correct - I'm talking about emotional attachment and the fact that we picked a guy later in the draft who was miles above many guys picked before him. We also held onto him long enough that we got little in return. I think we maxed the return we'd get on Hali, even if we still have glaring problems all over the roster. Sad not to build around him but he was a foundational piece not the tree topper. or whatever.he wasn't comparing their games. I see exactly what he was saying and it does have the same feeling as Kevin Martin.
OK. I get it. We had too many PGs and needed an upgrade at center. Would have preferred trading Fox, but getting rid of Buddy's contract is a plus. I am going to really miss Tyrese. Will be interesting to see how he can fit in with Duarte. I will give it some time to see if there are any more trades and how these players fit together. Unfortunately you have to give up talent to get talent. Monte has shown he can draft good players. Hope he can keep it up.
At least we still have an unprotected 2022 FRP to trade for Jerami Grant . . .
Honestly, I'm not sure what's next. I continue to like a Holmes for PJ Washington and change deal.
Barnes and Bagley should still be dealt.
But right now the only definite pieces are Fox and Sabonis. Who are you going to put around them Monte?
I said I'd wait until the trade deadline passes until I decide whether or not to give up on this franchise completely, but seeing Hali in the photoshopped Pacer uniform is making it very hard not to check out right now.
My hot take: they’ll keep Sabonis and Fox out for “injuries” and tank the season and keep their pick and shoot for the number one pick
c'mon, it was pretty clear this is the first move not the last. he had a few good deals go sour which surely would have made other moves feasible. You have to believe that at least one of Holmes or Barnes is gone. It's possible (probable) that we move both and it may not be in the order you like either. Also Monte just traded his first ever draft pick for a move that may not be resoundingly popular. To me that shows he has more cojones than anyone since Petrie. I hope we get to see him work out his vision. If it's terrible we at least deserve to see if play out with another pick, a coach, and a few more trades.
I think you plug in Davion at the other guard slot. My guess is a big part of making this deal is they believe that Mitchell starting full-time can give you similar impact that you got from Hali (in different ways obviously). PJ would obviously be a huge get and I think a flawless fit with Sabonis and Fox with his spacing and defense. Holiday and Lamb are actually good players and reasonable fixes in the short-term to plug in at the wing spot. I kind of hope we take advantage of the Lamb expiring though and flip him.
I'm not sure what wing fix you can get for Barnes, but I still wouldn't rule out some "future" assets for him to help restock after losing Hali.
Should be a very interesting vibe walking into the arena tonight depending how many of us actually show up.. as I wear my Haliburton’s jerseywould not cry if they did.
Barnes at the 4 and Sabonis at 5 is layup city. And I'm not talking on our end.Well you really can’t trade Barnes at the moment because you absolutely have to play him at the 4 or you have zero shooters who shoot over 40% from 3. While we have depth at the wing we are a bit undersized.
the only other move I can see is trading Holmes. You are pretty much rolling with a Fox Mitchell backcourt which by itself is puzzling as neither are shooters and both want to penetrate.
I get that we’re all upset about Tyrese but Sabonis is absolutely an all-star. Maybe he won’t get into the game here because of the KANGZ tax but he is absolutely an all-star level player.Everyone keeps talking about Sabonis being an All-Star. He was in the East. Does anyone REALLY think Sabonis is an All-Star in the Western Conference??
Who knows. He probably isn't an all-star in Sacramento as long as our drought continues though.Everyone keeps talking about Sabonis being an All-Star. He was in the East. Does anyone REALLY think Sabonis is an All-Star in the Western Conference??
Has me blocked too. Dude is....weird.dave has me blocked. i ruffle feathers sometimes.

This trade is seriously way better than the Blazers trades for both sides though. The Blazers gave away their borderline all-star for a pick and Josh Hart. We traded our stud young guard for an actual all-star while keeping all our picks.Anyone else blaming @Tetsujin for this trade for making fun of the Blazers?
Seriously though, Haliburton was the fee to get off Buddy. That's how this trade rings for me, and thats a though pill to swallow.

well starting our #2 overall for the remainder of his contract sounds like an option if we don't trade him.yeah well what other options do you have. This roster fits as poorly as you can possibly make it.
Except the Bulls pieces fit well as Vuc could stretch the floor and open up driving lanes. In this case Fox has struggled because our lack of shooting leaves no room for him to drive. So we trade away our two best shooters and the guard who could play pick and roll with Sabonis???
Monte legit builds a team like he is assembling a fantasy roster. His ability as a GM is as poor as Vlade but bad for different reasons. Very few understand the fit of what we have done.
that "best creator" has created 20 winsI want to cry. We did nothing in this to address defensive issues and moved the best creator on the team for the wrong pacer's big. If there are 2 good things that came of this, 1 is they got a legit top flight big for a medium high performing player without giving up draft capital AND 2 they broke up buddy's contract. Mitchell would have been better to send, but who knows, maybe if mitchell's shot continues to improve, it wont be horrible fit next to fox.
That said, I think it could be salvageable as long as this is not the last move Monte makes. You need to address spacing big time. Moving Holmes now is very important. Flipping him for a piece like PJ Washington/Ish Smith/2 second rounders, OG Anunoby and Filler (by sending Holmes, Bagley and FRP), John Collins for Holmes and Lamb and FRP/2 Seconds, or Jeremi Grant (by sending Holmes/Lamb and a first). There are other moves to make. It is not the worst I could have imagined, but a huge blow to the gut none the less.
We did want Monte to make a big splash...well this is a big splash. Fingers crossed Fox finds a jumper.
He's averaged 19, 12 and 5 over the last three years. He does have some weaknesses on the defensive end, but lets not talk about Sabonis as some patsy scrub that somehow made a random all start game as a replacement player.Everyone keeps talking about Sabonis being an All-Star. He was in the East. Does anyone REALLY think Sabonis is an All-Star in the Western Conference??
