or swim. To be fair, I was not directly behind the bench and could not hear what was going on.

If Carmichael Dave or someone else was at the game or heard from players, it would be interesting to find out what was going on there.

That entirely depends if we would have won 55 with him being used correctly.

This preseason our superior W/L record is almost entirely due to our strong bench play. there is no benefit to Cuz shooting 39%. Doesn;t help him. Doesn't help us. hasn't helped anybody in preseason unless you want to claim Rudy. Certainly hasn't helped Ben. If it were helping WCS or Rondo with their 5ppg that would be absolutely 100% not worth it.

Didn't Karl let Cousins play in the post after he took over last year? It would seem strange that a coach with a successful track record as Karl would throw that out the window.

Perhaps Karl is just giving Cousins more leeway on offense because it's Cousins' idea to operate more on the perimeter.
