Kings trade Tyrese and Buddy for Sabonis and Holiday and Lamb

The Lakers are stuck with Russ. I mean who is going to take that on? They can't ship picks until 2027. Russ isn't going to bring fans into an arena. That was their mistake and they are going to own it for a long time (Well two more years?)

i have an idea. Hold onto haliburton, not tell fox that he’s not getting traded and put him out there. If a deal comes up, cool. If not, cool, you continue sucking and get a high draft pick. NOT SELLOUT FOR THE LAME A$$ PLAY-IN. Maybe for the first time ever, try to build a playoff team THE RIGHT WAY. Naaaah, just get rid of the kid that might have been the only exciting thing on this team for a guy who will walk in 2 years.

Amick basically confirming the obvious: Kings wanted to trade Fox, but his value was shot, so they had to trade Hali to get Sabonis. Desperation. Shoulda just tanked, Monte.

I just think it’s impossible to build enough shooting AND defense around Fox/Sabonis. Not even using hyperbole, like literally impossible I mean unless they sign 2 superstars. They have basically set themselves up where they have to have two ELITE shooters And defenders at the forward spot and even then I don’t see this team as anything more than a .500 team.

I mean no offense but you really believe the answer to the defensive question marks is having this lineup which you insinuated -

PG - Fox
SG - Mitchell
SF - xxx
PF - Washington
C - Sabonis

Honestly you can put Kevin Freakin Durant at the 3 spot and that team won’t be a contender. Would have no paint protection and teams would just pack the paint and focus on Durant. That’s a common theme. Literally need two more valuable players at the forwards spots in my opinion to compensate for lack of shooting / defense the core provide.

Mitchell does play the D that Fox doesn't so in that respect he's complementary. The question for me is whether the Mitchell/Fox combination is going to produce enough assists, and that depends in part on the offensive design, which in turn goes to coaching. Also, is Mitchell a good enough outside shooter to complement Fox? It's something to watch going forward.

What cliches did I use? How much more specific can I possibly be. I pointed out the roster fit is terrible, and shooting & defending the paint - literally the 2 most important things in basketball - are severely lacking. Nothing cliche about that. It’s specifics.

I don't understand why fans are operating under the assumption that this move signals "selling out for the play-in." It may result in that this season, but Domantas Sabonis is not a 32-year-old all-star on the backend of his prime, nor did the Kings have to sacrifice future draft capital in order to acquire him. Sabonis is 25. Fox is 24. It's clearly a step forward in attempting to build a long-term contender, and that rarely happens overnight.

Now, I have no problem entertaining arguments over the plausibility of actually constructing a contender around Sabonis/Fox. Personally, it strikes me as a longshot. But it's not everyday you snag a legitimate all-star with extraordinarily strong advanced impact statistics without having to give up more than a single long-term asset. It's not a desperation move for an over-the-hill talent at the expense of future flexibility in order to achieve a play-in berth.

Even better, what happens when Sabonis operates from the high post, passes the ball to Fox on the perimeter and he refuses to shoot it, because he’s already bricked four threes?

Because Monte won’t be here next year if the Kings do not make the play in and the Kings end up with the tenth pick. This is a win now move.

Sabonis ceased being an all-star level player the Kings traded for him. Meanwhile Tyrese went from "Better than Cole Anthony I guess" to "The next superstar"

This trade might have been as much about getting rid of Buddy's salary than choosing between Fox/Hali. No idea if Indy insisted on Hali, but if Monte had a choice, trading Fox would have meant keeping Buddy on the roster, or else salaries wouldn't have worked. This allowed getting out of Buddy's salary too, but I still hate losing Hali. Thought he could be not only our best player, but the leader the team needs.

Lol. He’s had exactly one chance to show that he was the franchise cornerstone at age 21 and he put up 17 and 9 and shot 43% from 3. What exactly do you need to see? Also I’m not advocating to build around him as the franchise cornerstone. But he’s the ideal piece you want to have going forward during a rebuild. Sabonis isn’t. I’ll gladly eat crow going forward if things come together but giving up on Haliburton so soon when he’s showed what he’s showed is insane to me. There were so many avenues toward success that we may have f****d here.
