If Barnes and Huerter are sitting there in crunch time the same amount of money is still sitting there. The difference is at least the 40 million guy can run your offense as a primary offensive threat. As for Monk, that's one of those things that the Kings should have some sort of knowledge about or at least opinion of already. Right now here's what we do know, Monk has started a total of ZERO games as a Kings player and less than 10 percent of all games he's ever played with literally almost all of them coming in his 1 season with the Lakers. I mean that could change at some point but if he's betting on next season being his chance then he must know something Mike Brown doesn't know. At this point it's looking more and more like if Monk starts it's because something isn't working, not because of what Monk is doing. Is there a team that will give Monk a starting role and the situation he has in Sac right now? Perhaps, perhaps not. But that's going to happen with or without any deals going down. As it is Monk is finding his footing for the first time in the precise role the Kings have given him.

To me the only scary thing about LaVine is the foot. But if it's that bad the trade wouldn't go through anyway.

We actually don't know if he made an offer or not on Beal, just inquired right? And man, what a disaster that's been. And it's not like Lavine is any less injury prone, especially as he heads into his late 20's/early 30's seasons.

My hot take of Monk being 90% Lavine/Beal really isn't all that hot anymore. He's just straight up been better this season. He's just not the answer, i don't care if he's "free". Which is not really free because it'll cost 2 starters and our 6MOY in FA.

Starting might not be a requirement, but if we shed Monk of his role? Yeah, I don't think he'd like that at all. He comes off the bench, but he runs the 2nd unit and basically has the full green light to "be him" when he's in the game. And it's been awesome because he's developed as an elite passer/shot-maker.

Shams reported it, so it's as good as true even if it's not but, Beal pretty much flat out came out and said he was considering the Kings but figured they were too young or some excuse. The article and quotes are somewhere on this board. Which honestly was kind of a punk move because at least until then Monte had plausible deniability, lol.

Monk being 90% of LaVine is possibly true if used a certain way but not a guarantee. You can look at Monks splits as a King and they are all over the map. LaVine has been pretty consistent for his career. Although Monk is a bencher so it's tougher for him for sure. Monk is on one right now but it's always a question of sustainability. Here are his splits from last season:

He's pretty boom or bust which is probably why he's such an impactful 6th man. If you're the Kings you don't want to change that. Him as the bench punch is one of those things that's working very well.

Could not disagree more.

He's a volatile player, sure, but when everything he does screams "GIVE ME MORE MINUTES"... you should probably give him more minutes. Thankfully, Brown has pretty much figured out that 25-26 is his absolute floor he should be getting on a nightly basis.

Him being a bencher his whole career doesn't matter. A very consistent upward trend the last 3 years of getting much better is what I care about. And now he's showing he can sustain this elite level of production with a bigger minutes load. He's backing up his incredible playoffs with basically the same level of offensive production.

I'd rather he start, but I also see the benefit of staggering him with Fox and Domas with the 2nd unit. But he certainly is a 28+ MPG player on a nightly basis. That much is clear.

Which sort of makes the Keon Ellis development very interesting. In his best case scenario (Like a Danny Green type?), is an awesome compliment to Fox and Domas while infusing the starters with another awesome wing defender. We've seen in stretches how good him and Keegan can be together on the floor. But that's also a guy where you can be flexible Keon positonally (anywhere at the 1-3), which gives you the ability to play everyone the minutes they need.

that and the 4 playoff games played in 10 seasons. Some of that is bad luck or poor timing but I’d imagine that’s among the lowest playoff games played for a 2 time all star. It’s possible that he is a bit of a big numbers on bad team type.

OK but first it was he won't re-sign because he's got a 40 million dollar starter in front of him? What about LaVine guarantees that his minutes would be cut into? Long term the same issues exist, either that starting SG can play with Monk and Fox or not, whether that goes by the name Huerter or LaVine.

And Monks incredible playoffs were exactly that level of volatility, overall he shot 40% from 2 and 33% from 3. Some games were to the moon, some were not so high.

Maybe the plan is for Monk to slide right into the starting role, maybe not. Right now the evidence and history doesn't suggest that and that's pure fact.

Eh, again, people used the same excuse about Fox. Would I advocate for LaVine to be this teams number 1 guy and build around? Heck no. A solid number 2/3 sounds pretty good if you're basically giving up pieces most around here seem to want to simply cast off every other game, haha.

The contract is what it is, no doubt. Much better than Beal though! lol. In the end, that money is mostly still sitting on the books and goes by the names Huerter and Barnes. One guy out of those 3 is an all star level talent though.
 
Guys does those middle season transfer do the job on NBA?
Normally in Europe sports (especially soccer) transfer at the middle of the season aren’t giving the wanted result

We would be a small team without Barnes or a replacement wing of his stature. It's an easy no for me that money is reserved for Monk.

@iowamcnabb - nailed the request. It's laughable, though. There is no way Lauri is worth that. He'd be a great 3rd star on a contender that had defensive-minded players around him. If somehow the Clippers could trade for him, he'd fit perfect there. He'd be scary on the other LA team too. But they don't have the assets for that. As good as he is offensively, he is as bad or worse defensively.

This is why I still feel the trade we did keeping Fox vs. Hali was the right one, we have seen what happens when the star is a defensive seive. I'm not sure you can ever build a winner around that.

When you talk 5 picks they typically include swaps I'd probably be willing to do 26 and 28 plus 3 swaps, Davion plus matching salaries. They're more likely to want enders than Barnes.

I'm curious if teams are after Sasha.

Something we have to consider too is the last year of Lavine's contract is the first year of Fox's new extension. And the first year of Keegan's extension off his rookie deal. Can we afford Lavine at 48mil, Domas at 45 mil, Fox at what... probably 55 mil and Keegan at 30ish mil? Is that even possible in the new CBA?

You do it if you know for sure that Lavine would you put us in title contention the next 2 years. But he's not even better than Malik Monk, much less having to trade half the rotation to get him as well as likely lose Monk in FA this off-season.
 
I’m of the mindset that Keegan should slot into HB’s spot on the court and we should start feeding him the ball more often. I also think that what we need is a better compliment for Sabonis in the front court. Someone that can pick and pop, rebound, and play defense pretty well. An efficient role playing big. I think we are too undersized especially come playoff time and we need to get bigger. Keegan would be a big SF and he’s mobile enough to cover for his size, Domas is not a huge center but most of the time it’s not a problem. We just need someone to slot into that 4 spot. I do realize that this is typically a highly coveted type of player, but you gotta pay to play sometimes.

A lot of us really liked Jarred Vanderbilt before the Lakers swooped in and poached him from the Jazz for a fairly low price. The two issues with him have always been that he struggles to stay healthy (he's currently injured) and that he still doesn't hit open shots well enough to keep the defense from sagging way off him and disrupting the offensive spacing.

I wanted him on the Kings so badly!!!! Just needs to be able to hit that corner 3. I also would have been cool with Rui. It’s really hard to find an Aaron Gordon type of player.

I have no idea what they're doing with Vandy, but they're utterly wasting him. Not in the rotation there, but gave him a 4/48 extension in the off-season? Just the absolute worst spot he can be in too, with how slow they play and the lack of shooting on that team.

He remains the perfect addition for this roster. I think you nailed it; he's the big version of Keon Ellis. Would be no problem flexing him with Sasha and Lyles off the bench and would add the size/rebounding to really make that unit shine.

Would they do Davion+2nd for Vandy? Especially if Vandy isn't in there plans going forward?
