[Game] Kings @ Trailblazers 12/26/12

Disappointed with Trob tonight. I don't care if Trob makes stupid rookie mistakes, but this lack of effort/disinterested behavior he's had tonight is really concerning. You can teach the rookie who flies up and down the court and gives 110% on every play. Trob won't be successful if he doesn't play with the effort that got him drafted 5th

Does it remind you of Cousins?

This team just sucks the life out of young players. Watching Hickson be incredibly productive this season is proof of that after we got rid of him for "not working". We sure as hell could use a 12-10 big this season

Smart needs to give coach Self at Kansas a call to find out what turned on the switch. I don't recognize Robinson.

No. Cousins is a head case; Robinson isn't.

The description of how they play is similar. I take it you didn't see the video of TRob where he barely could look at the camera. He didn't have a clue what was expected of him and looked far from happy. I don't understand your answer as to how they appear on the court.

Which makes it even worse if hes not a headcase and putting in barley any effort

Not necessarily. Sometimes new guys think too much.

Now Cousins doesn't think nearly enough. If he doesn't get his act together, maybe he'll think on the third or fourth team he's on.

No kidding.

BTW, I think at this moment TRob is as much a headcase as Cousins but demonstrates it in a different manner. There isn't simply one way to be a headcase. The video I watched made him look as down and confused as anyone I have seen in a long time.

Yeah he does think to much on offense thats why he travels nearly on every possesion, but for a guy who is new to the L, a top 5 draft pick and no mental issues to speak of, to not be putting effort in is almost unheard of and a lot of the other guys drafted play on bad teams and put in monster effort when they are out there.

I don't either. I saw close to 20 Kansas games last season and Robinson was an absolute force on both ends. At Kansas, he would fly all over the court and showcase several strong offensive moves from the elbow and a nice 15 foot jumper. Defensively, while not a shotblocker, he was a top 5 post defender in the nation(have stats to back this up if anyone really cares. He never really had a post game, but I never thought for a second he could not develop one with his work ethic. I don't buy that his struggles are from the size/strength difference either. I think he's just an incredibly confused rookie right now who's struggling with how to adapt his skills to the NBA. As of now, we just need to keep baptizing him by fire and let him work through these troubles. The absolute worst thing we could do is start to limit his minutes

There is no truer statement in this entire thread, maybe entire forum currently.

Anybody hear Jerry or Grant make the excuse tonight that the team didn't have Tyreke or Cousins and that they would be coming to the rescue? Normally, that's the party line. I didn't hear it all night.

Robinson needs to keep playing consistent minutes. We drafted him 5th, our team sucks and we want/need him to be a part of our future. I do believe his head isn't in the right place right now.

Try going from one of the best college teams/cities in any sport to a team that is literally falling to pieces. Low attendance, a dumb coach, a franchise player going off the deep end, uninvested owners, etc, etc etc.

That's a tough situation for any rookie.

you can tell cousins' talent has a place in the league....robinson, not so much

How soon we forget how bad Cousins really was his rookie year. He showcased his talent for sure, but he also got plenty of opportunity to do so. Trob is a young player who has no idea what his role is (lack of coaching), plays for the most dysfunctional team in the NBA, and gets limited minutes. That doesn't excuse his lack of effort at times this season, but I'm not at all surprised by the results we've seen out of him thus far

In a sense. Put rookie Cousins in the role Trob is in now. Do you really think we'd be talking about Cousins as our next franchise player?

He never be in that role because hes simply far to talented or he would have demanded a trade

Because they are about to be traded for spare parts and we are gonna watch them become dominant players for other teams that recognize and develop that elite talent that both possess while the Sacramento Kings decide to market Isaiah Thomas for MVP and Jimmer Fredette for MIP and Thomas Robinson for rookie of the year.

Hogwash. Trob was every bit of college player that Cousins was and flat out dominated College basketball last season. Trob looks like a player who hasn't been coached on what his role needs to be with the team. I absolutely refuse to believe that last year's top college rebounder, top 5 defensive big, and showcased Amare-esq offensive abilities, suddenly forgot how to play basketball. He's not being used correctly and he's not getting the minutes to work through his mistakes. Dangerous combination for a young player

Yeah in college he was fantastic but he struggled when he came up against NBA type length and size in the college game, Cousins skill and size translate far better to the NBA game than TRob's do and the reailty is while TRob can be a solid player hes look lost in the Summer League where he was the #2 guy getting mins as well so I have no idea whats wrong with him.

Summer league means squat. It's guard driven and it's chalk full of players trying to inflate their own stats. Not to mention, the "teams" play together for a week or so before games.

Trob should be used the same way Amare and BG are used offensively; in PnR situations where their athleticism and quickness are put on display. He ran PnR's beautifully at Kansas and he made his living in those situations as well as getting to the line 6 times a game. Unfortunately (another failure on our FO and coaching) our team is incapable of running PnR's

Our coach is incapable of implementing a pick and roll offense. These guys are proffessional ball players. They can run PnR's in their sleep.

i recall smart being asked about it after practice around the time we saw evans and cousins run it to success in the beginning of the season, he mostly rambled but said something along the lines of him not liking high pick and rolls for some reason, i think thats why we almost never see it in our half court offense.

Once everybody on the parade route has figured out the emperor has no clothes, it's kind of hard for the commentator to talk about the bright colors.

TRob has not even shown flashes of the talent of any of the guys you keep trying to associate him with. Not even flashes. Which is scary. In fact its getting worrisome that he is more like a Wesley Johnson -- older rookie and flashy athlete who suddenly blows up in his final college year and gets drafted way way too high because of it.

BTW, Jimmer was every bit the college player that Derrick Rose or Kyrie Irving was as well. Its not enough. For some guys it does not translate.

The slow-motion train wreck continues. How many more games like this do we have to watch before somebody in charge realizes that this roster does not fit together? I'm kindof glad that both Cousins and Tyreke are not playing right now because when they play well it masks many of these problems. Like for instance, aside from Chuck Hayes nobody on this team seems to know where anyone else is going to be on any offensive set. How is that even possible two months into the season? I'm surprised now if Marcus Thornton does not shoot the ball within 3 seconds of it touching his hands. On paper we have not just a good but a dominant rebounding team and yet we stand there or face the wrong way and let other players pull rebounds off our heads. And Aaron Brooks seems to trip himself driving to the basket more often than he makes it there standing up. If there is such a thing as "less than the sum of it's parts" that's this team to a tee.

There is a rumor/fact that there is a squabble between the Maloofs and Petrie. I know the first thing that comes to people's minds are Tyreke and Cousins but I'll bet that Petrie wants a new coach and wants to clear up the pg problem by trading IT and/or Fredette who are two darlings of the Maloofs. I think it is more clear that the Maloofs are shackling Petrie in order to sell tickets not realizing the winning sells a lot of tickets. That's my guess.

The difference is Jimmer doesn't have an ounce of the athleticism that Rose or Irving have so it was fairly easy to predict he wouldn't have the same success in the NAB as he did in college. Trob's measurables were virtually identical to BG's at the combine.

Trob needs 25+ minutes a game. BG, Davis, Amare, Duncan, and every successful rookie/big who has star capability werethrown to the wolves from day 1 and given a fairly significant role on the team. Even Wes Johnson got 2 full years as a starter and 25+ minutes a game to showcase his talent. He busted obviously, but at least Minny found out what they really had with him.

I'm just sick and tired of how much this team screws up the development of our young players. Even Jimmer, who everyone left for dead last season, has been amongst the most effective shooters/scorers in the NBA this season and he only gets 13 MPG. Mark Price reincarnated might be sitting on our bench right now and we're not letting him play because of Aaron Brooks. You can give up on Trob if you want, but I'll wait and see Trob given a real opportunity to play before I throw him out to pasture. He has far too much potential and he showed way too much talent at Kansas to give up on him way too soon.
