what does lottery protected 2024 pick mean?
Looks like 2025 and 2026 is top 12 and top10?

Curious if we at this point try to extend Barnes or look to move him for more pieces. Either he stays and either Monk or Huerter come off the bench, or Barnes is moved for more pieces (or even a future FRP to replace the asset we just gave up). I’d rather not risk letting Barnes leave next off season for nothing.Yeah, I had personally sorta given up on a Huerter/wing trade after the Monk signing. Never did I think we’d somehow end up with both guys.
It means that we keep the pick if:what does lottery protected 2024 pick mean?

He's a fine enough team defender, but certainly nothing close to a stopper on defense. Slightly below-average probably?
What he is elite at is shooting and he's an excellent secondary creator/ball-handler. It's a pretty similar pick-up to Monk in a lot of ways where he'll be an awesome fit with Fox/Sabonis and gives more passing/ball-handling.
I love he's locked up long-term, going to be 24 by season's start and directly on the timeline of everyone else in the core. Murray, Huerter, Monk is a HELL of an offensive upgrade to what we had last season.
What about
Fox Mitchell
Monk TD
Huerter Barnes
Keegan Lyles
Sabonis Len
I always wondered about experimenting with Barnes in the second unit. That would be a strong bench
So unless there is a Barnes upgrade, or a Holmes trade, I think our 9 man rotation would be something like:
PG: Fox (34), Mitchell (14)
SG: Huerter (12), Monk (24) Mitchell (12)
SF: Barnes (16), Huerter (20), Davis (12)
PF: Murray (32), Barnes (16)
C Sabonis (34) Holmes (14)
You end up with Fox and Sabonis at 34, Barnes, Huerter, and Murray at 32, Mitchell at 26, Monk at 24, Holmes at 14, and Davis at 12. Lyles/Metu is the 10th man if you want to open the rotation a bit more on certain nights. Then you have Len and Queta, and some young wings/two way guys to develop.
I know Davis isn't really a 3, but I think we are going to start Huerter at the 2, so some of Hueter's minutes have to be allocated at the 2.. But you have a lot of interchangeable pieces, and really other than Fox, Sabonis, Holmes, and Murray, you have everyone playing multiple positions.
I imagine he'll start because of the slightly below-averageness that's he starting in comparison to Monk's "pretty bad".
Also, I'm not sure Monk's in the clear on being considered a good player yet. For all we know, this could be a contract year situation. Much more comfortable with him as a backup.
Yeah the defense is going to be pretty horrendous. Think we over paid for Huerter.I'd rather not. Barnes is still clearly our third best player and I think Huerter can play some SF, I'm tired of the out-of-position SF.
And that starting unit is pretty sieve-y, even by Kings standards.
Murry wont be getting 32 mins. More like 24.
If the picks dont convey we have much bigger issues to worry about.Yeah the defense is going to be pretty horrendous. Think we over paid for Huerter.

oh boy, we’ve said this before…
If you’re able to pick a player as good as Huerter with that future FRP in the teens, then thats a win. Not sure how little you think they should have paid, but Harkless and Holiday are nothings to me.Yeah the defense is going to be pretty horrendous. Think we over paid for Huerter.
Go look at players minutes as rookies, it's rare they get over 30 mpg.I think you are wrong, but the beauty of the roster is that there is a lot of flexibility. If you play Murray 24 instead of 32, then give Barnes 8 more minutes at the 4 and 8 less at the 3, and then free up a few more minutes for Huerter at the 3, which gives more minutes to Monk/Davis/Mitchell at the 2. Instead of having a bunch of stubby 1/2s and a bunch of large 4/5s, we now actually have wings that can play multiple positions.
Wasn’t that an unprotected first and an unprotected swap? That’s extremely different.I was thinking the same thing. That was the logic behind the Philly cap clearing trade. "By the time we have to trade those picks we will be so good it won't matter..." Hoping for better returns this time...
To be fair, it wasn’t trading the picks that was the problem. It was the pick swap.I was thinking the same thing. That was the logic behind the Philly cap clearing trade. "By the time we have to trade those picks we will be so good it won't matter..." Hoping for better returns this time...
